The Bernanke Effect on Japanese Stocks (EWJ)
Related Stocks: EWJ

Steven Towns submits: The Nikkei finally rallied overnight in Japan but is still trading in the red on the year. Japanese stocks traded in the U.S. are having another rough day despite the turnaround in Tokyo. I’ve been wondering after all this selling where Japanese ETFs and ADRs were trading before Bernanke & Co raised rates on May 10th and where they stand now. It’s not pretty!

...thanks for that derivatives post, btw...had me reachin for my medication :)

You're not the only one. The Bank of England had to rescue the London Metals Exchange from their derivative debacle recently. I think it is still a work in progress.

I thought Brown had previously emptied the vaults with his previous sales. At least this time they got a much better price.

Hobson’s Choice for Ben Bernanke (ETFs: FXE, GLD, IEF, XHB)
Related Stocks: FXE, GLD, IEF, XHB

David Fry (ETF Digest) submits: Bernanke’s choice is to either “pause” letting the dollar and bonds fall and precious metals rise, or tighten and squeeze housing, the consumer and the economy. It seems like Hobson’s Choice but then perhaps news we don’t know about yet will offer another alternative. It seems doubtful.

Thanks cnnmoney.com.
This is really getting old! Nikkie down again!

Perhaps I'll walk away from the markets and my 100 (I) allocation then see where it leads 1 month from now.

Who knows, I may be rather surpprised to see how much I made without actively managing it???:D

That's right...come over to my world. ;)

All of my attempts to "actively manage" result in extremely minor results. (Oh, boy! I'm 0.01% higher as a result of that last bold move!) :D

I had predicted a bounce for yesterday, but instead, took a good hit. Indicators that I thought would have given us a bounce, let me down. Now I don't know what to think. I have decided to cut bait and sit in the G-fund until I see a positive trend.

Looks to me like we may be finding some bottom here. London is up good, and the fall in Nekkei is back to where it was the day before yesterday. Perhaps that means we are getting some resistance built up at these levels.

I may jump back to "I" big time to catch a bounce here. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the worst is over.....

I Fund should do very well today if the European markets hold or continue their gains. The currency portion is pretty much flat and when you net out the loss on the Nikkei, we should be alright. Good luck all.

Nikke 300 -1.56%
FTSE 100 +1.62%
CAC 40 +1.63%
DAX 30 +2.13%

The dollar looks to be a little lower.
All in all I think the I-fund could gain 20 cents.

This is shaping up rather nicely. Japan should react positively to give us another good day tomorrow.

GO (I)!

There is "I" in TEAM!

My best wishes to all who read this post. I am new to this website, but I have been reading the daily market comments for some time. This is an excellent website, which is very well suited for federal employees.

I am tracking the World Indices, currency and market fluctuations in regard to the EFA Ishares Chart with StockCharts.com, as well as the market daily fluctuations with Bloomberg's and YAHOO's financial websites, but I will appreciate it if somebody can provide me with any other useful information or website that may be of help. Can someone fill me in, as to the way Fair Value (FV) is calculated? By Barclay's I suppose?

Thanks
