Just got a chance to look at the charts after today's miserable day in the market.

Unless the market can make a big comeback tomorrow, my indicators say "Go to cash".

Very busy at work, so I hope I have time tomorrow to keep track of the market, make IFT's, etc.

Good luck everyone!

S&P 500 down -4.68% this week. Now sitting at 1158.67. Anyone think we'll see 1200 again this year? I'm expecting a counter-trend rally next week, but I have my doubts about anything substantial. Perhaps we'll see a bit of a Santa Clause rally later next month.

Good luck everyone!

Dow skyrockets! Bernanke to the rescue! "Start the printing presses!" *crowd cheers... while ominous music plays...*

Just spent the last two days with my wife at the FERS retirement planning seminar. If you haven't attended, I would highly recommend you go. It will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from your three legged stool: pension, SSI, and TSP.

Good luck!

I have to agree. I went through my training about 5 years ago. Maybe it's time for a refresher since I have
18 months to eligibility.

Its never to early or late to learn. I attended the seminar and i have 19 years to go. In the back of the booklet i recieved there are a number of very interesting websites for additional info......very helpful.

Was the seminar a 1 day event?

The last one I attended, August 2009, was a 3 day program. But it was broken down 1 day for CSRS, 1 day for FERS and the last day was Financial and Tax Planning. We had Tammy Flanagan from GovExec.com talk to us. Very eye opening.

Planning to retire June 2012 if not sooner. ;)

Well, I'm still 10 years out and expect it to basically be a one legged stool by then. There will be a lot of changes in the next ten years with baby boomers retiring and pulling their money out of the market to live on. Did they tell you anything that was a complete surprize?

One legged stool would be funny if it wasn't concerning a serious subject (money).;)

Was the seminar a 1 day event?

It was a two day seminar. The main thing I learned was how the Govt pension will work. When I compare it to the CA State retirement system, it's not nearly as lucrative. Perhaps that's why the state of CA is in such a mess!

Was the seminar put on by OPM or was it one of those "outside benefits services" groups?

It was put on by an outside contractor, federal retirement seminars dot com. I thought he did a decent job, and didn't try to sell anything.
