New Spreadsheet for 2005

imported post

Good morning Tom. Good program and I will use it even though I trade in 100% blocks and make rare moves. C Fund column width needs to be expanded to 6.57.

Waiting for your valued assessment at TSPTALK on 2nd week of December.

Thanks

I'm trying to "save as" under "file", but nothing is happening...:%

Is anyone else experiencing?

I copied and pasted it to a master file where I cross share personal data. No problems. Nice worksheet:^

I figured it out... I had to right click on the LINK itself and click on "save target as".

So if anyone else experiences problems, try it that way.

Thanx Tom!:^

Thanks for the feedback! I made some minor changes to the instructions to make it more clear. Keep it coming.

Tom, how do you continue the spread sheet after 25 transactions? Or can you?

Thanks,

Also, if you look at the spreadsheet I posted, the "My returns versus the other funds" doesn't appear to be working properly.

A little cut and paste editing should work for over 25 transactions. If you need help with that let me know. I'll check out the "My Return" comparison.

Thanks!

Did you find out anything with the "my return" part or is just me?

Thanks,

Looks good on the instructions. I'll download and check your numbers. I had planned on re-arranging the columns as you had done to make it easier. On thing from the instuctions that was confusing was do you have to enter the fund prices for the day before and actual day of fund movement? Your example used Feb 9 & Feb 10. I do know that you don't need both sets of numbers for the math or you will get an error (unless you made a move the day before as well).

Thanks Tom, I know how much work can go into this kind of thing.

Sorry I haven't been active for a week, I'm in mid-move. Not much net access.

Thanks Tom, I appreciate the amount of work that goes into updating a spreadsheet like this.

The instructions look good on paper. I’ll download and check your math. (I’ve been in mid-move for the last couple weeks with little access to the net.) I did have one question. Do you have to enter the transaction fund prices for the day before and the actual day of your trade? Your example shows Feb9 and feb 10. I know that from the math standpoint, you don’t use both sets of numbers (unless you had consecutive trading days). To me that was confusing. The cleanest way to do it is to put in the data for the day your trade was effective. Anyway, I’ll look at the spreadsheet and give you some feedback.

I've found an error. I'll e-mail a correction to Tom as soon as I can but perhaps he can also fix the error. Basically the current spreadsheet multiplies gains from the previous trade by the percentages of the next trade.

Tom: example cell S7 should be (copy to bottom of column)

=((H6*M7)+(I6*N7)+(J6*O7)+(K6*P7)+(L6*Q7))

I'm not quite sure to do with cell s6 since you don't have previous percentages. Could add starting percentages on 12/31 as you did for the starting fund prices?

Also, the way you sum your annual return appears to not account for compounding properly. That may be too complicated for this spreadsheet but it does make a couple tenths of a percent difference over a year. I'll look at this a little further. (Tom - look at my spreadsheet to see how I handled this.)I think theerror will show up when you compare someone's calculated hypothetical $100,000 versus this spreadsheet. I have to think on this a little more to be sure. I seem to remember I needed to make the correction when I was checking Namors hypothetical numbers.

Wierd. Sorry for the almost duplicated post above. I posted and thought it was lost cause it wasn't showing up, so I recreated. Now it looks like I'm repeating myself.
