kar crazy's Account Talk

speaking of snap on, I think they are the one a 3/8 socket fits a small block timing cover perfect , where a craftman's (most of my tools) will not fit , the cover too fat , well till the bench grinder came out :D

If I remember correctly kar crazy you are correct about that 3/8 socket. Snap On made elegant tools. I just didn’t want to be in debt to ol Stan the Snap On man. Most of mine were Craftsman. A few specialty things I bought from Snap On. Too many of my coworkers were making too many weekly payments to Stan.

The local Sears store was really good about replacing tools under the life time guarantee. War story warning. A friend and I used to trade weekend work for stall time at a local garage. One day we came upon a really stubborn small block Chevy head bolt. (5/8?, not sure that was a long time and different life ago) Half inch drive impact wrench comes out and we end up splitting five standard Craftsman sockets. One belonged to the garage owner. He told us to get ourselves to Sears and get his socket replaced plus buy him an impact socket that size. Sears tool department guy actually replaced all five for free and discounted the impact socket. When we got back to the garage the owner asked for his new sockets and ground the impact one so it would fit on the head bolt. That bolt eventually came out.

Just some old memories that came floating to my conscious mind.

And she is a looker!!:notworthy::notworthy:
Those Garage Door springs can be dangerous to replace. I did it but it was freaky.

Norm you are braver than me , when that thing broke , it sounded like a gun going off

When you get the new one installed make sure to spray it with WD40 or other light oil every year, stops the rust and pitting. Spring steel is strong but brittle and one little pit can make it go BANG! Tightening it was HAIRY!!
That reminds me I will spray mine today, 2 doors on my garage!!:D
