Market Talk / Dec. 10 - 16

C still needs a bump to get to new highs. I was waiting too, and shifted gears too early. Should have been patient when broke thru 1415. 100 points or so away. Staying in I for now though. Go bulls! Be careful with C, seems like shortterm hiccup real soon. Hope I'm wrong.

The closing paragraph say a bunch:
"As for the Da Boyz, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. That’s our philosophy. They’ve been the beneficiaries of a boatload of cash from the government to keep things well oiled through the holidays. It’s scary and controversial stuff that the mainstream financial media hasn’t written a bit about. I wonder why?"

Sometimes there is more action going on under the table then on top of the table........:D

Thanks for the link. I saved it to my favorites. As noted, "While the big boys play, retail cash-flows are strangely missing. It’s often thought that when retail commits to the market, that’s the time to exit. [As if this hour, I only have last week’s numbers, but that should give you the idea of who’s in charge of this market.]"

You TSPtalk guys with more trading experience, please keep monitoring the relationship of this FED liquidity-driven rally vs. other indicators, so that we can make an approximate/reasoned judgment to try to benefit from knowing when a drying-up of funds might precipitate the pullback!?

08:01 am : S&P futures vs fair value: -0.2. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +3.0. The futures market suggests stocks will stand their ground at the start of trading, and perhaps even add to yesterday's gains by a modest amount. The CPI report at the bottom of the hour, though, has the potential to spark a sentiment shift. Economists are expecting a 0.2% increase in both total and core-CPI.

08:38 am : S&P futures vs fair value: +6.2. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +18.0. Stock futures get pumped up following a friendlier than expected CPI report that showed unchanged readings for both total and core-CPI versus expectations for a 0.2% gain in each segment. The year-over-year rate in core-CPI dipped to 2.6% from 2.7%. The data provide an encouraging read for Fed watchers, as they will contribute to the view that inflation is being contained and that the FOMC can embrace the option of cutting rates with less concern than before. The dollar has weakened in the wake of the report while Treasuries have gained ground across the yield curve.

The best of all worlds, at least for a short time -- especially good today for the I-fund with the USD declining!

09:18 am : S&P futures vs fair value: +6.0. Nasdaq futures vs fair value: +16.5. The latest government report showed Industrial Production up 0.2% in November versus an expectation for unchanged. Capacity Utilization, meanwhile, held steady at 81.8% (consensus 82.1%). The data won't do anything to disrupt the bullish bias as they fit neatly with the soft landing scenario

I can't open my chart service. Is anyone else having trouble accessing StockCharts.com?

Alright bulls - let's show'em some character and buy this last hour. Make'em pay to play. There is so much fear it's down right classic - have you noticed that GE is leading today. When is the last time that has happened. Snort.

Wondering if the sp500 will be taken down to 1420 for options expiration?

Too many call options - they're all happy to keep it up and watch the slaughter of the bears begin. Get your candy treats before the fun starts. I hope they rip'em all a new one.

Well it looks like the leaders pulled back today.
Yesterday they were 75% Bullish.
Today they retraced to 53% Bullish.

Spaf,

Are you talking about our members? If you are some of them are so fickel. They fall in and out of amore over night like teenagers. Too emotional.
