Thanks. 'Feels' reasonable to me. It'll be one of the things we'll have to make a decision on soon.

Anyway to do a chart like that for the current way PS does scoring...some players may want to see both options in that simplified, clear, concise format you've created, before deciding?

also, could you please show the model with both its top off and top on so that we can make a decision based on the important points?

And like we mentioned earlier, both point systems can be recorded, piece of cake. There are other metrics too, like Average Finishing Place, or Total prize money, Knock out's, Etc.
The prize money ends up being fairly close to the default points, except IMO the prize money is actually a better gauge than points.

The only real change is that the rankings would be decided based on the 'new' point system, as opposed to the home game system

As you can see, there are 2 problems with it. 1st place in a 7 person tourney is worth more than 1st in a 9 person. And 1st place in an 8 person tourney worth more than 10, 12, 13, or 15 person tourneys! How ridiculous is that?
The 2nd problem is not many people get points, so the people who don't make it to the final 2 don't really have a metric for where they stand or whether they are improving or not.

You could use negative points. How's that for motivation to improve?

so i am basically kicking butt at the sit and goes and here comes this little lady gonna sit down and play... dreamboatany. funny how life goes in circles even if it ain't the circles you know.

lol your diamonds are blue? What are you shape-blind?

yes. i play 4 color deck because i am getting old and sometimes i think all my red cards are hearts for a flush but later they turn out not to be so this way i lose less fake money.

I'm convinced. Thanks. As Tom may be providing prizes, we should probably make openness and clarity a priority. Assuming the majority is on-board, would you be OK with sending me the raw and processed data after each tourney, when you finish what you do? (I'll likely forward a copy to a disinterested party as well. Someone not in it for the points. :) )

that sounds great and all, but i think barry is going to be too busy siting his library and accompanying boy bath house steam room to be counting cards for much longer.

This is what I propose for the new point system:

Possible slight modifications could be to limit how many people get points, but keep the same scale. i.e., only top 50% get points, Or top 75%, etc. (PokerStars does top 15%, but for very large tournaments)

I've looked at multiple different scoring options, and talked to friends of mine who are far more involved in poker than I am, and based on their talks, this system made the most sense, and I got the basic curve from PokerStars them-self.

What do you guys think? Does it make intuitive sense to you? Should getting First in a 9 person tourney be twice as much as First in a 4 person tourney?
I like it... yes makes sense. But then again I really don't care. I just want to win and play. Really dont care how I get buy in chips either.

hummmm.... nope I don't like it! How dare someone else use a derivative of my name!! :suspicious: are you sure it wasn't me???

So are we setting up a second game during week when we can just play for fun??? Like a standing night or two and whoever shows up shows up??? Not that I could play often but e.g...like a Thursday,Friday or Saturday night?

sure can.
The points system is an equation:

slight modifications from source: https://www.pokerstars.com/poker/tournaments/leader-board/explained/
Modifications:
1. Removed adjustments for buy-in price
2. Subtracted last place's points from everyone
2. Changed scalar from 10 to 2 so points are more inline with what we previous used. This can be anything, it doesn't really matter other than whether or not you look at decimals.

Yep, just like the previous room, we have a cash table available 24/7. Wow...I just got hungry all of a sudden. :)

Just a thought.

You give points out proportionately based on number of players. Ex. With 5 players, you give 1st place winner 5points, 2nd place gets 4points, 3rd place gets 3points, etc
If 9 players, you do the same..1st place gets 9 points, 2nd place gets 8 points, etc.

If you want to weight it, then assign bonus points by squaring the position but back wards. So with 5 players, first place get 5squared or 25points. 2nd place gets 4 squared or 16 points. 3rd place gets 3 squared or 9 points.

Then you could also assign bonus points for knock outs. Say 4 per knockout.

If you come back and say that is what your formula does at post 633, you can whack me with a big stick!!!! :smashfreakB:

I'm all for learning how I'm doing in terms of improvement, even if I'm not kicking anybody's butt. :cool2:
