Yesterday Tom wrote in his commentary:
" If this downside break takes us (the S&P 500) below the 840-850 area, based on the technical analysis of a wedge pattern, we can comfortably make a downside target of somewhere between 755 and 800."

Currently, the S&P is at 827.

Today the I-fund closed at $12.09. On the last day of 2007, the I-fund was at $24.76. So far the year, the I-fund has lost 51.1% of its value. :( :suspicious:

Re: Greg's Account Talk

I just went 100% C-fund. I'm gambling. Plan in stay in until next Friday the 28th, unless I get out before then.

Man, I wish I could be doing that! Nice move. Even if it goes down from here, you are buying in much lower than it was on Nov 5.

Re: Greg's Account Talk

Going 50%G 50%C today COB.

I just put in an IFT to go 75%G and 25%C effective tomorrow COB.

I did not realize that a person can make multiple IFTs a month as long as you are moving a percentage to G-fund from the other funds.

Re: Greg's Account Talk

25NOV2008

  • The Dow gained ground, building on an 890-point advance over the prior two trading days.
  • The government's US$800 billion plan to thaw credit markets helped investors look past disappointing economic data
  • Congressional leaders said they would reconvene on 2 December if the carmakers offered a viable and sustainable plan to avoid bankruptcy
  • State of New Jersey Is Insolvent
  • S&P 500 Crash Count Compared To Nikkei Index
    • The period from 1990 to 2000 has often been called "Japan's Lost Decade". It's now just a year away from becoming two lost decades. And except for one brief point in 2003, The Japanese stock market is lower than it has been at any time in the last 25 years dating all the way back to 1983.
    • In 1990 the Nikkei peaked at 38,900. It is sitting at 8,438 as I type. After 19 years of ups and downs including one big rally of 140%, the Nikkei is down a whopping 78%!
    • Someone buying the S&P 500 in 2000 is down 40% nine years later.

Alcoa (AA) closed out the day at $10.48 up $0.78 - never discount the power of dividends.

Re: Greg's Account Talk

Thanks you are correct - that means I got more shares with yesterdays price. I think Nov. 5th is actually the date of record. My Merrill account reported the dividend was delivered yesterday.

Am I not correct that a stock's price generally drops by the amount of the dividend at the beginning of the day after it is paid?

Re: Greg's Account Talk

Hi, it's me again. My Alcoa dividend was reinvested at $9.4390 and that was on the 25th. They may have made the purchase early in the morning because on the 26th it was up $0.78 to $10.48. I'll collect my next dividend in another few months (3). I checked back and my recent open market buy in prices were: $12.27, $10.32, and 9.37. This stock is a good infrastructure play so I'll be adding to my positions on the way up probably through the teens at least.

From Kirk - "Kirk is greatful for the great bear market and crash of 2008. This has already set the stage for amazing investment opportunities that will make anything we've seen over the past ten years pale by comparison." He said it not me, but I certainly agree.
