THEY (sideliners) WILL. :toung:

Jumped off the lilly pad into deep water today. Bad or good something is up. 10%G, 45%C and 45%S. GL to all.

Good luck. I threw in 50% myself. Still think Q3 financial earnings are gonna blow...I'd be out a few days before those start.

Really tough decision today. Stay in the pond (with fingers crossed) or jump back on the lilly pad. I do not blame those that have. A lot of doom and gloom out there. Really debated what to do.:notrust: Not much of a profitable gambler, but finally decided to take a risk and stay put. Rally train started strong this morning and then ran into the 10 o'clock sell off. Now it has picked up a little extra steam from the lunch crowd. Let's hope the train can pull into the station at 4:30 with a profit car as it's caboose.

I found this article interesting this morning. http://seekingalpha.com/article/94415-making-cents-of-this-bear-market?source=yahoo Especially "Thesis 5". With todays market the way it is the FRTIB strategy will not work for our retirement stability. We are going to need the ability to follow the highs and lows of the market in order to stay profitable (additional IFT's or start up an ETF). Staying in one fund to long (either by not making IFT's at all or by being afraid to use the last IFT to jump to safety and maybe miss an expected rally) in this volitale market may destroy ones ability to ever retire. Two IFT's a month is forcing everyone to hunker down in the G. This includes the L funds. Hopefully the FRTIB will make some needed changes to protect our TSP.

This September is one for the books. The market couldn't have more swings than a playground. The weather has been just as strange. Who would figure that a hurricane could have such an effect in a place like Northeast Ohio.

 If you didn't have the strong stomach, you wouldn't be such a high-flier! My stomach hasn't been that strong since I hit 18. My eyes neither! Eyes? Stomach? isn't there a saying with both of those in it? :D

My stomach gets bigger (love my Alaskan Amber) but my eyes are better (thanks Lasik!!)

As of right now it looks like this bailout process has had an opposite affect on the market. Looks worse now than it did last week with all the talk going on. At this rate I may be back to where I was at the end of 2006. I hope we can we see balance within the force soon. The darkside appears to be winning.

September has been so volatile that I have stayed the coarse at 45% in C and S just hoping to break even for the month (with fingers crossed). Wanted to jump back into G, but just felt that I might get lucky.

:sick::sick::sick:

Getting spanked pretty good right now. Oh well!!!

I may have to stop visiting this MB. I really enjoyed reading everybodies take on investment and we all picked on the FRTIB. I am getting tired reading posts that have become very opinionated for or against a political party. I will be happy when this election is over.
I am against this bailout because it helps those that caused the problem. The financial institutions greed brought this on themselves. We should not have to help these institutions. Let them fail. Someone else will take their place. There was a law passed in 1933 that was working very well. But in 1998 or 1999 a republican congress and a democratic president changed the law that has brought us to where we are today.
Lets talk and continue to educate each other on how to make money. We need to focus on that and get the FRTIB to give us a better way to not loose money in this volatile market.

Nasa, first of all, I hope your were kidding with your first statement, because we'd miss you. :o Your loss to the daily conversation would create quite a hole!

I, too, am going to be glad when this divisive and conflict-ridden election is behind us. The political views on this MB span the spectrum and that's as it should be. But the reaction to current events is making blood pressure highs and taking rhetoric to an uncomfortable level here at times. Nothing anyone says here is going to change someone with a conservative mindset into a progressive or vice-versa.

Maybe you and I can just hope that political posts move to the election thread, and that we all keep our eyes on the prize: making our TSP accounts as healthy as possible, given restrictive IFT rules and a capricious financial environment!

May the force be with us all indeed!

Nasa,
It's an open forum with many homes. So you have thousands of members and visitors each bringing their opinions and usually MOST will get caught up in "the lastest fad" - whether it be the Presidential Race, Barclays, the Housing Sector, Financial Sector,FRTIB... and it goes on forever.

So the BEST WAY TO DEAL WITH THAT is expressing what you're expressing now. Let us all know YOU ARE TIRED of the Bulls*** and as long as YOU SPELL IT OUT we'll respect that and keep it out of your home. But leaving the MB means walking away from many that share your views and our Homes don't have all the clutter.

So I would say - STAY and BE A VALUABLE ADDITION - and make a point of contributing POSITIVE THINGS because that makes the site an even better place.

I really enjoyed reading everybodies take on investment and we all picked on the FRTIB. Not everyone picked on the FRTIB, and in the end the ones most outspoken came under fire. The changes we (as a group) fought so hard to prevent CAME INTO BEING and maybe somewhere down the line we'll realize the BOARD simply complied with powers over them and did their best for all concerned.

I am getting tired reading posts that have become very opinionated for or against a political party. I will be happy when this election is over.

Then go to my home, Lady's home, and many other homes that don't fool with that garbage. It doesn't take long to find the "safe places" - IF THAT'S THE MAIN THING BOTHERING YOU.

I am against this bailout because it helps those that caused the problem. The financial institutions greed brought this on themselves. We should not have to help these institutions. Let them fail. Someone else will take their place.

I will not argue with this (or even comment) - other than to say "This is your opinion". The main thing we all need to realize is that the BAILOUT will pass - regardless of what we think (right or wrong).

There was a law passed in 1933 that was working very well. But in 1998 or 1999 a republican congress and a democratic president changed the law that has brought us to where we are today.
I would simply say "Is it possible that this is one of many factors" in otherwords - IS IT possible that other circumstances are also to blame and that to point at ONE THING is unrealistic?

This seems to be a MB trait - we look at ONE THING so closely (whether it be FRTIB, Barclays, a 1998/98 Law) that we fail to see the other factors equally responible - or even more responsible.

Lets talk and continue to educate each other on how to make money. We need to focus on that and get the FRTIB to give us a better way to not loose money in this volatile market.

May the force be with us.

I agree that our ability to educate one another in how to make money and maximize the TSP should be the underlying endeavor.

But here I think you and I (and everyone else) would be a thousand times better off EXCEPTING THINGS AS THEY ARE - and making the most out of 2 IFTs a month. If we focus on the FRTIB as our enemy then the battle will never end and we'll ALL be consumed with frustration. I'd say we'd be a lot better off focusing on the Markets and the Economic Conditions and learning to make the best with what we have.

Unacceptable ! Take a step back, choose not to read the crap which
consumes certain threads and focus on those threads which helps you
achieve your goals.

On a personal note, taking a step back from this MB and the Stock Market
as a whole, has given me time to think and prioritize. Both can be extremely
addictive. But you should know that while your away from this MB, your
unique style and insightful commentary will be missed more each day. So
please allow me to be "one-way" by saying that I find your thoughts of
not "visiting this MB" as a big loss to us all. Your a good friend and would
be missed more then I can say. I'm sure that once the word takes hold
throughout this wonderful website, you'll be hearing from many who
share my thoughts and want you to stay.

More then the Biggest Drop in Dow History, this would truly create a
ripple effect in the Force that would be felt throughout our Universe.
Even Luke needed to take a break from his training on Tatueen based
on priorities. What ever your decision, the force will be with you, always.

Squalebear - You are such a BEAUTIFUL INDIVIDUAL - you certainly got the very best from Mom and Dad.

My friends. Thank you.
I have relaxed since this morning.
I am home alone. My wife and two daughters are working late this evening. So I am sitting here in front of this stupid monitor eating homemade chicken soup. :) It does seem to have a therapeutic affect.
After reading your inspiring comments I realized an error on my part. The omission of two words... "for awhile". :( My apologies.

Lady, I have no words to express my gratitude for your post except to say thank you, again. You truly deserve the "XL-ent" in front of Lady.
Steady, Your words are the calming and spiritual realities in a world out of sync. It took me a little while to understand why you are part of this MB.
SB, My mentor and Jedi Master. Thank you for showing this apprentice the true meaning of the Force.
I hope one day that I will be able to be not just a member of this MB but a friend to many and family to some.
The force is truly with the three of you.
