More specifically, the iodine pills provided non-radioactive iodine to the body where the thyroid will absorb it (if it needs it) and keep it saturated so that it won't absorb the radioactive iodine if you ingest any.
Why iodine? Mostly because iodine is a very plentiful product of the nuclear fission process and thyroid damage due to radioactivity can cause numerous problems (mainly cancer).
P.S. I am regurgitating this from memory, so please don't beat me to harshly for getting some of these points wrong. They should be fairly close.

I dont think we should be too harsh on this poster. Troll is a pretty serious accusation in the internet world.
Granted it wasnt the best "first post".
"Hi, guys" in the new member introductions would have been better
Personally, I havent much use for either Bushes or Obamas.

I am not the political type so I cannot rate presidency. However, I like Bush the person. He spoke with passion. He had empathy for the people. Obama is just a bunch of empty clatter. Just my opinion.:blink:
