I get to stay home today. Closed NASA because of the snow storm. Near blizzard conditioins, wind gusts reported up to 45MPH, 3-6 inches on the ground with another 3-6 expected. Another long weekend. :D

Shut down WHAT, the government isn't doing a damn thing right anyway! What's happening now is their fault, not us ship builders, airplane fixers, tank repairmen, plumbers, electricians, welders, technicians etc. it's the bureaucrats that have put us in this position. Replace all of the crooks.

Damn straight, now yer talkin' !

The final chapters of the Space Shuttle Program are being written. This is the last flight of the longest flying Shuttle, Discovery. Only two more launches are scheduled this year, which will close one of the longest and most productive programs in NASA history.

Shuttle Discovery Arrives at Space Station for Final Visit

HOUSTON – NASA's shuttle Discovery linked up with the International Space Station today (Feb. 26) to make one last delivery before hanging up its wings for good.
Discovery and its six-astronaut crew docked with the space station at 2:14 p.m. EST (1914 GMT) as both spacecraft flew 220 miles (354 kilometers) above western Australia. Their arrival marked the end of a two-day orbital chase that began with the shuttle's last launch on Thursday.

A Space First: Spaceships From 4 Different Fleets Linked Together

HOUSTON – When NASA's shuttle Discovery arrived at the International Space Station Saturday (Feb. 26), it made some space history: It marked the first time ever that spaceships from four different space agencies were docked together at the same time.

Saw the launch from a causeway. Exciting and awesome as always. I'll miss being able to see these launches as the program ends. It's disappointing that we don't have a replacement ready yet. We will have to rely on the Russians for rides to the ISS until we get another system in place - Two to Five years until that happens??? The Russians have already increased the cost for flying on a Soyuz to the ISS. Capitalism is alive and well in Russia.

Or watch NASA TV :D

That would be the best choice. However, even though Cleveland has a major NASA facility right next to the airport not all the cable companies offer NASA TV. If they do it is located in their upper-tier groups. Go figure.

Wow, NASA TV. Channel 289.

Boring to some (at least in my house Lucy reruns are much more popular) but seeing actual stuff being done in space...

I was going to make a comment about whatever happened to Diet Smith's Space Coupe as a replacment for the next shuttle but searching for a drawing has got me off in to the world of NASA history and memories from long ago.

Like riding Ranger (7,8,9?) in to the moon through the miracle of TV.

Like seeing images from the Surveyor landers and speculating on what REALLY happened to Surveyor 4. (is it in some extraterrestrial museum)

Of course there were those boring old Apollo landings.

Amazing stuff for a young man.

So much for me doing anything productive today.

Dang!! Who ticked off mother nature? Friday near blizzard conditions with at least 8" of snow. Overnight huge thunderstorms (what a light show) and my rain guage shows 2.5" of rain. All that rain on top of the snow and I have water in my basement. Dang it. Global warming stinks!!!!
