Ok,Ok, its Crainium from its Maximus Gludious !
And of course you are correct, that is exactly what I was thinking. ;)

BTW, I've seen minor mentions of the "IFTing less than 1% of your TSP" in other messages, but the post you wrote in response to Tom's request was a thorough and excellent description of how it works. Thanks for that!

Have a good one,
Lady

I think of Bullwinkle's hat, it's NEVER a rabbit, even though he always says so.
You're so right! It's the perfect description! :notrust:

Rocky, watch me pull a rabbit out of this hat!

Again??! That trick never works!

I got to get me another hat!

Every once in a while, someone disrupts the AutoTracker by posting a IFT
that isn't possible to do. We've seen it before and Tom wants to keep the
AutoTracker clean as many members are in friendly competition for prizes.

Because some TSP participants at work are under the impression that the
imposed limits would force them to move 100% of their money into the (G)
after completing their 2 unrestricted IFT, AND , when looking at the Auto
Tracker at face value, you can't tell that a partial percentage move might
have been made, AND , the TSP Website does not document this tidbit of
information to its participant, I decided to write Tom and explained what I
know to be true.

Tom asked me to explain what I told him within the Thread he created.
http://www.tsptalk.com/mb/showthread.php?t=6258

A solid way to open a discussion, open lines of communication and a great
way to keep the membership properly informed of their abilities. I was only
too glad to add my two cents in and help eliminate confussion. Even if this
type of IFT may be looked at as useless by some of the members, I want
people to know of its existance, because they should.

How Safe Is Your Retirement Money in the TSP?
September 23, 2008

My Federal Retirement has been receiving many questions from readers regarding the safety of their retirement money in light of the recent troubles in the U.S. financial markets. Below are some resources that will help answer some of your questions.

*Are the Thrift Savings Plan assets safe if the company contracted to manage them goes bankrupt?
GovExec.com covered this issue in a recent article here:
http://www.govexec.com/story_page_pf.cfm?articleid=40761&printerfriendlyvers=1

Another article to read is: "As Wall Street scrambles,
TSP plans for upgrades and emergencies" found here:
http://www.govexec.com/story_page_pf.cfm?articleid=40967&printerfriendlyvers=1
*Is my Thrift Savings Plan (TSP) account FDIC insured?
No. The Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) insurance protects you against the loss of your deposits in an FDIC-insured bank or savings association. FDIC insurance applies to traditional types of bank accounts such as checking, savings, certificates of deposit, and IRA retirement accounts. It does not cover mutual funds, annuities, life insurance policies, or stocks even if you purchase these products from an insured bank. Similarly, it does not protect investment accounts such as private sector 401(k) plans or the Thrift Savings Plan.
*How can I find out if my bank accounts are covered by FDIC insurance?
The FDIC has recently launched a website with an easy-to-use online questionnaire that will help you determine if the money you have in deposit accounts at FDIC-insured banks is fully protected. To access it go here: [URL="http://www.myfdicinsurance.gov/"]http://www.myfdicinsurance.gov/

If you have 5 rental houses and use a management company to manage those properties and the management company goes broke, do you lose those houses?

No. You still own the houses.

You still own your thrift account no matter who manages it.

I guess thats why the Thrift Board has been making contigency plans
(ooops, emergency plans) to withdraw TSP Funds from Barclays should
the Company begin to fold. :suspicious:

Fear not my young apprentice. If I could go in now, I would. Other then
the Evil Empire Committee making the Sith-Lords sweat the last two days,
a bargain will be reached. The Empire will absorb all the dark paper of the
universe and the Sith Lords will be satisfied they showed political concern
on TV. Re-election bids for some, I'm sure. The market will jump upward
for a few days and champagne will flow. I only wish it would be delayed
until October 2nd so that I could have a sip or two myself. But alas, the
economy, earnings, employment and housing will soon come into focus
and the champagne will be gone. Another 6% to the upside would not be
a great surprise. If I'm wrong, the pit will have no bottom. Thus is the risk
you have decided to endure. Maybe you and Warren Buffett will reap the
benefits of your strength. I most certainly hope so, but not until the 2nd.

SB,

The way congress is moving you may be able to catch the wave. I am hoping to cover my loses before the month ends so I can be sitting in G before October. Just don't have a good feel for the 4th quarter. Too many variables. The way the market is bouncing hour by hour 2 IFT's just doesn't afford any protection and if you are on the sidelines you just can't make it profitable. Then with the noon EST trade deadline.... I know I am preaching to the choir.:D But it makes me feel better.

May the force be with us.

The pressure to handle this crisis before Congress ends this session and
goes home is very transparent. During several interviews, I've heard that
the politicians might even allow the decision to laps and call for one of
those emergency sessions in response to the pressure and to avoid the
appearence of haste in making such a large $$$$$ decision. Its anyones
guess at this point. Another wait and bite your nails scenario. :notrust:
