I am one that believes Walmart should lead but the process needs to be subtle. Any moves by Walmart have to have reaction by the rest of the industry. They could easily crush the discount retail industry with pay/benefits increase that are not attainable by alot of companies. What would that accomplish. 1.4 Million folks get pay raises, 2 million others get laid off. The Hostess affect.
My wife works for Walmart. Decent 401K after 14 years and as of yesterday 1014 shares of Walmart Stock which in addition to her 401K match she also gets a 15% match on ASPP.
BTW she is only a department manager (by choice)

No difference in Pay and benefits. WALMART is not bashed because they are the slumlord of the industry, they are bashed because of the far reaching affect it has on the industry. Target would have far less affect.

They're just sore because Walmart is fighting against unionization...

I have to admit I don't like their anti union stance but I understand it. But I never go there anymore. I just don't like the setup. It always takes forever, the parking lot is too full, the store just feels wrong to me somehow. I like Target much better. I don't even know their union stance.

Target blows the doors off Walmart.

To my knowledge, as of the middle of 2012, Target has no unionized stores, and remains staunchly anti-union as do all discount retail stores.

"Target blows the doors off Walmart"
Walmart 120B gross profit 2012
Target 23B gross profit 2012

From an investment standpoint I own both.

Feeling the weakness today. I just watched the afternoon fadeout, and decided I'll pull the plug like many of my friends.

Moved 93% of my funds into "G" - I missed the noon deadline today, but it till take affect COB tomorrow. That's close enough I think.

Enjoying a nice small gain for January. Now it's time to rest up a bit.

Spent the week hard at work for Uncle Sam in South Korea, with our Korean government counterparts.

This morning was all meetings crafting language to document a successful work week.

This afternoon, after an amazing lunch, (pics to follow later- I ate some stuff I still do not have any idea what it was)

I walked through a beautiful 14th Century Buddist Monistary about 30 miles northwest of Daejoen.

This pair greets visitors as they enter the Buddist temple main gate. These two are about 20 feet high, and are supposed to scare away any evil spirits that are accompanying visitors to the temple.

The Magoksa Buddist Temple is a compound of about a dozen buildings, and is still in use today by Monks and open to visitors.
The national treasure history center contains many beautiful works of art.

Mogoksa Temple is now just a memory.

Now the journey home is about to begin. In a few minutes I walk downstairs, and catch a taxi to the bus station.

Three hours by bus to Incheon airport. Then wait three hours for the evening flight home.
Fifteen hours by air, then another hour and half drive ahead until I reach the place where
my beautiful wife, my son, and my two dogs await my return.

The journey begins with a single step.

But there is no place like home. There is no place like home. There is no place like home.
