Mapper's Account Talk

I keep buying this sucker down. Another TNA purchase earlier at $61.07. Position is now getting back into a sizeable range. Cost basis sits at 62.76. As my position size grows, my "nibbles" are obviously less effective at lowering the cost. Hopefully this is the last nibble I need to make.

The action this morning may be considered weak but the Major Indexes are green almost completely across the board. That's a positive sign in my book. Only sticking point is the NASDAQ and AAPL (a big part of NASDAQ) seems to have hit some headwind. Honestly, I've been worrying about this given the parabolic rise AAPL has had recently. If AAPL begins a major correction it could really start to cause problems for the market as a whole.

Tricky day. I'm staying in for the weekend. My TSP has been in for most of the 2012 bullish move, I've done well so I can take the chance that we push higher. If we drop instead I risk losing some profit but, for now, that's OK with me.

The climb up the wall of worry seems to be meeting serious resistance. I'm not making any moves yet, but expressing some concern.

Last week I was buying into lower prices. As of this morning my finger is more worried about whether or not I should be selling.

Dow getting beat back in this later afternoon action but Small Caps and Transports seem to be hanging tough. I think that is a good sign.

I don't think there are a whole lot of Westerners on the board here and I don't hear much outdoors talk. Despite being temporarily trapped in an office I'm an outdoorsman at heart and spend almost all of my free time in the open air. So I thought I'd share this post about a somewhat nefarious group, Sportsmen for Fish and Wildlife (SFW), that has been increasingly showing up on my radar. If you're an outdoorsman or actual Sportsman, you should keep tabs on what's going on behind the scenes.

Since you are an outdoors man, you should check out Duck Dynasty on A&E. It is hilarious. It's about a bunch of rednecks in Louisiana that own a multi million dollar duck call manufacturing business. If you have Time Warner, you can see the episodes on Primetime on Demand.

Thanks, I'll keep my eye out for that, but the problem is I'm really outdoors so I'm not usually around a TV :D...I get too much damn time staring at a screen at work!

Wheee!!

Sticky pants on, for now. :worried:

Should have sold my ETFs yesterday. But, I didn't, so now looking for a bounce. may add a little bit to reduce cost basis.

Transports, which were lagging on the last small move up, are also holding relatively steady on this drop. I see that as a good sign.

I'm a westerner, I'm probably working within 5 mile of you. Your military right?

Wow. Thanks for posting that Mapper. Teddy R was a great outdoorsman and President. He was key in forming the Forest Service and was a big supporter and promoter of our national park system. We have our western public land heritage and outdoor opportunities largely because of his leadership. Groups like the SFW want to replicate European systems of feudal privilege wherein only the wealthy have relatively free access to hunting, fishing and ther outdoor opportunities -- but especially hunting-fishing. Frankly, they are only representative of what I see as the controlling powers in right-wing conservative politics nationally today. For the average person, they are wolves in sheeps clothing and most people don't really recognize that. My two cents anyway. Again, thanks for sharing -- that's eye-opening.

Yes indeed the American approach to public lands and public access to wildlife, hunting and fishing privileges is dramatically different, rather egalitarian and SUCCESSFUL. This is definitely a situation where access for the average American has been and is becoming more and more jeopardized. I think this goes far beyond the basic conservative/right wing way of thinking about hunting and fishing access. I know plenty otherwise conservative sportsmen who do not like to access to tags and lands further limited. We need to watch out because frequently the change to a more fee-based system with dramatically increased fees comes as a result of budget cuts. I work under the USDA umbrella and though my position, digital mapping, is growing and quite safe, the agency funding cuts are coming fast and hard.

Amen to that! Interestingly and for the good frankly, BLM and Forest Service have in some locations been unable to appoint and convene Recreation Advisory Committees because they can't find people interested in serving on them. Any changes (increases, new fees, etc.) in recreation access and use fees have to be approved by the regional RACs before they can be implemented. Almost everyone's opposed!

I<3TDs :D

Actually, I'm civilian currently wasting away in the concrete jungle...err desert. If I remember correctly from a prior post you are up north at/near Hill or ATK?

I've been meaning to tell you I love the avatar. I currently have a 3.5 y/old malamute and my past best friends have included a husky/mal mix and seppala husky (both crossed the bridge this winter w/in a couple months :()...all amazing dogs. But all providing major headaches at times

And Khotso. Where, roughly, in OR are you. I'm trying to make my way back to Bend. Going to start looking for FS/BLM positions soon. Did my grad work at OSU and spent the last winter writing in Bend. And at Timberline Lodge, great place to use as a temp office!!

Things are looking bad out there, I'm getting skeered. Might be time to eject and wait for a better re-entry. For many weeks I've been saying more risk out than in. I don't think that applies right now....I definitely feel more risk in than out.

Come on buyers, prove me wrong.

South Coast -- rainy but good surf. Writing while staying at Timberline Lodge? Must have been pretty lucrative!

Mapper & Khotso, I liked your "Western" discussion. I took am lifelong Westerner (Mostly WA-state, but lived years in NM, Colorado, Idaho & Calif. -- +3yrs in TX who thinks they're West sometime but not really in my book). I also strongly value our Outdoors and public lands. So, my hat is off to you. Both UTAH & OR. are wonderful, beautiful places, so enjoy.
