Problem Accessing MB Today

Tom,

I'm starting to see a little bit of a slow down here and there. I have an idea. How about shutting down all none market talks starting at 30 mins to the deadline.

Anybody else thinks this would help?

I also found a big slow down here as above, today, in the same timeframe until about 1225.
I noticed the "slow down" today was dramatic - mostly in the "Member Acct. Talk" Forum - such that I got dropped off many times, although trying maybe 20 times.
Just a thought as another possible solution:
I counted the members logged-in (~40) and comparing this to the number viewing the "Member Acct. Talk" Forum alone and there were (~95) simultaneously viewing - so there was almost always about double the number of members-to-lurkers.
There were about half as many viewing other Forum threads.

Just for consideration - perhaps exclude "lurkers" - folks not logged-in or non-members, in this timeframe. Surely we don't want to discourage folks not logged-in or non-members, but prohibiting them in this timeframe might conversely encourage folks to become members, or at least log-in.

There was a server problem this morning that caused the whole site to go down for a while. I hope that is what is was and not an ongoing problem. I would not think that the number of members and lurker is an issue. This is a medium size board and we really should have the resources to handle it. But maybe not. I will keep watching. I am also watching to see if that stats box is causing a slowdown.

I really appreciate you keeping up to date on the problems.

Far be it from me to put words in Norm's mouth but I think he means the number of private messages that the MB allows us to store. I think I can have several hundred Inbox and Outbox messages saved before I get a notification that my PM stuff is full and I need to delete/move some.

And like nnuut, I probably don't need to keep that many. I just don't bother to clean out my PMs because I don't have to do it often. So if we could only have, say, half as many PM messages stored before our boxes said they were full? Would that help the system any?

Oh, I get it. That is likely taking up disk space is all. It's probably not causing any performance issues.

This is obviously not the peak time for the board, but it is running fast. I kind of got used to those stats and links to the last 10 posts, but we may have to do without them if we want the speed.

..and who is to know when you will suddenly find you have a need to f/u on how someone is doing? ...I mean, after all, with everything else that is going on, there has to be a reference to `whatever somewhere!'

I really wish I knew for sure. I remember back then we were turning them on, and turning them off. Changing the categories, etc. We had some good days some bad. It just hasn't been consistant and it's getting frustrating.
