Ask Lucy: Practical Advice for the Modern Man

Lucy, where would be the best place to store chargers and USB cables for a device? With the device or wrapped up and stashed away in any place the unsightly things can be hidden?

Any suggestions about getting some one to remember where the unsightly items were stored also appreciated.

Thank you MFL (My Fair Lady)

From my perspective...

1) Men should not wear shorts period! Especially if their their stomach exceeds the girth of their waist (too heavy up top is a flop)

2) Shorts should not be worn if the legs have not received at least 1 hour of sunlight a week (white is not right)

3) Shorts should be no shorter than 2" above the knees, unless you are an Active Duty Marine (if you can't wear underwear, don't wear)

4) Hair on the legs should not exceed .75" in length and should be uniform in nature (no strays allowed, you'll poke your eye out)

5) Shorts should be black, blue, brown, or tan and the belt must match (no match, no snatch)

JTH, You forgot these two and I think it is a real fashion no-no.

6) No black knee socks with shorts. Actually no knee socks at all.

7) No sandals shall be worn with any kind of knee sock especially black.

Nasa,

Pretty good advice, coming from a Yankee ! :D

Growing up in FL, we could always spot the tourists...they were either :

1. The people actually IN the water between October and April ; or

2. The people wearing socks (ANY color !) with sandals or flip-flops (as we called 'em)

It was usually both :) That "rule-of-thumb" still pretty much holds true, down here in "The Sunshine State" :)

Lucy,

A friend of mine has gone out with a friend of his ex-girlfriend a couple of times. Should my friend tell his friend that he has gone out with is ex or just keep it to himself? To add more drama - my friend's friend cheated on his ex-girlfriend.

This will not end well, I'd get a better set of friends...

If I understand your question, you want to be able to:

1. Avoid an eye sore.
2. Make them easily accessible and not spend all they looking for a missing cord.

My personal preference is to label the cords with some nifty ElastiNote tags from Staples
http://www.staples.com/Martha-Stewart-Home-Office-with-Avery-Small-ElastiNote-Tags-Blue-Flourish-1/product_368021 Or put the cords in individually labeled ZIPLOCK bags.

Either method (labels or ZIPLOCK bags) can then be put in a shoe/sweater box and stored in a closet or cabinet. For easier access, they can be stored in a pretty hat/storage box in plain sight on a table or book shelf.

Viva, you forgot the time of life, very important. There may actually be a syndrome called PPMS the first P being permanent.

A lot of these devices don’t get used at all between trips which means 1 year plus for me.
I don’t so much care about eye sores as being able to find the damn cables. Most of the cables are labeled. Much of the stuff is in zip lock bags. Cables never seem to end up in the same bag as the device. Bags get put in attractive boxes, drawers or unused luggage. Sometimes the luggage gets given away. Sometimes the attractive boxes become unsightly. Sometimes the drawers get cleaned out. The unanswered question is

What's the real problem here PO? You sound a bit frustrated. I think a nice vacation away from current surroundings may be in order. ;-)

Depends on the question, the woman, and the time of the month! :D

dude, you're pretty much gonna hang on this one all by yourself. but i'll add some nuggets of wisdom i learned the hard way.

it's like the sun coming up in the east every day. everybody knows it's true and predictable, hell you can even set your moon clock by it, but they don't like being told the obvious.

a vietnam vet friend of my dad's, and a friend of mine for almost 20 years now, said it straight to me one time. i had just moved to a small town where it's best to just keep your head down and your mouth shut and i met this wonderful gal. she had just divorced her husband and really liked to screw. alot. after 3 months of heavenly bliss and hopes and dreams, it turned out she wasn't really divorced, she just didn't feel like going home for a while. so after getting used and abused, chewed up and spit out, and finally kicked to the curb (it was not by a long shot the first time this had happened she was quite poplular it turns out), i was sitting up at the bar crying in my rainer and waiting for the poker game to start up that night, and i asked him 'if you guys all knew this about her, why didn't you tell me?'

he just looked at me and said 'someone has to take point'.

i understand he was talking about more than the current situation, but it rang rather true at that moment. i bought him another beer, good observation, well worth the cost.

you may be right, and you may be good, but sometimes you are still gonna get cut down. that is what i think he meant that time. i will never forget that valuable piece of advice.

thanks for taking point on this one, brother.

That is exactly what is supposed to be happening except all the geeky mapping things I did in the past that were such a hindrance to following the carefully orchestrated time line are being requested now. Finding where the offensive devices and necessary cables may or may not be is my problem. I should have checked every night after work. My bad.
