Donald Trump admits he's 'thinking about taking over' Strait of Hormuz

Donald Trump appears to be searching for an off-ramp to take the US out of the conflict with Iran as soon as possible after declaring the war was "very complete, pretty much"

Donald Trump has admitted he is "thinking about taking over" the Strait of Hormuz as he said the US "could do a lot" about the waterway.

The US President claimed the war was "very far ahead of schedule" after he and his Israeli counterpart Benjamin Netanyahu ordered a comprehensive bombardment of targets in Iran. The strikes killed Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei and wiped out much of the country's leadership.

Conflict in the Middle East has seen the busy Strait of Hormuz shipping lane grind to a halt. About 20 per cent of the world's oil supply flow through the shipping lane and Trump's intervention in Iran has seen prices spike worldwide.

Defense executives plan to meet at White House as strikes on Iran diminish stockpiles

March 4: The White House meeting comes as Deputy ā€ŒDefense Secretary Steve Feinberg has been leading Pentagon work in recent days on a supplemental budget request of around $50 billion that could be released as soon as Friday.

For $50 Billion Context: This figure, equates to roughly 5–6% of the annual Department of Defense (DoD) discretionary budget for fiscal year 2026, which stands at approximately $850–900 billion (with national defense totals nearing $900–1 trillion including related accounts).

Scratch that: Pentagon seeks $200 billion in additional funds for the Iran war, AP source says

This is probably the Pentagon being the Pentagon. My guess is that the Trumpster won't like the bloat built into the supplemental. We shall see.

Well, that sure jumped quick- from $1 billion a day to ā€œwe need $200 billion just to make up what we’ve used upā€.

Bet the big defense contractors are all giddy.

Not the most expensive war we've raged, but the daily burn-rate is pretty damn high. A quarter of the annual Pentagon budget in 19 days.

GROK: The $800 billion Pentagon budget refers to FY 2026. To see the trend:
  • FY 2025: ~$770 billion (Congress-approved base budget)
  • FY 2024: ~$750 billion
  • So the year-over-year increase is roughly $30 billion from 2025 → 2026, about 4% growth.
This means the $200 billion war request is roughly 26% of last year’s budget, slightly higher than the 25% of the current FY 2026 budget.

Maybe that's why the national debt is exploding, again.

It's shrinking...

But, if the Pentagon bloats the DoW (weird using that) spending by $200 Billion, half of the annual cut in the deficit will be blown.

As I think JTH is alluding to... There really is no way the Pentagon has spent close to 1/4th of their annual budget on 21 days of bombing. It's not like they had to build an aircraft carrier or multiple B2 bombers in these 21 days. It's not like they had to increase manpower. They did expend some expensive missiles and anti-missiles, but that is measured in millions, not high billions. They are trying to fund other crap.

Hey, you gotta pay for that new Trump battleship he wants. That money has gotta come from someplace-

2026 appropriated- $838 billion. What’s $200 billion more? https://www.appropriations.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/fy26_defense_bill_summary_conferenced.pdf

Another MEU set sail yesterday from San Diego, three weeks earlier than announced. They are led by USS Boxer, headed to the Mideast . So that’s gonna be a second MEU, so now up to 5,000 Marines headed there.

Left to right : USS Comstock, USS Boxer, USS Portland underway off San Diego.

Two MEUs to try and take Kharg Island.

I just wonder who thinks it’s a great idea to try and sail two MEU’s through the Strait of Hormuz to try and get close enough to Kharg Island to give an invasion there a try.

Narrow channel to drive a ship carrying hundreds of combatants. Sink any U.S. ship, or all of them, and it doesn’t look good. At all.

It's a typical play, ask for 200, get 50, then if it goes wrong blame others for being underfunded.

Look everyone I voted no to 200 and saved you 150 billion.....

The United States national debt crossed $39 trillion for the first time Tuesday, arriving at the grim milestone less than five months after it first hit $38 trillion in late October—a pace of accumulation that budget watchdogs and academic economists are now calling, with unusual unanimity, ā€œunsustainable.ā€

News flash- two ballistic missiles fired from Iran towards Diego Garcia. Thats a distance of over 2,000 nautical miles. No previously known Iranian missile has that kind of range.

Looking for news sources to confirm. So far I’m only seeing open source social media.
