Hope your winnings covers the cost of your car...if it doesn't, atleast you're unhurt. Gotta look for that silver lining.

Not even close. I got the estimate today. $3125!
I'll go the insurance route - $500 deductable. Still a lot of money.
(Now would be a great time for you TSPLookup users to send me some money! Please! )

Believe it or not - I hit ANOTHER DEER! I was on the same highway and was on the lookout this time. And driving slower. Really watching. And this damn deer came out of NOWHERE! Stop the insanity!

Jay, last year I hit 3 deer on the same road. I had always taken the short cut road, a county road from my house to work, about 35 miles, instead of the regular route, which turns out is only about 40 miles. There is a 2 mile stretch where the deer are heavily populated in wooded areas. Sometimes, I had seen large herds (10 or 12) crossing the road. Many times, the deer woud be running up the road (in the ditch) beside me.

Finally I learned my lesson and quit going the short cut. In the last few years, there have been some serious accidents in South GA from deer-hitting. A teenager got his eye put out by a hoof. A family was killed when the deer came in the car, in another case.

Actually, I didn't hit any of those deer. They hit me, in the side, they just jumped out and hit me.

The deer was probably headed to supper somewhere.

3 deer enter retirement home

Hoof prints in the mulch and flower beds, a bent railing, and traces of glass were the only visual reminders left behind after three deer took a stroll through an Adams County retirement home Wednesday morning.

At about 10:30 a.m., three deer entered the west entrance of the Cross Keys Village – The Brethren Home Community through an automatic door and wandered through several hallways before leaving, said Frank Buhrman, director of communications and public relations.

"It was over quickly. We're just extraordinarily fortunate it was without incident," Buhrman said.

Once inside, two of the deer went one direction while the other animal went the opposite direction.

The pair of deer walked through a hallway until encountering several people who steered them toward another automatic door at the loading dock area, Buhrman said.

The third deer traveled down a hall toward the center's church and activity facility and eventually broke through a small window made of safety glass, he said. He said it ran around a partially-enclosed area for awhile before going through a railing and falling down a stairwell into the basement, but the deer got back up and ran off.

"As far as we know, the deer all left the facility without injury," Buhrman said.

He said no one was injured and there was no damage other than the broken window, which was expected to be fixed by early afternoon Wednesday.

The deer's visit only lasted about 10 minutes, but Buhrman said it made for some interesting stories the rest of the day.

Staff and visitors were joking about it a short time later, and some staff members were even wearing fake antlers.

Buhrman said he later saw one of the deer after it exited because it came around to the main entrance of the building outside a window where he was in a meeting at the time, not knowing it had already been inside.

"We do accept walk-ins, but this isn't our norm," Buhrman joked

Kamikaze deer trying to take back their homeland. lol When I worked nights I had all the crossings memorized. I would start honking my horn about a quarter mile before I got to each one during the rutting season.

Yep, I hit two within two weeks with different cars not 100 yards from my house. I lived in the sticks in SC at the time. Messed up my truck and my car. New hood grill and bumper on the car, the truck did better but was still damaged. I did end up with venison in the freezer though.:suspicious: :toung:

I'm a "city boy." I've been driving for 40 years and may have seen five deer on the side of the road in my entire life. I always thought... "if I ever see a deer in the road I'll just brake or drive around it." As you all seem to already know - and I know now - it just doesn't happen that way! These deer appear out of nowhere.

I put my car in the body shop this morning. The additional damage just sort of "blends in" with the original damage. The body shop manager said he'd fix it just the same without any more cost.

I will not be driving the rental car on that section of that highway! :suspicious:

Being in the country, they graze in the yard like cattle. As far as hitting them, a pack of them were crossing the road early one morning and I still have the dent in my drivers side door, where one of the deer ran into the side of my truck and the truck was at a dead stop

History will show that when a deer hits the side of a truck at a dead stop early in the morning it is due to a party hangover from the night before. :D

I got my car back today! :) I went to get it this past Friday but found it not to my satisfaction. Some clearcoat drips, one foglight bulb not working... a few minor details. It's all in the details!

There was no structural or engine damage. Even the front crash bar was unmarked. Just a new fender, headlight, hood and bumper cover, some paint... viola! The front end is brand new and it looks it!

i have a run or two in my clear coat but i cant complain since i did the painting:D but i am going to use a little more Bondo tonight on the bed of the truck i dented cant blame this one on my girl so far i spent 1000.oo on paint grill fenders headlights bumper and brackets , still need blinkers and bolt back together, then wet sand the whole thing 1500 grit buff to a shine:D i hope. i think the deer would have been a little cheaper the car she hit the driver had a lawyer send me a letter yesterday looks like we might have to go court to fix it:mad: i am just glad they did not get hurt too bad, i am sure the chiropracter will help clean me out,i guess the lawyer is seeing$$$

I moved fully into the C, S and I last week - the day before Trader Fred. Good call by TF! :D

With the US market mostly flat this morning I got spooked and moved 75% to the F and left 25% in the I. Now the USM is looking stronger... makes me feel pretty good about the I for tomorrow.

Otherwise... I'm going to Las Vegas Saturday for the holiday weekend. Wish me luck! :)
