TSP Poker Club

:D Looking forward to it........I think:D:D

Why do I feel like I'm being fleeced and we haven't even started yet?:D

Oh yeah....that's called EASY MARK:eek:

I think I'll have to take a pass for a bit, need to study up some on poker strategies so I actually have a chance to win a hand or 2 elsewhere and have the 1050 to even think of playing with you all. Otherwise, the way I read pokerstars site, I'll have to buy some play chips with real money to get rolling. I don't like that idea much, not that serious about playing. better uses for my real play money.

I'll start playing tsp tables once I got enough hardwon chips to sit at a tsp table. My strategy edumacation starts with a free book available at pokersites.com. Meanwhile, you big dogs have at it.
alevin, have no fear, you get 1000 chips for free. And if you lose all of them, they re-up you back to 1000 chips for free, without limit. I think there may be a time limit... Ask burro, he seems to know all about it .

I've never paid for chips, and I don't think anyone else here has either, unless they wanted to do more than just for fun.

Although for $2, 350K would last a long, long time if you stick to 1k tournaments. Like possibly a life time.

ok, there are 10 members of the TSP Poker Club now so that is good. if you can make the sunday tournament that would be great, but not required. days and times might be changed next week to accommodate a majority preferred schedule.

also, i think i have this poker playing thing figured out now. at any given time when i buy in at a table i could be sitting next to a liar, a forensic accountant, a hustler, a bully, a mom, a savant, or the luckiest person to ever walk god's green earth. and that was just person sitting to my right! i didn't have enough chips or time to try to figure out the other 7 players.

Guess I missed the play this pm. I had to go grocery shopping. Now that's done, I watched the pokerstar videos and got a little better understanding of how the software and resupply works. 1000 is not 1050. Am going to follow UQs advice and wait to play tournament until gotten some cash games under my belt, get enough of my own chips to enter the tournament when I think I've learned a little more than refresher on the basics. Pokerstars rules say no begging for chips, so I won't be doing that. I know UQ said he'd be willing to front the extra 50 to any who don't have it yet, but I'd rather work the cash games for now, gain some skills first. never played texas holdem before, think the last time I played it was 5card stud. long ago.

I see there are now 2 ring games in the club area. what's the dif between the 5/10 ring game and the 25/50 game? Are those the small and big bid required's at each game? It's winterthyme and it's dark out, I'll be making thyme to play, since I can't make my garden grow for another couple months yet.

the only real difference between the tables is some donk or two can get 5 times luckier on you 5 times faster is all. the secret joke is (shhhh, it's all free pretend money!) but some folks take it very serious.

Exactly! :) Small and Big Blinds. Normally, as the minimum blind goes up, so too does the min. and max. [INITIAL] bankroll limits for the table. I don't recall if that's the case here though. burro may remember how he set them up.

Just found this. Some folks may be more comfortable practicing alone first:

Neo Poker Bot - Advanced Poker AI

Improve your game with Neo Poker Coach!

I've never tried it except for a few heads up hands a minute ago, so I can't vouch for it. It's free, but you have to register for all of the play options, I believe.

I love straight answers to simple questions. Once I get rolling, I'll be the one collecting free chips 5x faster than donkey can say boo-ro! :D

I recommend playing at 6 handed no limit table, haven't tried the training yet

I'm happy to report that you'll probably find real life, play money players much easier to beat than this bot. :)

Just checking in on the Forum. I thought the game was on Sunday? Is there a schedule?

Thanks.

FS

there is a scheduled tournament game for today, sunday January 31, at 8:00 pm eastern time.

once you log into pokerstars you will be at the main lobby, click the 'home games' tab on the lower righthand menu and it will take you to the home games lobby. scroll down in the 'my poker clubs' windowpane until you see 'TSP Poker Club' and left click it then click the 'open club lobby' button and you will get into the club room.

once in the club room, you can navigate around using the tabs at the top menu. the 'club home' tab will show you all registered members and if they are online there will be a green check mark next to their name (sometimes, i think a few folks figured out how to hide that status). we currently have 10 accepted members. a few other message board members have declined the invite, and a few more have not responded, yet. but the offer stands for any tsptalk forum member to join, just pm me if you want in.

if you click on the 'schedule' tab on the top menu, you will see the games. the top window pane has two games which are 'ring' or 'cash' games meaning you buy in and the blinds stay the same and you can play or chat or leave at any time. this is where a few of us (cue, kuz, gata, stu) have been playing a little bit. there is usually only 2-4 players on at any one time and a short-handed ring table is a quick way to lose a lot of chips. usually unless you specialize in short-handed lightning fast mean play you are not going to want to do this for a living, but it is a good way for a few friends to sit down and play and chat a bit. in the public game look for tables with 7-9 players for a 'normal' game.

in the 'schedule' tab area, the bottom window pane lists the scheduled games. there is one called 'sunday night' and it is the one i mention earlier that is set for 8 pm tonight. i also made it a recurring weekly game and the results will count for the TSP Poker Club season standings. we can change the days and times these 'season' games happen when we find something that is convenient for most members. to join you will need 1050 chips but the pokersite only gives you 1000 to start so you will have to practice and win some, or else ask another member to transfer you some. alevin did note that the pokersite says no begging for chips, but that is referring to panhandling at the public tables. there is a function where any member can transfer 1000 chips to any other member and it is valid in the software, so if you want to play tonight but need a stake, just sit down at the low limit 5/10 ring table and ask in the chat window. myself or usercue for sure (and probably any member with enough bank) will arrange to transfer some to you so you can get in the game if needed.

i would encourage people who have not played before to get in some practice as it does take some learning to get the menus and bets and flow of the game down. that being said, you don't have to be perfect or the best damn poker player in the world to feel comfortable playing with the rest of us, this is for fun among tsptalk friends. it may get serious at times and no matter how good you are sometimes you are going to lose anyways, so just join a game and have fun and maybe learn something, or just kill a few hours so you don't have to vacuum or do the dishes or clean up the dog poo in the yard. also make some snacks for the kids beforehand so that when you turn into a poker degenerate they won't tell their teachers at school and get child protective services called on you (if you have a spouse you might want to give them some extra love and attention early in the afternoon so they are not bugging you when you are trying to play poker later or calling the divorce lawyer).

all are welcome, i look forward to seeing you there.
