burrocrat's Account Talk

volatity is good for traders.

i am thinking of getting in tomorrow if it it looks like another hard close down by the deadline. but i am in the field with an appointment at 1.5 hrs before i would have to place the order and will not be done by then and likely out of cell phone data reception range anyhow.

i will get about a 20 minute window after the open to decide whether or not to pull the trigger and let the chips fall where they may.

ark update: it has been a long week, and the market's been busy too.

admin note: whipsaw is joining the ark as hawk, because of the swoop in and out to grab a morsel thing. the whole shebang was overstocked with squatters not swoopers so in a volatile market it was less than ideally informative. also there was exactly 12 denizens but what if a mutiny ocurred? it could end in a tie vote so now we got an even baker's dozen, 13, and can form a quorum.

another admin note: amoeba is now hare instead of tortiose, that turtle thing wasn't appropriate.

bookkeeping note: el vira (the volatility indicator risk assessment) is expressed as a distance from nuetral by percentage, with 1 lo - 5 middle -10 hi as relative to each's personal level of risk. after that it all gets aggregated and divided and multiplied and stuffed into the grinder for some magic arithmetic sausage making investment result. don't ask. it's complicated. but 13x5=65 so that is nuetral.

ark update cont.: it ocurred to me awhile back that frequency of trades relative to individual level of risk tolerance might be something to keep an eye on. so this week's sausage recipe follows this format:

username/familiar, vira, ytd%, allocation, #ift's yts, reputation. anyways, i wonder if there is a correlation between trigger happy and retire in style?

reputation note: 1-5=timid, 6-10=active, 11-15=popular. along with the occassional anominally/outlier/crazy/freak/whathaveyou.

ark update cont. cont.: this week we track the investingly active.

alevin/mouse, 5, 0.20%, g, 6, active.
amoeba/hare, 3, 1.19%, f, 29, slut.
birchtree/elephant, 5, 2.97%, mix, 0, virgin.
bmnevue/penguin, 1, 10.04%, g, 7, active.
boghie/lion, 5, 3.08%, mix, 3, timid.
burrocrat/donkey, 1, 4.76%, g, 12, popular.
fwm/racoon, 10, (-7.71%), mix, 10, active.
jonfresno/kangarooo, 3, 2.63%, g, 2, timid.
jpcavin/cougar, 5, 3.21%, mix, 3, timid.
jth/wolf, 1, 7.97%, f, 12, popular.
mrbowl/owl, 10, (-1.81), s, 4, timid.
pessoptimist/squirrel, 5, 3.53%, mix, 1, timid.
whipsaw/hawk, 1, 2.06%, f, 8, active.

el vira = 55-65 = -10/65, = -15%.

buckle up them chastity belts buttercups, and stay out.

also there is lots of interesting monthly happenings and i'd love to tell about it, but i'm more of a short term thinker, when i bother to think at all.

Burro,

Got a movie to go to, and this stuff is still kinda manual. With little fact checking and less time here goes the Risk/Reward Swimsuit Guide:

ArkAnalysis_20140801.jpg

Gotta get some over the shoulder training by JTH to get the spreadsheet online.

Some quick points, congrats to Burro for breaking into the Top Quintile YTD. Here the @ss bray. Louder please, the denizens of the Ark need encouragement... Also note that there are now three folks running cooler than normal. To me, this feels like a market ready to cool off. Final note, it looks as if ContrarianJeff is amongst the living. His AT record was removed and later reestablished. That means he is being his contrarian self. He isn't cool, he is cold on the slab and has been so for quite some time. He is, however, someone to watch.

Finally, I'll include the two newbies in an update when I get time. Whipsaw will kinda mess with the stats because he started whipping himself at the end of 2013. I have no idea of his risk sleep factor.

thanks bog's, this thread was seriously lacking on the technical analysis since you been gone. the only thing i don't understand about your chart is how come po/brazilian isn't lumped in with the thongs? you can't wear a thong without a brazilian. well, you can, but nobody would want to see that.

they're hot and spicy and only cost $2 for one bag. as opposed to the gum they sell in the coin machine in the bathroom which costs 2 bags for $1. and don't bother wasting your money on those, it tastes like rubber.
