I think most of us have no choice but hold at this point. i know I'm not willing to sell at these prices. I'm just trying to NOT focus on my balance and wait this out. I have over 10 years for a recovery so I think for me a panic sell would be the wrong thing to do. Hopefully this was the last panic sell today.

I got sucked into the hype and did not look at the big picture. I did not set my stop and stick with it no matter what and now I am stuck like a bleeding pig.

They got me with the "guarantee" the Congress would pass the Bill and then there would be joy in the streets of Wall Street. Yea, right should have known with the immediate post bill passage sell off. I increased my contributions to TSP and it hurts already.

Next president will inherit a mess and it will be chaos in the White House.

A glimmer of hope is to compare the sell off from Oct 2001 to this one. The S&P free fell to 944 and then rallied back to the 200 dma. I hope and pray we get a similar bear rally. Then the market double topped and fell to the mid 700's and that is where the long term support lay.

Good luck and get those contributions going.

P.S. I'm not looking at my Roth until morning. I'm in the big house of pain there, all gains gone and into my principle. I can't wait to add $5k to both accounts.

The failed rally play from the "bill" as well as IFT limits got me REAAAAAAAL GOOD! It took all of 6 trading days to make my +10.2% a -12%!

The way I look at it is like this...nobody can time the top AND the bottom. If you get in too early, you suffer on the way down, but enjoy the entire way up. If you get in too late, you missed the fall but will suffer by missing 5-10% of the way up.

I got out fully last month, before this downward leg started.

Can pick up lots of shares for sure at this price.

Just have to figure the best way to work my way back in, and when and all that.

I figure also we are not done yet. Even a pop to the upside, I do not think will hold long, and will test the lows again.

So, Some decisions here to make on how I go about all this.

This ain't fun.

I will never come to the dark side. The disturbance is strong but we will prevail. The force will protect us as long as we believe.

Alright girls it's time for us all to butch up. Lock and load and let's go hunting for the bargains. Palin is out front with a nice vpl to provide incentive to keep going. When we reach the bottom of the well the water will be refreshing and you better know how to dog paddle. If I were to tell you all how much I've been devalued you would fall off your chair - but my asset base remains intact and I'm going to be adding to my existing pain level and will continue to buy myself into happiness - I've bought all the way down for a year now so there is no need to change strategy - it just means I won't have to run quite as fast heading on the upside. The name of the game now is to accumulate and accumulate some more.

Our ROTHs are taking a beating also, but I'll continue to max them both because these I don't plan on hittign for another 8 to 10 years and the fire sale is on. Divvy stocks only for us.

I can always work till I'm 60 (6 more years), or longer, and not retire at 58 if worse comes to worse. But like you I'm still alive, have a job and almost debt free.

All I can do now is wait for the market to improve. I increased my contributions to $475 a pay period and that is going to hurt and feel good at the same time. Cheap prices equal more shares.
