New Spreadsheet for 2005

The error I mentioned above is still there Tom. By putting in the instructions that you enter the last day of a trade and then the following actual day the trade takes place, you are limiting the error to cover just one days move, but the error is still there. You will see this error if you have a really big move on that day.

My opinion is that it is much cleaner to make the change I suggested and then only enter the information for the day of actual trade. The numbers are correct and you only enter once for each trade not twice.

I've found an error. I'll e-mail a correction to Tom as soon as I can but perhaps he can also fix the error. Basically the current spreadsheet multiplies gains from the previous trade by the percentages of the next trade.

Tom: example cell S7 should be (copy to bottom of column)

=((H6*M7)+(I6*N7)+(J6*O7)+(K6*P7)+(L6*Q7))

I never did like the 2003 spreadsheet and the method for entering always messed me up, which is why I created the modified version. I think it has the same error. It is only off for 1 day for each trade because you enter day before trade and day of trade. I'll e-mail you the spreadsheet as I have it tommorrow. I don't have it at home. (Yep, finally plugged back in.) Above is the change I suggest.

Just try it. For input only enter the day of actual trade and corresponding values and the new fund percentages. No double entering and no error.

Want to find out if your works well? Enter in a couple months of Namors trades and compare to his monthly summary. You will see a big difference because he day trades a bunch.

cell s7 currently =((H7*M7)+(I7*N7)+(J7*O7)+(K7*P7)+(L7*Q7))

H7 is the current fund allocation for row 7 - current trade. M7 is the percentage increase from C6 to C7 (increase for prior trade). Therefore you are multplying the current fund percentage times the percent increase for the prior trade. It continues across for each of the five funds.

I'll have to wait and see your version because I can't visualize the problem you are describing, unless we are just entering the data differently.

Thanks. I'll let you know what I discover once I get your email.

OK. I sent the spreadsheet. I also downloaded your returns and put it into my spreadsheet to see what the difference is. It fluctuated through the year and got as high a 1/4%. I now understand better how you enter data and the error was not as bad as I thought. Your input line is different than mine. Each transaction date you enter the actual date, fund prices on that date, and fund percentages that you just changed from. I enter the actual date, fund prices for that day, and the new fund percentages. I see know why you were confused by my post.

As to entering method, that is just personal preference. There is still error between the spreadsheets which concerns me. I'll look closer when I get a chance.

FundSurfer -
I started looking at your spreadsheet. I will look closer at those differences in returns but I have to say the way you have it layed out is more confusing to me :*. The return on each line is actually for the previous line. It's hard for me to follow. kind of like me putting the ending date is tough to understand.

Like I said, I am taking a look at those returns and I will postmy findings.

Thanks for your help!!

I haven't found a problem, I just Have one - :oo

I have Dec 31 prices in that first line named 2004. I have placed the Jan 3 updated share prices as instructed into line 1. But , even with the instructions in front of me concerning the Fund Allocation squares, I don't remember if Iuse my numbers for Before noon est, or After noon est for Jan 3 allotments.

So, if you please, some one please :# !!! And I thank you very much! :^

grandma,
Can you me the days you made your transactions (from Dec 31 on) if any, and tell me if it was before or after the 12 noon deadline? Also, if you'd like, tell me the allocations and I will tell you how it should look.

Thanks,
Tom
