burrocrat's Account Talk

burros-ark update: whew, what a volatile week. despite the fear out there, mouse pushes a third of her chips in the pot while chameleon takes his off the table and turtle shuffles the deck again. that was a strange week with all the tech glitches, gamed foreign markets, and the little people standing in line for money the bankers don't want to give. this is a tricky situation because the last thing the bankers want is liquidation, then they quit getting paid interest. they don't really care how large the principal balance grows, they only care that you can service the debt, that is their bread and butter. in fact the bigger the debt, the bigger the hook they got in you and the longer they can collect more interest. they don't even care if you earn enough to pay interest because you can always cut back on expenses to make the payments (austerity). however, i don't believe greece has been brought sufficiently to heel. you just don't thumb your noses at these folks and expect them to cut another check. sure there has been some minor inconvieniences and dramatic images of folks standing in line for their daily pittance, but no major upheaval and 'put the fear of god in them' stuff. so i don't think this is over, the insolent welfare jerks have yet to learn their lesson. my hat is off to anyone with exposure to this market. interestingly, those who held their position, either long or short, ended the week pretty much within 1/10th of a percent from where they started. hmmmm.

burros-ark signal: sell. el vira is at 2% and exposure at 47%. why sell? that is basically neutral readings, why not hold? because the money is not where the mouth is. the system indicates a desire to be in, but the position strength does not follow through. this is not over yet, in fact i think it's just beginning. sell.

Based on Ocean's update of the Tracker, it looks like many TSPers went back in (at least partially) on Friday. It would be nice to have some good news but right now it's a crap shoot and could go either way in a big way.

Yep, it could, which is why I put a measurable amount in but left far greater amount out. If things go south, I'll get out of the riptide pretty fast.

i've been asked for a "who's who" of burros-ark so here it is:

alevin-mouse
turtle-amoeba
bmnevue-penguin
boghie-lion
donkey-burrocrat
jonfresno-kangaroo
jpcavin-cougar
jth-wolf
mrbowl-owl
pessoptimist-squirrel
ravensfan-blackbird
usercuz-chameleon
whipsaw-hawk

these are the 'indicator species' whose trades i watch to determine the health and state of the tsptalk investing ecosystem.

Thanks Burro!!! That's a versatile group with a wide range of allocations and returns. Seems I've got some catching up to do as I am the only member in the red.

Glad to be on board the ark!!!:D

well, i am very pleased with the system's exit yesterday at 8.93% ytd. now it can cruise out july in g fund and walk having already made september money ahead of schedule. i don't even care if it skyrockets over the next couple of weeks because that just sets up a bigger august crash when more ift's will be available. retirement investing isn't a sprint, it's a marathon.

at first i was worried that the reduction of personal control and the limits of the weekly "only on monday's" trades were a disadvantage, but it seems to be working out in the system's favor having reduced my personal impatience and volatility as an influence.

on the other hand, my personal burrocrat account is sucking hind teat. but still, i'm pulling 5.45% ytd and that ain't so bad. a little behind my goal of 1% per month on average, but like my old high school girlfriend, it's still doable. the system seems to have moderated my hair trigger personal trading habits as i am aware also being a member of the ark has some negative feedback loop implications. if i trade at whim then it can negatively affect the ark as a whole. and if i follow the ark system, of which i am one of the indicators, then it quicky degenerates into a 'i moved so the system signal changed which affects other arkers moves so i moved again which changes the signal' type thing. after about a few more degrees of kevin bacon separation down that line of thinking i start to get dizzy.

in any event, rockin the gains! aawww yeah! that's what i'm talkin bout.

Burro,
something to consider... your analysis, market interpretation and subsequent IFTs are an input signal to the system (just like the rest of us), and a driver of the overall system signal. Try to separate your moves from the system or you will get into this do loop you describe (like sending your Dad back in time to knock up your Mom to make sure you get born... ala Terminator). As for me, I missed the last buy signal but am now back in allignment, but want to buy in... so do I follow the Ark or make a play for a percent or two? No matter, I'm sytmied at the moment over China, Greece, PR, Iran, oil, etc... ( I was on the right track, now I'm just sitting there and getting run over). Also, possibly track Ark member moves to an IFT threshold that will provide a signal at any given time vice Mondays only. Just some ideas from a fellow Arker.

burros-ark update: crazy times, the eurozone is going to give the greeks another pot to pee in even though everybody knows they will never be able to afford to empty it, china magically stemmed their market hemoraging, muslim terrorist attack/murders on military facilities, and presidential candidates continuing their games of lying about destroying official records, hiding where their money comes from, and ticking off special interest groups. probably the most interesting thing to me this past week was the season premier of 'naked and afraid xl'. there is just something comforting to me about running around in nothing but your skin with a bunch of strangers and trying to work together and survive. it reminds me of the markets. everybody that moved this week got out, with the exception of turtle who is trickling back in the 1% way. it is summer and travel season but most arkers appear content to sit at home in the g fund, maybe some are busy planning their routes for a week-long quick jaunt a bit later this year.

Mine's more dumb luck, though I'm kicking myself for not catching the I fund when it dipped about 10% from where I got out back in June. Went against my gut, stayed out and lost out. Now it's resisting the urge to chase the market. I was July's bitch last year so I'm hesitant to get in, but a lot of the data coming across seems to be good for the economy. I'm not sure being out during the last half of the year is a smart move.

Kudos to the ark system, you got something there that's beating the C fund, and that ain't too shabby...

burros-ark signal: hold. el vira is at -5% and exposure is 37%, a slight improvment from last week's extreme readings so maybe this thing is turning around. hold. the ark is out of trades for july so it can't get back in either way, and there is no compelling evidence to convince anyone with a trade left to take this bait. by the same token, there is no reason if you are in, to sell now either unless you think the world will end next week and if so selling ain't gonna make the end of the world go any smoother anyways. hold.

good luck buttercups.

burros-ark signal: hold. el vira is at -5% and exposure is 37%, a slight improvment from last week's extreme readings so maybe this thing is turning around. hold. the ark is out of trades for july so it can't get back in either way, and there is no compelling evidence to convince anyone with a trade left to take this bait. by the same token, there is no reason if you are in, to sell now either unless you think the world will end next week and if so selling ain't gonna make the end of the world go any smoother anyways. hold.

good luck buttercups.

Catch a falling knife and put it in my pocket, never let it fade away... Went in Friday when it looked like the S funds was stabilizing, then the bottom dropped out. I might have made a putz move going "full monty balls in deep" getting the boys lopped off....

Hoping for a bounce, even just a half percent, but it looks like I may be July's bitch two years in a row.

Good luck fellow arkers!
