Report H1N1 here.

All I know is that several of the surrounding small communities within 100 miles each had 30% of schoolkids out with flu about 5 weeks ago. The son of one of our employees was just released from big city hospital to come home yesterday-big city hospital being 200 miles from his home. He had been intubated and in ICU with lungs filling with fluid (secondary pneumonia). We are grateful he survived.

I mentioned to my endocrinologist I see every three months that I caught the H1N1 and he was not very impressed and said that it is a mild form of influenza and most people get over it on their own…He is more concerned that I get my yearly seasonal flu shot and to avoid that form at all cost.

I think you are spot on CB;)

Local hospitals here are being told to report all suspected cases of flu as H1N1, regardless. Sounds like they are padding the stats, so they can sandbag us later. Just another chicken little crisis?

I heard a report today that 4 out of 5 cases of H1N1 were mis-diagnosed. Or should I say suspected cases of H1N1. Can you say "hype"?

According to the CDC, in the USA alone, 36,000 people die from non H1N1 seasonal flu-related causes each year.

Now the reports are saying that there is a version of the H1N1 that is Tamiflu resistant...

The momentum of the H1N1 flu outbreak has fallen off, but flu activity is still high and Tamiflu-resistant virus may have begun to spread. USA TODAY'S Steve Sternberg asks experts for their perspective.

Q: What is the latest about Tamiflu-resistant cases?
A: Four patients at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., and at least five in an unidentified hospital in Wales have become infected with H1N1, or swine flu, viruses that no longer respond to treatment with Tamiflu. Flu viruses swap genes as part of their normal evolution; that means resistant viruses could quickly spread worldwide, says Duke's Daniel Sexton.

Once again- the media, public and madness of crowds lead the world to believe that what goes up will go up indefinitely and forever. Think Japanese Stocks in the 80's, Tech/Nasdaq in the 90's, Housing in the 2000's, and presently China. Oh, I forgot to mention Swine Flu.

Flu? Too bad, you get dinged for changing your ticket. So 51% of surveyed said they'd fly anyway.

I truly believe that the airlines should be making accomodations for the ill, even if just to maybe avoid lawsuits, regardless if considered frivolous. Back in the 80's they did, with MD notes, but maybe that was just the particular airline I was using at that time. ...have no idea which one, tho - may be the same one noted in this article that does it.....

However...I'm curious as to what the folks at the other end of the flight are thinking when their guests, co-workers, or whatever they are traveling to, show up sick. What kind of entertainment would that be for the rest of the Thanksgiving vacationers?
My thoughts would be that traveling will just make you feel worse, & make you wish you were home in your own bed !!

Thinking about this in a more selfish way..I hope they don't catch any Russian flu hybrid strain of the H1N1 and bring it home here to the States.:worried:
on the contrary -not selfish -prayer specific -! Them & us.....:)

Skypilot's wife's facebk post this morning:
A little change in the travel plans. One more evening of preaching at Churches of Praise, and one more night in Kirvoy Rog, Ukraine. Then Monday morning they are off to Kiev. And back home on Tuesday. They get to stop ...
I hope the Ukrainian leadership doesn't decide to declare quarantine - but I guess that would be to keep everyone out, not in.....
I know they both appreciate any prayers on their mission trip !

On one of the network news stations last night..Some expert for the CDC said that most any flu cases now running through the country is basically all H1N1 strains..the regular flu is non existent right now.

We have schools in our Tri-State area close every year due to the regular flu. They've stopped testing for swine flu, due to the initial negative results and the expense of the tests. They, school systems and Health Dept, are going to count regular flu as a swine flu case, so statistics are going to be real skewed just in our area alone.

all the schools in the county here were shut down for a week. Two guys that work with me were out for awhile with confirmed cases of H1N1.
