Show-me Account Talk

Show Me, looking at your chart, looks like your emotions are pretty far into oversold territory.

Increasing contributions if possible is probably the best move anyone with a time horizon can make. I think it's safe to say that we can pretty much throw out every single piece of TA at this point in the game. Sentiment... Threw that out the window when the March lows didn't hold. Anyone who bought the drops this past week or played the VIX got scalded pretty good and probably locked in their losses on stop orders.

Nearly every one of my guys, whether bearish, growth or value players have been blown out in this past week alone. Some are still holding, and a few have thrown in the towel completely. One day they say we're in the 7th inning, the next day we're still in the 4th inning but nobody has a clue what the score is.

The only ones who saw this coming were perma-bears and their advice is useless. If we get The Big Crash, we'll be better off with a 'tack driver' on our hip than a basement full of gold bullion. I'm staying the course with Index Funds.

Wish I could, did the calcs and I will be maxed out at 15,500 for the year at my last paycheck. At these prices I'd like to buy more. Good on you guys it's a smart move.

I wish the IRS would raise the limit. The $15,500 yr is not enough. As Birch would say....shares are cheap at this price.:)

They could suspend the cap for several years and allow members to contribute as much as they liked. Now really is the time to load up - the C fund can only fall ten more points. We all liked the price at $17.50 but now it's golden for the longer term prospects.

All I can do now is wait for the market to improve. I increased my contributions to $475 a pay period and that is going to hurt and feel good at the same time. Cheap prices equal more shares.

Show-me,

Do you have a price target to sell UYG yet? After Friday's dip I now have 3600 shares and would sure like to see 25.00 again. My speedboats were reduced by 75k last week... Feeling the pain!

I hope you're feeling better. This market sure has made me nauseous more then a few days last week.

Does anyone know how we can find out how much TSP total fund values have lost so far this month, Is that data available?

TSP = 75C 15S 10I

Roth and Traditional IRA’s - UYG and SSO

All other 401k's fully long

OUCH - and Aye Carumba for last week....

I'm now a buy and hope investor with my speedboats....

You guys are my hero's! My time line is 17 years until MRA and accumulation of shares is the name of the game after the first and only eight trading days in October, this is HISTORIC. We are living with this historic event and can capitalize on it. BUY, BUY, BUY! Buy until it hurts and then buy some more.

Robo,
I was going to sell at $19-$20, and I still may. If this nightmare last into 2009 and I can get some super cheap shares for mine and the wifes Roth I may just walk away from the trading desk for a summer and let it run.

Financials are the cornerstone of everything and will come back, they may not look the same, but they will come back.

I don't know if you want dollars TSP fund lost or percent. Dollars won't come out until the board meeting, but here is a link I use to track YTD, MTD, and WTD of TSP funds.

All you guys,
Preach the max contributions more so these young guys "get it".

I am so proud of my oldest son. Friday I got home a pulled up a six month candlestick chart of the S&P. He exclaimed that that graph fell off a cliff. I exclaimed "very good and correct" and lead to a lengthy discussion about the historic events we are living and about 401k matching contributions and Roth IRA's. He told me that "it would be stupid to not get the match or to never pay taxes on a Roth". I'm on cloud nine!!! I then told him about Clark Howard's philosophy of putting 50% of your income into retirement and he is really thinking about it.

I'm going to give him a week to let it soak in and then try to get him to set a Share Builders account.

Congratulations, Show-me! IMHO, a parent should teach a child three basic things: love, ethics, financial responsibility. Knowing what I know of you, the first two are a slam-dunk, and now you've nailed the third one. You're so good!:cool:

Good morning Lady!

A lot of times our kids are not receptive to our comments, but when world events are all over the media they take notice and that is the time to break into the subject when THEY make a comment about it. I saw a opportunity and jumped on it and he was receptive. It was beautiful!

"Share Builder Account" ??????? This is something that my two kids (11 &9) could use as learning tool for intro-investing ???????? Looking for something "Fun" and "Easy". IE. "Lego", "Star Wars", "American Girl"...........Thanks from the east side...

Way to go Show-me. I got my daughter to open Share builder ROTH account last year and after talking about what's going on with the markets like you did with your son, she understands that stocks on on a fire share and she is buying all that she can, because time is on her side.

I've also been stressing NO DEBT. She's already been offered a good job at St. Judes, nursing, so she is anxious to see what their 401k plan is and how to invest.

And like you I learned all of this from the guys here.

Very nice Show-me. For some reason I thought you were closer to MRA or even retired.
Interesting start this morning - we'll see, but wish everyone GL!

Unrelated - a friend sent me this, I thought you'ld likely appreciate:

George Phillips of Meridian, Mississippi was going up to bed when his wife told him that he'd left the light on in the garden shed, which she could see from the bedroom window.

George opened the back door to go turn off the light but saw that there were people in the shed stealing things.

He phoned the police, who asked 'Is someone in your house?,' and he said, 'No.'
Then they said that all patrols were busy, and that he should simply lock his door and an officer would be along when available.

George said, 'Okay,' hung up, counted to 30, and phoned the police again. 'Hello, I just called you a few seconds ago because there were people stealing things from my shed. Well, you don't have to worry about them now because I just shot them.'
Then he hung up.

Within five minutes, six police cars, a SWAT Team, a helicopter, two fire trucks, a paramedic and an ambulance showed up at the Phillips' residence and caught the burglars red-handed.

One of the Policemen said to George: 'I thought you said that you'd shot them!'
George said, 'I thought you said there was nobody available!' ;)

Good one! Just a FYI, keep your video and digital cameras handy. We had a incident in our 'hood this weekend and I was thinking they make great evidence. Bad economy equals bad actions by citizens. Be prepared.

Bad economy equals bad actions by citizens. Be prepared.
About two weeks ago when the articles about people hoarding cash at their homes began to hit the airwaves, my retired law enforcement husband remarked it was going to cause an increase in burglaries. Over the weekend my brother-in-law, who is active law enforcement, said that there has been an increase in burglaries in our general area.

People are so predictable. :(
