M_M, is your new method a variation on your previous theme? (buying dips and selling peaks) Just a more aggressive version? I only looked at the first year so far (getting late) but it looks like you added some twist that had to do with bailing out after a couple bad days and getting back in after a recent sell after a gain if the market keeps going up? Hope I'm not too confusing, I'm still new to the language of being an active trader. This strategy is what helps your former system with longer bull/bear markets. Are you still using a target for gain after a buy or just waiting for the short term indicator to turn?

Very good FundSurfer, you're learning. Now don't give away too much will ya? LOL

Yep, still buying dips and selling peaks. The only time it may hurt ya is in long term bull markets. A little anyway. But hey, I'll take 37% as opposed to 42% as long as I'm beating it hands down the rest of the time.

Take care and good luck,

Going 100% F fund today to correct my earlier mistake. I hate to admit it, but MT was right, we are currently in a short bear market. Long term and intermediate are still bullish, but not right now.

Good luck alll...............
Hmmm, just went into my account to switch back to S and apparently my switch to F fund never took place!!! Ummm should I thank TSP or be pissed?

I won't count this towards my gains for the year since it was an assident. ;)

Hey mlk_man:

Did you receive the email confirmation of the switch and it never happened?

I would be concerned if that happened to me, whether or not it worked out in my favor. It would tell me that the TSP website is unreliable. And it would definitely be something to report, maybe to your Congressman, because Congress grilled TSP when they did not have the process in place on their original schedule. Perhaps it's time for them to re-visit TSP and see if there are any more problems.

Hmmm, I really don't re-call, I usually just delete them. I won't from now on though.

Thanks

And by the way that "system" that gave you the insight to get in the F fund... smooth move. Those kind of "systems" are the ones we all are clamoring for here. I have a "system" for your "system" Mine is called the sewer system and your "system" qualifies.

Keep on tweakin.....and refining........and noodling.......and revising.......and changing.......and.........

Okay kids here it is. I'm done with my "newest" system and I think I give up after this lastest "tweaking". Of course, why shouldn't I? LOL I've back tested 3 years so far and will post my results in a sec.

Before I do I just wanted to thank all of the nay-sayers. You provided me with the drive to get this done. It certainly hasn't been easy. Luckily I'm very laid back and stress doesn't get to me much. Plus it helps being a "numbers" guy. This is pretty complex system, but it works. I know some say emotion gets in the way when you back test, but hey, proof is in the pudding. I'll continue to post my moves for several more months to show you how well. After that, well, we'll see.

A quick note to Joel, take a vacation my man. I didn't really think your post on another board was appropiate considering the time and energy I've spent trying to help you out. You're the only one who knew about my previous system which worked great except in the bear market of 2002. But even so, it out-performed the market. That caused me to get to work on another system that would work in ANY market. And now I have it. You really shouldn't have given up on me, but hey, you're loss my friend. Good luck to you................

Okay here are my results for the last three years:

2004 - Buy and Hold: 8.88% My Return: 34.15%

2003 - Buy and Hold: 42.26% My Return: 50.33%

2002 - Buy and Hold: -18.84% My Return: Drum roll please..........24.83% !!!

3-year average return for Buy and Hold: 10.77%

3-year average return for me: 36.44%

Not too bad for a "system" that some think doesn't or can't work..............

But like I said, the "nay-sayers" are sure to start saying nay, I'll just ignore them for now. For how long remains to be seen. I do have feelings you know..... :P

Well, I'm a happy camper. Retirement by 50 is lookin' goooooooooooooood.

Good luck all,

M_M

Remember Joel, the milkman still delivers in my world.........:^

Mike,

I took your advice. . . I'm going to Ohio for 3 days, yes-Florida to Ohio in Novemeber. . . a brilliant move.

By the way, you never told us what the new system is telling you right now (in or out, what fund, etc.) Thanks in advance for your answer and your service to this board.

Joel

PS-look for an e-mail

Just a quick comment milk_man. One of my very first post was to tell you that your original system would not work well in a steady trending market up or down but would work well in the choppy market we saw this year. (Hey, I know I'm still green at this but I was quite pleased with myself for making that point early on.)

One thing about a system is that it takes emotion and current events out of the equation. In your systems case, it is very go with the flow which I think if you are diligent that you will see very good returns. I'm a numbers guy as well and I was using a variant of your system before getting to this board except yours was much better defined. I think that if you add some current events to your decision making process you will do even better.

Why S 100% and not spread some money into C & I? Did they not give a buy signal as well?

Hi Fund, I actually quit following the C and I funds lately, too much "other" stuff to follow right now and I'm just a "simple" Texan.

I did post not too long ago that I should probably get into the C fund but my private IRA funds track the Nasdaq which more closely follows what the S fund does. This allows me to kill two birds with one stone. As others have stated, the I fund just has too many varibles to deal with. I will probably punch in the C numbers as soon as I finish back testing the S a few more years. It might even work better since it's not as volatile as the S fund. IF you've followed me for awhile, you know that the C and S "generally" follow each other and the I tends to either move ahead or lag behind. But basically, and I'm talking about this year, they all pretty much seem to follow the same trend.

I'm in this for the long haul, so I'm not really in any immediate hurry. Heck, if your getting the returns I'm getting, would you switch? I do believe the S outperformed the others today. I just hope the S does what Rod suggested it might with the impending rate hike. We'll see.........

Whatsa wuck,

M_M

Anyone hear form tsptakedown lately? Wonder if he's still in G..................:'

I'm curious to see this system as well. If nothing else, I could at least test it out with hypothetical trading for the next several months and see what happens.

So sorry, not giving out my system this time. Too much "flack" in the past. What's anyone done for me?

Like I said, I'll let folks track me for awhile to actually see my system at work. After that, perhaps we can come to some agreement. People seem to want, want, want. Guess some posters are turning me into a non-trusting fellow...........

Even some of my friends and family don't trust me. Go figure.........The ones that do are quite happy and will be even happier in the not too distant future.

Take my advice, do what I do.....

You put your left foot in, you take your left foot out, you put your left foot in and you shake it all about..........................

Oh BTW, my system is telling to get out S right now. Effective at the end of the day I'll be 100% G.

Good Luck
