Defense executives plan to meet at White House as strikes on Iran diminish stockpiles
March 4: The White House meeting comes as Deputy āDefense ā Secretary Steve Feinberg has been leading Pentagon work in recent days on a supplemental budget request of around $50 billion that could be released as soon as Friday.
For $50 Billion Context: This figure, equates to roughly 5ā6% of the annual Department of Defense (DoD) discretionary budget for fiscal year 2026, which stands at approximately $850ā900 billion (with national defense totals nearing $900ā1 trillion including related accounts).
Well unfortunately all the material used on Iran will have to be replaced.
Well, that sure jumped quick- from $1 billion a day to āwe need $200 billion just to make up what weāve used upā.
Bet the big defense contractors are all giddy.
Maybe that's why the national debt is exploding, again. Not the most expensive war we've raged, but the daily burn-rate is pretty damn high. A quarter of the annual Pentagon budget in 19 days.
GROK: The $800āÆbillion Pentagon budget refers to FYāÆ2026. To see the trend:
This means the $200āÆbillion war request is roughly 26% of last yearās budget, slightly higher than the 25% of the current FYāÆ2026 budget.
- FYāÆ2025: ~$770āÆbillion (Congress-approved base budget)
- FYāÆ2024: ~$750āÆbillion
- So the year-over-year increase is roughly $30āÆbillion from 2025 ā 2026, about 4% growth.
It's shrinking...Maybe that's why the national deficit is exploding, again.
It's shrinking...
But, if the Pentagon bloats the DoW (weird using that) spending by $200 Billion, half of the annual cut in the deficit will be blown.
As I think JTH is alluding to... There really is no way the Pentagon has spent close to 1/4th of their annual budget on 21 days of bombing. It's not like they had to build an aircraft carrier or multiple B2 bombers in these 21 days. It's not like they had to increase manpower. They did expend some expensive missiles and anti-missiles, but that is measured in millions, not high billions. They are trying to fund other crap.

The United States national debt crossed $39 trillion for the first time Tuesday, arriving at the grim milestone less than five months after it first hit $38 trillion in late Octoberāa pace of accumulation that budget watchdogs and academic economists are now calling, with unusual unanimity, āunsustainable.āIt's shrinking...
