Mapper's Account Talk

South Coast -- rainy but good surf. Writing while staying at Timberline Lodge? Must have been pretty lucrative!

No, I was student and I used the desks/tables in the rotunda area, camped out in the parking lot ski-bum/climber's style. Became good friend's with the bar tender and he kept my coffee cup full. I stayed w/ a friend in Bend used the Community College and City library as my office.

Love the South Coast and wish I had surfed more while there. Try to get there once/year. Love seeing the seals out w/ you, just don't overthink what is likely hunting for them under the surface! I mostly play in the mts. but really miss the ocean access. Speaking of outstanding access opportunities the public coastline in OR is fantastic...saw more bald eagles on the OR coast than anywhere else.

Nice! Occasionally see Golden Eagles here too -- not often though. There are lots of bald eagles in the area. But if you really want to see balds, go to McDonald Creek/Lake at Glacier NP in mid-to-late October -- hundreds of them feeding on spawned salmon drifting in the creek. At least there were in the late 70s.

Lots of people like to post videos, not sure how but here's a link. I've been talking a bit about outdoors pursuits. Frequently, especially in winter I get caught in some pretty nasty, sometimes scary mountain storms. Every time that happens I cinch everything up and turn directly into wind for a moment to just enjoy that I'm out, exposed and experiencing all of it. Had a similar thought when I decided to stay in the market this morning, cheesy by comparison. But the same song always going through my head at those times. Here it is for today...especially since it's "Friday" in market terms:

Only been in UT a little over 2 years. Haven't been to Goblin Valley yet, but on the list. Made it to Escalante for the first time this spring. Lot of fun stuff and need to return for some real canyoneering, not many places have slot canyons, something I need to experience while I'm here.

Turned out to be a good weekend to get some spring skiing in. Had an early dawn patrol up Little Superior on Saturday descending just after sunrise :toung: finished off with breakfast and the rest of the morning at Alta and skied Baldy summit via main chute for the first time! Icy at the entrance but amazing in the chute. Actually got a lot of good snow on Friday but temps these days eat it up quick. Lazy Sunday taking care of some minor projects in town, hiking red butte w/ the dog and charcoal BBQ w/ the neighbors. I miss the ocean but sure love the mt. opportunities here.

Back to business now, going to be a brutal morning. At least the sun's out!

Morning folks, been staying away because I'm trying to sit on my hands and remain patient. I'm still long in TSP and ETFs (TNA).

My feeling is that we'll recover a good chunk of the drop (in a bounce) and selling at this level is a mistake. On the flip side, I felt the same way end of last week and sure wish I would have sold then so I could buy back now. Oh well, nature of the game. If we see a move back up I MAY add to my TNA ong positions to reduce my cost basis. I can add as much as 40% (share #s) to my position if I want. My current TNA cost basis is $62.15, even if I add another 40% to my position at $54.00 my cost will only drop to 59.82 so I'm not convinced it's worth the added risk. That money could be deployed in other ways if we keep sinking.

My big concern is the flattening we saw before the last 5 down days. If we get a solid bounce I may just move to cash (take my lumps) and look for further directional confirmation.

Still holding long and strong for now.

Dangit, I just can't help myself sometimes.

Decided to split the difference and added 20% (# of shares) to my TNA position at $53.94. Risk was already on, now it's just on a tad bit more. :)

New cost basis is $60.78. Ok, let's see some green!

A year ago I would think paying $310 for one share of AAPL would be too much, but I bee wrong.

Indeed, I sold AAPL last year when it was stuck around $350 . JNJ has a more stable price history but if the market continues to rally it too will go up. It's a relatively safe stock, meaning you aren't likely to make a mint on it nor are you likely to lose too much, but it should provide consistent dividends. Getting a good entry is always nice. I already own a bunch and if it dropped to the 62-63 level I'd buy more.

Interesting side note. We're making the push higher today without AAPL. I think I heard Apple reports on April 24th. I'll go on limb and say the new Ipad brought them some sales.
