The Oldies But Goodies Network

So it occurred to me as I was enjoying some Classic Zappa, how many of these of these newly formed woke groups / communities with their neon hair, gender dysphoria, and multiple pronouns would be triggered into a complete psychotic meltdown by listening to an old Zappa song??

Frank implemented "Tongue-in cheek (
a humorous or sarcastic statement expressed in a serious manner ) humor" in a lot of his music, and it was understood and taken as such.
So, without further ado, lets go back in time. And try to relax, will ya.......... Take a deep breath.

There's some vid links that pop up on screen around the 2:35 mark and last about 20 seconds (at least 4 me there R). Just ignore those. Nuthin I can do :(

Definitely remember this song. Think I was about 11 at the time. Back when you just listened to the song and let your imagination create the images in your head.
This guy made a pretty good video for the song.

My visual interpretation of D.O.A. by Bloodrock; the song was banned by several music stations because of its gruesome lyrics when released in 1971

Re: Music Videos

This song will always be special to me.
In September 2019 Sue and I were at a wedding reception for my cousin's son. One thing led to another, and things kept being delayed. Everyone at the reception was getting a little antsy when finally, the DJ played this song as the first song of the evening. The place erupted. Sue grabbed my hand and we headed to the dance floor. This was the last function we attend and danced at, one because of covid but also because Sue passed from cancer in 2021.

Shut up and dance by Walk The Moon

Not sure why just the link is popping up and not the video?

Re: Music Videos

Can't lie. I love me some Old School Funk. It had a big influence in my song writing and what I like to listen to, even though I'm a rocker/metal head.
Bootsy, Hot Chocolate, Parlament, Grand Master Melle Mel, Ohio Players, etc........ Way too many for me to remember them all.
So here's some Old School flashbacks for Funky Friday........LOL

Before ANY famous rappers, this guy was the King and was one of the Originals.
Good beat with "in your face" machine gun lyrics. Swag and attitude.

Since the worlds gone batsh1t crazy, it's time for some comic relief. Sometimes you just need it......
Actually saw these guys open for GWAR around '90. They were great!!!
Led Zeppelin songs + Reggae style + a larger than life Elvis impersonator =
Dread Zeppelin
One comment: How could any sane person give this masterpiece a thumbs down????!!!
Not too many decent vids out there, seeing that they started back in 1989, but search around if you like.
Such good stuff ! ! ! ! One of the best ones I could find (plus a bonus).
:D

Re: Music Videos

Nice! Been a long time since I heard those.

I thought it was funny that the "Comments are turned off" on the Immigrant Song. :)

Huh.... I didn't notice that till you mentioned it. Probably some hardcore Zeppelin fanboys hatin on it for no reason, so they turned it off. They just don't "get it"......
I love it.......and I can imagine that's just how Elvis would have sung it.

Re: Music Videos

Not really an "Oldie" (performed in 2005), but it has all ingredients of a good old fashioned 70's Style Jam. The Old School keyboard, Slide Guitar, Super tight drumming, and the amazing Bass playing from Andy Hess.
At just over 12 minutes long, it's just a fun, old school, 70's style Jam, with some really great players.
Open a cold one and put on the headphones for this one ! ! ! ! Good stuff indeed.

Thanks.
Always love a good bass.
Been sorting through some old slides and negatives from the 70's getting ready to digitize them. So this kind of set the tone.
