MrJohnRoss' Account Talk

Hot stock tip alert:

Got the "Chuck Hughes Microcap Report" in the mail the other day. Here's what it said...

"New all-natural zero-calorie Stevia sweetener now approved for use worldwide, and sales are skyrocketing! Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Kraft, Nestle... they're all on board! My advice: Get in now; this is huge! I belileve that budding U.S. grower Stevia First Inc (STVF) could pay 12 to 1 this year, sending $2,500 to over $30,000!"

Ok, so yesterday STVF was up over 27%. Bought some shares this morning at the open at $2.06. It's now trading at $2.57, up another 32% today. Thought you might want to take a look. ;)

Good luck!

Be careful with that. Those reports are just advertisements, paid by the company in said report. Read the fine print at the bottom of the email. I too have gotten emails about STVF. I did miss out on some "sweet" gains, but I feel like the stock is just getting inflated by those reports. I'd get out before the price falls off a cliff.

I agree. The same pump and dump happened with STEV. Please proceed with caution.

Thanks for the heads up. ;)

I fully realize this could be a pump and dump. The guy seems to have an impressive track record, however, caution is certainly warranted (just ask a Bernie Madoff investor, right?).

STEV hasn't collapsed to zero, but is well below it's blowoff top.

Headline: Elderly Couple in Fear Over Spike Lee Tweet ... Flee Home ... Spike Refuses to Apologize...

With Twitter and Facebook continuing to explode with posts purporting to contain the address of George Zimmerman, property records and interviews reveal that the home is actually the longtime residence of a married Florida couple, both in their 70s, who have no connection to the man who killed Trayvon Martin and are now living in fear due to erroneous reports about their connection to the shooter.

The mass dissemination of the address on Edgewater Circle in Sanford--the Florida city where Martin was shot to death last month--took flight last Friday when director Spike Lee retweeted a tweet containing Zimmerman’s purported address to his 240,000 followers.

Correction: Schwab only allows $ stops, not % stops. They both accomplish the same thing, though.

Well I called USAA about a stop on STVF, they said basically they don't typically allow stops on over the counter stocks or stocks under $10. They said most brokerages are not allowing stops on OTC stocks, but there may still be a couple out there. Assuming you have a stop in place on STVF could you please tell me which of the two brokerages you listed that you are using that allows stops on STVF? I may be opening up another account with someone else that gives me more options and flexibility because with how volatile this stock can be I would like a safety mechanism to be in place otherwise I have to be glued to watching it all day long every day.

Thank you again kind Sir!

EDIT - Now that the market is closed I am able to place a stop order. I am going to place my stop at 2.75 and adjust it daily I guess so in the end no matter what (unless my shares don't sell when the order is placed) I should make money. So maybe at the close every day I will take the current price x .85 and make that my new stop.

I placed my trade through Fidelity. Their on-line system provides trailing stop orders, but like USAA, this particular stock is too small for them to allow their automated system to execute the order. Thanks for the heads up!

One day when I get some time I'm going to do some more research into other brokerages and open another account. I know some offer free ETF trading, but I have yet to dip my toes into that so I have a lot more research and reading to do on that as well before I give that a try. Most seem to offer a free amount of trades just like USAA did, but what sucks is they expire after a couple months of opening the account...at least they did with USAA. I don't trade enough to use them all so it would be nice to find a company that gives 50 free trades or something with no expiration since that would keep me going for a while.

I set my stop up for the max of 30 days and will continue updating it here and there.

Hopefully it continues to rise because I already made over $200 in one day on it and although that is pocket change to most, to me that is a big step in one day. :)

The more I learn and know about this stuff the more I can invest down the road without feeling like I'm having a heart attack through the day. I can't thank you enough for all of your help!

Hey good buddy, I hope I helped in some small way. Would love to see it continue higher, but we shall see what tomorrow brings! ;)

It is at $2.12/share. You think we should buy back at some point, or is this a one time deal?

Well, if the stock has a similar chart pattern to it's cousin STEV, you could make a case for testing the waters if it falls below ~ $2. Let's see what today and tomorrow bring...

I overslept...these late nights have been killing me. Anyhow my stop sell sold my shares, but at $2.53...that is pretty far off from the $2.75 that I set so I lost some money ($32.40 + commission) on it. I wonder if this is just because USAA's system is slow or if it dropped so fast that it was too late once the stop kicked in.
