TSP Poker Club

My phone (Apple) app does not have a link for the Home Games. Not sure if the Android is different.

I'm reluctant to download the software to my Laptop. It's the only machine that I have and it contains my financial information/software. Is the download for poker a large one? Is this something that I could use a Droid app for?

some random thoughts...

i think i would find it difficult to play on a phone, there are times when you might want access to a full keyboard and number pad.

the pokersite is one of the largest in the world and probably about as safe as it gets for this type of thing.

this is for play money so there is no giving or exchanging credit card or payment info with the site or other players. all it takes to sign up is username, password, and email.

if you are worried about the software 'backdooring' into you financial info, the nsa, google, apple, microsoft, and facebook already beat them to it.

if you are a current fed, retired fed, or ever applied for a fed job, then the chinese already stole all your digital stuff. who cares if some snot nosed whelp in bejing is watching you get your butt kicked at free play money poker.

any decent anti-virus and firewall package should be standard on your system and if that is not enough security for you then you might want to consider never buying anything from amazon.com, stop paying your utility bills online, and stock up on rocks and clams to barter for used hand-me-downs at the flea market.

poker is a game of risk. if it is important to you not to take any risks, then you may want to consider a different hobby like tiddlywinks or volunteering down at the food bank or helping old ladies across the street (but be careful so a tiddly wink don't bounce up and poke you in the eye, no homeless get dirt on your suit, or you don't get hit by a bus).

we look forward to seeing you in the game next week.

Side note:

Anyone who doesn't have the time to practice and earn chips prior to the TSP Poker Club tourney, let me know and I'll transfer you some of mine. I bought some at a discount as first time buyer but it turns out I earn enough from winning a few tourneys here and there. I have so many, I'm never running out!

So I played the bot at UQ's link-a lot yesterday. Managed to beat the bot a few times, learning a little bit more each time I played. Wore out my mouse-clicking finger-seriously. Then I watched the first tournament as an observer last night, learned a little bit more. some chat shorthand, some program autoplay terms that weren't in the training video on the site, a bit about each players style, including burros silverback final moves, which I labeled for myself as "going for blood". The first two players to go down took awhile, the final 4-up until near the end I was sure one of the others was going to wipe the floor, or that it would be a bitter longdrawn out battle between the final 2. Enlightening to observe before getting into the pit, especially for a rank beginner like me. My next move will be in the sit and go ring games.

I would play the Sit & Go a lot as it is more realistic of what is played in TSP Club. Also. you get to test different theories with a full table. You get free chips, use them up! Hope to see you there next weekend.

Plus....nobody will remember you if you lose it all in one play so no shame in losing. I know, I tried that move a few times. :D

One thing that may not have been as obvious by watching, or going out 'early', is that the blinds really dictate the pace of the game. I think the blinds were up to 200, or more, when it was heads up.

You can't sit around and wait for a pocket pair; At some point you are going to have to win coin flips.

If I could go back to the last hand, I'd make the same decision to call. I believe I was a 54% favorite to win the hand after the flop.

Right, this is also why you see a lot of 'all in's' late in the game. You really don't have a choice with huge blinds.

Like watching a good magician, there's a lot going on that you don't see with pro players. And what you think is going on, may not be the reality.

there were lots of things going one there in that tourney at that time, but for sure you made a good decision when you did, you 'got your money in good'. and anybody in that situation will win in the long run that hand exactly 54% of the time. also that means the hand will lose 46% of the time. you made a correct decision based on a number of factors, actually you made correct decisions the whole game. but more importantly, you did not make any incorrect decisions when it most counted, and you are ok with that. dangerous.

the bottom line for me was chip stacks. me (opponent a) had 7k, you (opponent b) had 2k. so when things accelerate to the 'quick', 'a' can lose 3 hands before losing the game and 'b' can only lose once. it is much easier to ultimately win coin flips if you get to flip it 3 times instead of only once.

opponent 'a' goal at that point is to put opponent 'b' to the question, if one chip goes in, then they all go in, one shot. 'b' has to decide when to take the shot. 'a' had 7k and 'b' had 2k in chips. 'a' can lose 3 hands before going busto, but 'b' can only lose 1, all the marbles, all the time.

if 'a' loses first hand then the chip ratio is 5 to 4 still in 'a' favor and 'a' can still bust 'b' the next hand. if 'a' loses the second 'coin flip' then the ratio switches to 'b' 8 to 1 and 'a' has to claw his way back and choose. so that is a pretty simple deal, especially if second place is still an acceptable solution for 'a'.

i will say again, 'b' made no incorrect decisions in that game, and importantly did not make incorrect decisions under deliberate pressure. so i know already you will kick my ass at some point, but that is ok, because 46% of the time i might grab a score. there is no love in poker, but there is respect, and you have mine. i am still going to try to take you down again, every time.

btw... burro, I think you knocked every single person out of the tournament.

Actually the stats say you knocked 6 people out... of a 6 person tourny. You're so good you knocked yourself out

i think the way the software counts it is everybody who sits down at the table has a 'bounty' on them. if you stand them up and they walk away then you get their 'bounty'. when only one person is left and they stand up, who gets their 'bounty'? well i guess they walk away with their own too is how it must figure it. i think.

so there has not been very many votes for the 3 polls i posted about days or weekend vs weekday times to play. i would encourage anyone who has an interest (if you are reading this thread you have an interest) to vote in all of them.

for now i am going to keep the regularly scheduled sunday game at 8 pm eastern time, but the votes so far show an early afternoon start time would be better for most so that could change next week, but this sunday's scheduled game is still on.

also i would like to play a weekday tourney, but the data is pretty evenly split on which day. also we have both east and west coasters here in the club but there is a tie between 7 pm et and 9pm et for weekdays.

so for now, i am going to schedule a single tournament for this thursday night at 8 pm et and split the difference at 8 pm et (yes, just two days from now). but it will not count for 'season' standings, only the sunday night game counts for the season for now.

i hope anybody who is interested joins up and if convenient will play this thursday for 'fun', a game between members but not one for keeps. i hope to see you there.

reminder: there is a 'funsies' tournament scheduled for 8pm et tomorrow night if anyone wants to sit down and play or practice the tsp poker club format. this one is not for 'keepsies' (it will not count for the season standings).

also there is the regularly scheduled (for now) weekly sunday tourney at 8pm this weekend, but it is also superbowl weekend... so will anybody be playing? would you play but at a different time if didn't interfere with the last broadcast of your rigged sports reality tv fantasy and commercial watching?

if you want to play sunday let me know and also specify different time if that is a factor.

I'm in. I can watch tv and play at the same time.
