Re: Santa Rally

I feel fortunate and humbled to know you've carved the time needed to take care of your family, all-the-while sharing your experiences with us. It reminds me that serving our country is really just a means used to serve & protect our family. Thank you for passing the baton, we will continue to carry it, as will our children. Stand tall and stand proud, when I think of you I will do the same...Jason

Re: Update

Being a part of this mb has run the gambit of emotions. It has been a pleasure to watch the mb grow and take part in the discussions. If I have angered anyone during that time you have my deepest apology. Thank you!

I think I may be part of some silent majority out here... want you to know how much I have appreciated your Thread and Postings over the many years I've been reading, though I haven't posted much; I've learned & benefitted a lot. You have been a blessing to many more than you know.
Don't know really who you are, except that you are "Show-me" the TSP-Guru & obviously a very courageous human-being and a super husband... but I thank you for your public service too, & I pray for you & your's.

Re: Update

I admire your courage and the way you have taken care of getting things in order for your family. May God bless you and your family.
I am so glad to have met you on the TSP board.

Re: Santa Rally

Now, there's a MAN. What a great example you set for courage, responsibility, and doing more than you should. I'm sorry to hear about your situation and I hope you don't have much discomfort. Thanks for everything

Re: Santa Rally

God bless you Show! Stay strong and remember you have a lot of friends out here praying for you and your family!

Re: 9% and a update.

This morning was much less eventful as yesterday, pain management is the key. As long as you are at that sweet spot things are much more bearable. Thanks everyone for the kindness, one day at a time. I just want to hold out until the disability retirement is approved, the difference in survivor annuity is tremendous, 8% vs. 20% of my high three. That's a big deal.

Re: Santa Rally

Show-me, I could only repeat what the others have said. May God smile upon you and your family. It's been an honor.

Marty

Wow, Show-me. Thanx for sharing with us. This is the kind of stuff that concerns me. I know I will be, OK, no matter what happens. It's my wife having enough if I die that worries us. She is totally dependent on me which is why I also signed up for 5X on the government insurance when we got married. I do hope you get your disability retirement. Your actions have been an inspiration.

Mike, you have been a good friend to many of us. You have shown us how to build additions, fall off the roof (?), add toddlers to your already nearly grown-up family, suffer through bee diseases, kids' injuries, rejoice over your wife's negative breast biopsy, and now educating tsp'ers on preparation steps on finances for the families. Spaf was loved, you are loved, and we will sorely miss you as we have him. Do all you need to keep the pain eased. God's Blessings will carry your family through, via your witness and God's grace. Thank you .....
......Pat

Dr. appt today, cancer stable but blood markers are rising. Lung disease is getting worse and my air volume is getting very low. Going back tomorrow to have fluid removed from around the right lung.

Fighting every step of the way.

Don Imus will have nothing to do with chemo. He does Susan Summers veggie diet. He's got prostrate cancer. And he runs a camp for kids on chemo. Now you go figure. I don't know your regime and I'm not a doc. Eat veggies, garlic, avacados, leafy salades, no dressing. Can't hurt. These rid you slowly of fungus that invades your body either before or during treatment. Fact is that cancer now is often thought to be a fungus. No processed food, no meat, no sugars or substitutes. If I am out there, intrusive, tell me to get bent, anyone. I don't care about what people say about me. Just get better show me. Just get better.

Show, praying everything will come together for the disability retirement before things progress any further, so that you and your family will have that peace of mind and rest easier. Our hearts are with you. Allie

Re: 9% and a update.

Show-me, if you haven't tried turmeric, see what other cancer survivors say about this cancer-fighting spice from this website: http://csn.cancer.org/node/219876

The medicinal properties of this spice have been slowly revealing themselves over the centuries. Long known for its anti-inflammatory properties, recent research has revealed that turmeric is a natural wonder, proving beneficial in the treatment of many different health conditions from cancer to Alzheimer's disease.

Here are 20 reasons to add turmeric to your diet:

1. It is a natural antiseptic and antibacterial agent, useful in disinfecting cuts and burns.
2. When combined with cauliflower, it has shown to prevent prostate cancer and stop the growth of existing prostate cancer.
3. Prevented breast cancer from spreading to the lungs in mice.
4. May prevent melanoma and cause existing melanoma cells to commit suicide.
5. Reduces the risk of childhood leukemia.
6. Is a natural liver detoxifier.
7. May prevent and slow the progression of Alzheimer's disease by removing amyloyd plaque buildup in the brain.
8. May prevent metastases from occurring in many different forms of cancer.
9. It is a potent natural anti-inflammatory that works as well as many anti-inflammatory drugs but without the side effects.
10. Has shown promise in slowing the progression of multiple sclerosis in mice.
11. Is a natural painkiller and cox-2 inhibitor.
12. May aid in fat metabolism and help in weight management.
13. Has long been used in Chinese medicine as a treatment for depression.
14. Because of its anti-inflammatory properties, it is a natural treatment for arthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.
15. Boosts the effects of chemo drug paclitaxel and reduces its side effects.
16. Promising studies are underway on the effects of turmeric on pancreatic cancer.
17. Studies are ongoing in the positive effects of turmeric on multiple myeloma.
18. Has been shown to stop the growth of new blood vessels in tumors.
19. Speeds up wound healing and assists in remodeling of damaged skin.
20. May help in the treatment of psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions.

20 Health Benefits of Turmeric

Contraindications: Turmeric should not be used by people with gallstones or bile obstruction. Though turmeric is often used by pregnant women, it is important to consult with a doctor before doing so as turmeric can be a uterine stimulant.

I bought my turmeric online at amazon.com. Indus Organics (100% certified organic) turmeric powder, 16 oz (2 jars for $34).

My super drink: In a tall glass of hot water, I put a green tea bag and squeeze it out after 5 minutes. Then add:

1 tsp. turmeric powder
1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1 heaping tbsp. coffee
1 heaping tbsp. Hershey's Cocoa (natural unsweetened)
1 tbsp. honey
1 tbsp. extra virgin olive oil (Trader Joe's California Estate is rated best)

I drink half of it in the morning and store half in the fridge and finish it off in the evening. I've been doing it for about 7 years (added turmeric, black pepper and extra virgin olive oil last year). The antioxidants in this drink slows down the aging process, helps eliminate pain from arthritis, and kicks cancer-butt. Coffee has been known to protect against colon and prostate cancer. Take care and continue the fight.
