ChemEng's Account talk...

This makes my day-to-day, mundane problems nonexistent.

Agreed. I was just glad to see a mainstream media outlet give an honest opinion like that. Kudos to them!

I was thinking the PPI/core PPI announcements were going to be big this week, but I missed Friday. Friday is Quadruple witching AND GM is releasing their 2006 Annual Report (along with the rumored $1B in writeoffs). Its still a few days out, but anyone figured out how to play this monster?

F is looking better and better play for this week...

I think the price of gas will eventually put the brakes on the market for a bit...just don't know when. The Subprime mortgage market will come back and bite us....just don't know when. I think the big fund managers and brokerage firms are upbeat on the economy but everyone else must be nervous. Any bad news will give the average investor an excuse to bail in a big way......maybe friday?

I bought C today and I'm back out tomorrow. Hit it and quit it.:D

I went back a couple of years and reviewed the triple witching week....I wasn't impressed much and the market went down on that Friday.....we have even more reason not to expect much this week....

It ain't worth the risk...just sit aside and watch the fun.....

ChemEng.........Thanks for the Bryan Anderson story.

This young Man has an incredible attitude with life. He will no doubt live a full life for sure.

Thanks again

Well see tomorrow! At the bell, the only move I debated was to move all in F. (Right now Im 50g/50f.) I choose to make the classic mistake (again!) and let it ride from my lillypad with just the tips of my toes in the action. The good news is that Ive worn a rut in the lillypad and its getting a bit more comfortable.

I have a sneaking suspicion that the rest of the week--Thursday and Friday in particular--will show that the bottom of this beast hasnt come yet. Last week's week-long dead cat bounce was just the bull-trap setting the bait in good...

Moving all into G from 50G/50F. Stocks are still sorting themselve out and Im sure that will continue for the rest of the week. I dont forsee the F going up anymore this week. And the smart guys who track G fund are predicting Thursday as the penny payout. Instead of rolling the dice on F again, went for the penny.

I'm going for the G penny to. See ya on the lilly pad.

I want to jump back into stocks today, but I want to see what happens this afternoon (and tomorrow morning). before I make the move. There could be some strong hawkish words used that bring the USM to a short halt and dip. If that does happen, then it will set up a buying opportunity for tomorrow or Thursday. If it doesnt happen, then I will be much more confident in the trend the market is trying to head.

Got to keep reminding myself its not a race but a iron-man marathon.

I dont know if anyone is interested in this, but I thought Id share it anyways. Theres been a strong push for stronger passwords here at Knox and I assume everywhere else. I know where they are coming from as passwords are a strong link in the network protection chain.

The problem came when all the different organizations that I had accounts with started implementing the new requirements at different times and with different cycle times. I lost track of which password went where almost immediately afterwards.

I even tried to do variations of passwords to make it even more simple. But would loose track of which variation for which site and my account would get locked again due to exceeding the number of unsuccessful login attempts.

So I put together a spreadsheet that generates random passwords that are DOD CSC-STD-002-85 compliant. The idea is that I store all my work related passwords in this excel and then reference the spreadsheet when I needed a password. Its worked so far...

Heres the details:
1. When you open the spreadsheet, make sure to enable macros.
2. Press the "New Password!" button until you find a password you like.
3. Press the "Copy It!" button to copy and store the password.
4. Put in the website that the password is for.
5. Make sure to save the file when you close it as the passwords are intentionally "strong".

Cool? Not? Something I could improve on with it? (I know this isnt directly related to TSP performance. But given the theft from the TSP accounts last month, I thought there may be value in sharing it.)

This site isn't ALL about TSP. Good post. Do you somehow password protect your passwords spreadsheet? ;) I've got the same problem. Been using a notebook with keywords to help me remember my passwords. The passwords are not in the notebook just keywords for me to remember which password I use where. Where possible I use the same standard password. One work relate, one personal related. On a similar thought, I have one file which is a jpg that has a password saved, on my computer. That password gets me into a password protected program on my computer. I use that in case I have trouble on the road. I figure a jpg file would not be where someone would look for that type thing.

Chem... I'm in the same boat here at NSWC Crane, IN. There are even some places I need a 15 character password!!! It's mind boggling to try to remember all of them, much less creating new ones every 60 days. Thanks for the PW generator. I KNOW it will help me.... Best of luck with your TSP!!!! :toung:

Don't take this the wrong way ChemEng, but I personally would be very cautious about using a macro enabled spreadsheet to store passwords unless I wrote/reviewed the macros myself. :suspicious:

No hard feelings at all. You can always choose not to enable the macro then review the VBA yourself to double check if you arent certain. I leave that part of the code unprotected deliberately for this reason.

Looks like I might take a dent today... Just hoping not to run into a -FV situation. USMs are dropping pretty sharply. Hopefully they will go flat this afternoon... *holds breath*

So todays debate is whether to stay in F or move into G for the penny.

Not sure where to go with this... Debating a 50/50 split right now.

Anyone else contemplating this move?

I am going for the penny (hope its tomorrow), and wait out the FED minutes tomorrow. Perhaps Alcoa after hours could be a plus. But, we are seeing many signs of toppiness, so it may be time to slow down.

Yes, I was thinking the same thing. The only problem is that I have the penny paying tonight, with a slight chance for tomorrow. If my memory serves me right, the market did great on the FOMC announcement. The F fund made 2 cents that day.
