Problem Accessing MB Today

It just hasn't been consistant and it's getting frustrating.

That's how I feel about my internet service right now. Fast and slow, up and down and it doesn't seem to matter the site.

Anyone else notice a change in your internet service the past few months?

Yes. But I don't have access to a T-1. And the neighborhood, which shares bandwidth, used to be all fuddys like me. But several of the homes that were on the sales market started renting to younger families and now I get a slow-down as soon as kids get out of school and (I assume) start playing their online games.

It's not just slow service. I'm getting busy messages, page not found, etc. Not all the time though. I never used to have this problem and it's happening on all my computers. It comes and goes. I live out in the sticks, so I don't think it's a question of bandwidth. Just something odd happening.

I'll have to call my provider later this week and see what they say.

I have COX Cable no problem on my end, fast!!! I go to TSP Talk and it won't load or is slow as dirt, back to any other site and it's fine, Tom is right it's here.

...`page not found ' was the most common, or error messages. I could have just gone to a link, then not able to get back in. We more-or-less determined it was my Internet Explorer, cuz I haven't had a recurrence when I started using Mozilla Firefox. It had come to the point I never knew if I would be able to get in to make an IFT, or get into 'talk to record it.... Desktop & Laptop.

OK, stats page is back but we're down to 3 columns: Latest posts, latest news, and latest blogs. Let's see how she runs today.

I switched to google chrome, which seemed fine when I made the switch, but even IE is giving me trouble. I just can't tell where the problem is coming from. This morning I was having a lot of trouble loading this sites web pages again. Up to 3 minutes to load a page, and then it would be fine again a minute later. ????

Same problems this morning, with and without stats. I have logs gathering all of the info that may be causing the slowdown.

Per recommendations, I made a few more adjustments to some features that are processor hogs. We'll see how it goes. Some features that you may be used to seeing may not show up like seeing alist of similar threads, or today's top poster, etc..

SO how's it working? Did they solve the issue?

We'll have to wait until the AM when traffic builds, before we know if their recommendation will help. There are a couple more things to try if it doesn't work, but at that point we have to start taking away features to gain speed.

Maybe what you need Tom is some Duct Tape.

That'll fix it.

Is there any way to count the number of page hits during that time period?

I'm being semi-serious.

I don't really want to cut down on page hits. Many larger boards don't allow some of the features we've enjoyed here, since it can be a drag on performance. We may just have bite the bullet for while as a test, and see how it goes.

Does everyone know about the "Today's Posts" link in the top menu?

Great! Sounds like things went OK this morning.

Tomorrow I may reactivate the stats box and see how it goes. Some of the other changes may have helped enough to keep things moving with the stats being active.
