If he had been drinking, ran over a construction worker and killed him he would have gotten 30 days in jail.

As an alternative ending ...

It's too bad he can't use the money he amassed to be instantly frozen - and perfectly preserved in some special capsule in the prison for 150 years.

Then 150 years from now - with the same health now - he's thawed and given far more advanced treatment (currently not available) to make him even healthier. I'd also throw in a billion to get him started and clear his record - because who cares what happended 150 years ago. Anyway ... it puts a twist on things and makes it like a new beginning ... instead of an end that goes on forever.
