jpcavin's Account Talk

I was just an Air Force recruiter for four years so I will provide some clarification/confirmation for you all. :)

As you all have discovered, no one wears rank in basic training, but they are paid their actual rank. I believe it is for several reasons. One being if the person fails to complete basic training their uniforms go back to the Air Force (except for stuff they cannot reuse like underwear, socks, pt uniforms, etc.). Second, if the dorm chief/element leaders are an E-1 and people were wearing E-2 or E-3 that could cause issues where the E-2/E-3 would be like no I don't have to listen to you because I outrank you, etc.

People that leave BMT without rank, but joined for six years will receive E-3 after completion of technical training or after 20 weeks of technical training, whichever comes first.

Congrats to your son and you. You seem very proud which is always a great thing! Take care all.

There is a tendency for the dollar to remain week after QEs and Super Mario is ready to spend some money. I'm going to hold my 80% I fund until at least a price of $23. Then I may move 10% to my C fund allocation. Remember this market can turn on a dime in either direction - my preference is for a strong meltup.

The water's fine Judy, been here since Friday. Unusual for me tho, the I fund has been wicked for some time now. Hopefully with all the drama behind us, it will once again shine.

I got cold feet and then they warmed up again. :D Not sure why I did this. But will stick it out as long as I have to. If BigJohn did, so can I.

Glad to see you back. Your patience is commendable. :)

Thanks. A few years ago I found myself in a similar situation, after moving into stocks the share prices fell off a cliff; in some ways it made the decision to stay in that much easier. I dont have a real feel for what the market, the economy, our government, the election will do over the next few months. My old method of buying in on a big down early morning is tempting, but having sat on the sideline so long my inclination to dive right back in is rather low. I will probably sit back and see how things go for the next couple of weeks, focusing especially on big pre-deadline moves in the market.

Fingers are crossed and I have an IFT in my pocket!

I just read about the IFT controversy on the AT and would like to comment from my experience. Please don't hijack my thread.

I've only had one IFT this month but the AT reflects 2. Why? Because when I inputed my allocation into the AT I goofed up and my fat fingers inputed 3% in the S column vice the C column. I requested to have it corrected but it was either overlooked or I didn't request it in time. The next day, I inputed another IFT into the AT to reflect what it should have been. My real TSP account has 1 IFT even though the tracker reflects 2. If I moved to another fund and then to G, the AT would reflect 4 IFTs for me.

I've also seen a few people redistribute their allocation to account for their monthly or bi-weekly contributions. How about those that move 1%? That would give you several more IFTs. Things are not always what they seem....

If you are taking the contest and the cup into consideration, I can see where more than 3 IFTs can look questionable. On the other hand, if you want an accurate reflection of how someone is actually invested, there has to be room for correcting human error such as typos. Watching and learning how others allocate their money is more important than winning a contest on the AT. JMHO.

I think I made 7 IFTs in one month this year. Started in stocks, sold, bought back, then made a couple incremental moves to G, and a few <1% moves. All moves were made legally in my actual TSP account. Yep, it can happen.

Oops, am I hijacking? :embarrest:

Not at all! Don't mind good discussion. Just didn't want people to get into a brawl about it. ;)
