Respro here. 50% S 50% I since early 2008. I lost a good chunk of change but didn't panic. I made all I lost back plus a nice return over the last few years. Question is, will the mess in europe kill the I fund long term? Should I get out of the I now before Greece defaults? Anyway, glad to meet you folks! OH, Thanks for the info.

Respro, welcome aboard. The "I" fund also depends on how the dollar is doing. I think the I fund will have some good potential for awhile. There will be some warning before Greece or Spain defaults. m I would think that Greece or Spain will get out of the Euro before defaulting. Just my opinion.

Welcome Aboard!!

I'm going to hold my I fund position of 80% until Germany does another blitzkrieg - now when will that happen. Welcome to the cash bar.

I've been looking around this site and to be honest, all this info is overwhelming! I assume what I am currently doing is DCAing. Currently 12 percent of my paycheck , 50 percent I an 50 percent S. my account hasn't taken any big hits in the last couple of years, but not much growth either. I have 15 years left to work. Surely there has to be some ways to get this train moving in a positive direction again. Any advice is greatly appreciated!

respo, sounds like you have a plan and at least 15 years of investing should help smooth out some rough spots.

Yes! There is a LOT here. And lots of strategies.

When I first started, I was somewhat like you. I did 33/34/33 (C/S/I) for about 20 years, maxing out my contribution. Yes, that is DCA in a nutshell, and I think you will find that it will serve you well. After you get a bigger balance, you will notice that the DCA starts losing it's effect....just because the amts you are putting in are way smaller than the amts that are coming and going due to market changes. That's when people start trying to use other methods....with varying success, tho. :suspicious:

You are welcome to follow any system or make up your own, but DCA is as good as any out there!

Good Luck!! :D

I'm not buying these jumps. Until Europe works itself out, then the U.S. works itself out, it's going to be up and down over and over. If Greece elections this weekend end up going the way I think they will we all better be in the G FUND!

What's the quickest way to change your account allocations? Ex. Move all funds from the I fund to the S fund. I'm wondering if I can call TSP and ask them to do it for me today so I can protect myself from the armageddon on Monday.
