Now that I have accepted a role as a moderator, it is my responsibility to try and nip the flame wars in the bud. However, I am not opposed to members of the board calling a statement into question either. I definitely do not want to stifle constructive criticism or discussions.
The “14%” comment, once again raise’s the most common and difficult question of ethics, that we deal with on the board. Which is: is an unsupportable statement deception/lying? There is no litmus test for what constitutes deception, unless it can be proved to be deception. Also, there is the question of intent.
Any statement made on the board falls into the categories of 1) fact, 2) opinion, 3) unsupportable statement, 4) lying/deception. The line between the later two can be thin and is matter of opinion, both the opinion of the moderators and members.
We get many new members here who start out by telling us how great they are and they kick around some big numbers. I am willing to have little latitude under those circumstances, because they are new and they may not realize how seriously we all take the board, and since they are new, they will not likely find themselves engaged in a flame war. But this latitude is limited.
Tech, you have been sufficiently called on this one – let it go and don't try and defend it – I figured out how to delete/edit posts.
