Looks like winds in excess of 110 MPH for much of North Carolina is in store for Friday into Saturday.

Good luck Carolinas and Virginia.

Sheesh!
Thanx James - our prayers for all of you guys ! And your family, friends, relatives, homes, material blessings, etc!!
I hope everyone with any possibility of being touched are all packed, secured, battened down, another etc!
And that the speed of passing through would pick up and get on out of there! :notrust:

I live in Carteret county, NC. Basically where the eye is suppose to make landfall. I've lost power 22 times today. Three times while trying to type this message lol.

After Hugo in SC I had no power for 2 1/2 weeks then Georgia power came to SC and turned us back on! Thank you GA Power, neighbors helping neighbors out, I gave those guys a six pack!

nnuut, that six pack likely lasted about .75 minutes. And the on duty crew likely passed it on to an off going crew. These guys are all professionals and no matter what I may ever say due to proffessional rivalry, they are the best. There may have been some Fed employees involved in the restoral.

Linemen. (oops, linepersons) Distribution or transmission, nothing would work without them.

Next time you need to promise unlimited beer for all, free use of shower facilities and the pool.

That's down by Virginia Beach, isn't it... Stay safe...

You know, I'm wondering if a large percentage of the folks along this storm's trail aren't all government employees - considering coastal facilities, besides the naval and coast guard bases, and all the related offices, etc...
. The whole seaboard is surely amuck with us...!!

Keep reporting to us, RMI; and any of you others out there... k0nkuzh0n, too.

It was about 8:30 PM they had been working sense 5 AM and we were their last stop, they drank the beer in my front yard. They said they averaged 16 to 18 hours a day. All the way from GA to Charleston SC to help us out, people helping people. I forgot about the Hamburgers, we were cooking on the BBQ Grill for 2 1/2 weeks and it was hamburger night. No pool, 9 trees down in my yard.

0800 - Hampton Roads:
A little windy and rainy, one of the outer bands of Irene is hitting. No biggie since we have thunderstorms worse than this all the time.

Hatches are battened down :D

Hang in there RMI it will blow over before you know it. At least it's not hitting you at night, the last one I was in hit at night, gives it a new demension. max.gif

No Biggie for me. The last one I went through also hit at night. I like being able to see what is going on.

~0900 update:
We are now under a tornado warning. Lots of rain, some coming in pretty sideways, but still nothing more than that storms we get through here frequently. The difference this time is that this one is going to last 20+ hours...

Lost power momentarily, so I can see that we will probably lose power when Irene actually gets here.

Have a great day,
RMI

Not much new at 10am, except I lose DirecTV a lot, AND:

Dean, my postman, just came through... dang, that's dedication !!
I have NO interest in walking down there to check my mail, but it is impressive that they delivered with a hurrican bearing down on us.
Kudos to our mail delivery heroes !!
RMI, if you have time, you might want to reconsider - the mail has been delivered to the address on it - it is now out of the Post Office hands, & now your personal responsibility for its safety!
'course, if it is all Ad-Flyers, don't bother! No point in you blowing away along with the mailbox!
edit: I see this is an hour after your post - so it may all be moot !

No, probably just bills...

11am update:
Lots more wind/rain, satellite is out, cable internet is out.
Tornado warning still active (no train sounds yet).
Irene should get here this afternoon, so maybe it will be a quiet night :D

Just connected my MiFi, so as long as cell service continues, I can listed to streaming radio and post here.

I guess I need to break out a bluray and watch a movie.

Have a great day y'all !!

It's been a few hours...

Irene should hit in about an hour. Wind has definately picked up and it's raining pretty heavy. One of the trees in the copse 50 yards away fell, right across the street. No biggie, there's 2 ways in and out, so no blockage. Satellite is up and down, more up than down, which surprises me...

Lets see how the next few hours goes :D

This non-stop wall-to-wall tv coverage of Irene is getting a little overboard now. I just heard a reporter giving a detailed blow-by-blow description of the possible dangers of walking your dog outside after the storm has gone through.

His recommendation was to "be careful."

Hey, I didn't think of that. I ought to "be careful".

You think they are going just a tad much here?
