Thanks for important reminder. So sad...just love soft incandescent light...I have lots but going to buy much more. Then again could always go to Mexican border for a quick day trip ( 5-6 hr drive) or try an internet buy. Still this is a bummer!! :( Remind me...who caused this to happen??

2007 George W. Bush, BUT we have an update!:D That's if You Know Who will sign it?:suspicious:
[h=1]Congress Spares Incandescent Bulbs in Victory for U.S. Tea Party[/h] By Jim Snyder Dec 17, 2011 11:08 AM ET
Congress spared the 100-watt incandescent light bulb from a government-enforced phaseout in a win for Tea Party activists over manufacturers who said they are already switching to more energy-efficient products.
Lawmakers cleared legislation today to fund the government through Sept. 30, with a provision barring the Energy Department from carrying out the elimination of the pear-shaped bulb. Groups backing small government urged Republican allies to block the requirement, calling it an example of regulatory overreach in keeping with the health-care overhaul and the Wall Street bailout.
The federal standards limit the “freedom of average Americans” to buy whatever type of bulb they wanted, Representative Michael Burgess, a Texas Republican, said yesterday in an interview before the House voted 296-121 for the bill. The Senate voted 67-32 today and sent the legislation to President Barack Obama.

A 2007 law effectively phased out incandescent bulbs starting next year by setting efficiency standards they don’t meet. They would be replaced by compact fluorescent, halogen and light-emitting diode models.

it's not the end of the world. you still have your tiki torches....don't cha?!!!

Incandescents are still in the stores here in Okinawa, but stock is usually limited. I decided about a year ago to start replacing them with LEDs, which cost about $30 a pop. They look pretty good, and are supposed to last 10 years or more. So when I move out of this place, I'm taking the light bulbs with me!!! :toung:

You will still be able to buy your refrigerator and oven 40 watt incandencents. They are considered "specialty bulbs" and will continue to be available.

And no, Nuutt- that bill which would have frozen the 2007 law and make it so that you could "buy whatever type of bulb they wanted" did not pass the Senate. Your Bloomberg article is in error. The final language that DID get approved simply prevented the government from spending any money in the Fiscal Year 2012- to STOP the sale of 100 watt incandencents.

That law expired at the end of Fiscal 2012.

The law remained in place, supported by the light bulb industry, who already has changed and invested in new manufacturing of new style bulbs- not only here, but around the world.

Yer right that article was old, Dec 17, 2011 11:08 AM ET. TOOOooooo bad I hate those curly lights and they don't last as long as advertized. Some take a long to get to full power, some have a strange yellow light but all cost too much. They need to make BIGGER LED lights, why put 12 in a flashlight, one big one would be better but would probably be dangerous.
