New rates for Health Care Plans out today

Thanks James...

My insurance increased $0.31 per pay period. Luckily, I have paid down lots of credit debt so now I have much more cash flow than last year!!!

That tax break we might get could help pay the additional cost of insurance.

Thanks James. Mine went down $22 a month. Who'd a thought that could ever happen?

Maybe I'm paranoid but we need to wait and see what they've done to us on coverages and co-pays. Could end up costing us more in the long run.:notrust:

If you combine a solid National Blue Cross "basic" plan with a premium GEHA dental and a comprehensive Vision plan (both dental/vision thru FedVIP) that combo would be a delux cadillac plan nearly unmatched anywhere...no deductibles...everything a small copay...with choice of doctors across the nation...with full medical, dental, vision. Heck, I even get 20 chiropractic visits mixed in with theraputic massage for only about 25 bucks a visit. For a Family plan this comes out to about $165 a pay period for my family (tax deductible makes my actual cost only about $110 a pay period...or about $240/month). A similar plan on the "open market" would cost you/me easily $1,500/month.
Can you reread the quotes on the website for your health plan?
My plan is $1200/month of which I pay $300 month (medical only). The employer (government) pays the rest as a benefit. Those chiropractic visits and therapuetic massages are for medical reasons.....Do you suffer from an ailment that you need to utilize these services?

So anyway, if the medical carrier offer a $1200/month plan for me, I paid $300, then I get a $900 benefit which if my employer didn't pay would mean I would have to come up with an additional $10,000 a year to cover. Now, when I was on the outside, I recieved the difference in salary. So I made extra $ but had higher expenses.

Please remember that you need to compare apples to apples in this discussion.

Feds Will Pay 6.1 Percent More Toward Health Insurance Premiums in 2018

Federal employees and retirees can expect to contribute an average of 6.1 percent more toward their health care premiums next year, the Office of Personnel Management announced Wednesday.

Enrollees in the Federal Employees Health Benefits Program with coverage only for themselves will on average pay $5.57 more per bi-weekly pay period next year. Those with full family plans will pay $12.17 more per pay period, while people in self-plus-one coverage, which is entering its third year of existence, will pay $12.55 more every two weeks.

The average increase in the government share of premiums in 2018 will be 3.2 percent, officials said. OPM’s contribution to insurance premiums is roughly 72 percent, and is based on a weighted average of the plans enrollees choose.

My joy: Discovering that my HMO will be costing $28 LESS next year per pay period.

I'll take it!

It’s been cheaper for a family than “plus one” for a while, not just this year. Most people I know that don’t have kids at home just go with family, I don’t understand why it is cheaper.

good luck!

(NOTE: Just knowing what next year's rates are going to be doesn't help just yet- You also need to know what changes are reflected in each individual plan. That will be located in the plan brouchures, which are NOT yet available. I will keep checking - and if you see the new plan brochures are out- please post in this thread and let us know. Thanks! )
