ChemEng's Account talk...

Thought F would be safe from today...

Now not sure what the move should be. Lock in losses and move to G? Buy the big swing?

Too many options here...

Not to mention Barnake speaks at 11. Who knows whatll happen there?

I'm in the Frog pond also. I would like to see the big swing so I could buy back in. I probably need to go to the lilly pad for a few days and wait. I dont know. 50 min to decide. GL

The training was surprisingly (and refreshingly) relevant. Most of the training I go to is just a check the block with absolutely no application to what I do. Of course LSS is just repackaging of many tools and techniques that have been available for decades, the concepts and applications to service industry was very insightful so far.

Ive still got 3 more weeks to go spread across 3 months, but Im looking forward to it. Hopefully will emerge with a black belt on the other end.

Good luck with getting your black belt. We have had the LSS here for a while, starting to run out of steam though. There are only so many process you can improve. Same techniques, just different name.

Exactly. It still looks good on the resume none-the-less. And there are very few times in my line of government work when you can put $$$ amounts to the amount of savings created. Win-Win for me. :)

(It is a bit of salesmanship also. My program is going to create $300k savings per year. So that means you can reduce our budget by $300k right? No. The savings are Class 2 and Class 3 savings which dont effect the budget at all.)

Also, there are jobs opening up now that require Black Belt certification on USAJOBS. So there may be greater applications of it as a discriminator in the future. Who knows?

I had a nice article from TWSJ listing various graduate programs but I mailed it on to Kirkuk. They do exist but it is very new and there are not that many.

Im going to be in training all week, so Im going to keep my 50G/50F for awhile longer until my schedule gets back to normal.

Good luck everyone!

What a difference a week makes!

The week of Black Belt training was insightful, although not as readily applicable as the previous week's training. Im hoping that the 3rd week will shift focus back more towards service sector instead of production industries. Only 2 weeks until that week of training. Goodness Ill be glad when this is done. With any luck (and lots of elbow grease), Ill leave it with a brand new shiny Black Belt. :)

Dissappointed to see my standing slide into 2nd decile. But that tends to happen when you still in CP mode while others are making gains. I think next training Ill stick to a stock allocation like I should have done this time. Part of me is a control freak that likes to have my finger on the button, when I cant be there I tend to go overly safe.

Regardless, theres plenty of calendar left in the year to get back up there. Thunder5 Im gunning for you! ;)

I meant to get in today. Just forgot to make the move. :/

Man am I out of the swing of things!

Oh well, would have jumped to C today.

I suppose if I were going to make the mistake, I would much rather it be while Im sitting in G instead of elsewhere though...

*note to self--wife's prenatal visits are bad for my TSP account*

But hearing the little bugger's heartbeat for the first time is worth it. :)

Although I think I would have bitten today and made the stock jump thinking it would find some support during the day. It doesnt look like thats happened yet so maybe her prenatal visit is a good thing after all.

I'm a believer in " everything happens for a reason". Sure wish i was in the G today. You are in a good position to get back in for the pop. Congratulatons on the new addition. Use the savings for the college fund. GL

Goodness did I misjudge the direction of the dollar on Friday! It looked like it was ready for a nice drop or decline at least. But now it looks to do nothing but going up. :/ Oh well, I think Ill give it another day. :)

:) i am with you 50C 50 S i hope we find some relief:) G L CHEMENG

Who knows. I agree with 350z about tomorrow not being a day to be in I. So Im going to take the small chance of a +FV today and get out. Just my luck tomorrow will be the big drop in DX that Ive been looking for.

Who knows? :)

<climbs on soapbox>

This is just a warning to other government employees. This is nothing more than my experience. Hopefully employee's in other commands will not have this issue...

At about 1400 yesterday afternoon, my computer gave me the message that I had lost my connection to the local area network. I went down to inform the IT staff of the issue. They told me that there wasnt any network outages and that everyone was "up" on the network. I told them that I was certainly not on the network and after about 10-15 minutes, he was able to confirm that that was indeed that case. His guidance was to go back to my office and he would help me shortly.

5 minutes later he and another gentleman come into my office claiming that they need to confiscate my computer and my personal thumb drive that was attached to a lanyard worn around my neck. (As a point of reference, the computer is a completely unclassified machine.) I was told that my computer had tripped their IDS--Intrusion Detection System. This surprised me because all the work I was doing was on the level so I queried further about what would set off IDS.

I was again surprised to find out that a FAT32 formatted thumb drive would trigger their IDS. Of course as I am being told this, he also mentions that my personal thumb drive is now property of the US Government.

I asked about what the next action is and he told me "hes looking into it." I then asked who initiates the next action in this process me or him. He responded with the definitive "a little bit of both." At that point they both left. That was Tuesday afternoon and I have not heard back from them since then. I tried to make contact several times today but the IT office has been absolutely empty.

I dont know what the next step is. Im sure it will involve some lengthy amount of training and other corrective action. But this experience was full of unprofessionalism. To make matters even more interesting, there is no feedback loop for a customer (myself) to comment on the quality of service from our IT staff. So it looks like my opportunities to voice my experience will be limited as well.

So if you read this, consider yourself forewarned of the dangers of using a personal thumb drive on government machine.

We use them all the time at the FAA.
