Scottrade does not show how they calculate the changed basis for a wash sale.

I have determined that the Scottrade 2nd 1099B did show wash sales correctly. They break up the share quantity shown for purchase into different quantities for each purchase/sale on different dates. I had to manually associate the sales reporting for "tax lots" as they call them. All Scottrade adjustments were correct.

One confusing factor is they report "adjustments" in a separate column (but they have already made the adjustment to basis) I had been manually entering the adjustments in my taxact program. I now see that adjustment entry is not required if the reported basis after the Scottrade adjustment to basis is correct on the 1099B, which it was. I discovered this by reading the instructions for form 8949, which says if the reported basis on the 1099B is correct you do not enter code for wash sale or any adjustment amount.

Damn it Tom, I had just typed up a long response to Ebb in that other thread and lost everything when I hit "post" because you locked the thread. What a crock. Thanks for letting your pal have the last word. You could at least delete the thread..................

Just an FYI, Ebb beat my return in 2012 (by 3%), but he didn't mention that he's only beaten me once in six years after TSP changed the rules in 2008................. Over the last quarter of 2013 and first quarter of 2014 he is up 4.88% while I'm up 17.89% (the S fund was up 11.55%). Those are the facts and just the facts. The challenge is still there Ebb. Take my advice, don't accept................again.

Quote from someone on another thread:

"I'm done with folks comparing what my old system did before 2012".

Interesting, yet this person believes it is okay to brag about beating my return in 2012 (by 3%)? The facts are, this person never beat me before 2012, they didn't beat me last year and they aren't beating my returns this year either. Yet, they have the audacity to say my system is "random" in nature. There are lots of shysters out there folks, be careful....................makes you wonder why they quit being a premium service here and started their own website right when they discovered some golden elixir doesn't it?

"The new system (not the old one) based on the double/triple/quadruple patterns will beat the S&P 500 or any other system you can find. I'm serious."

This person's "new system" is up less than 9% from April 1, 2013 through Friday's close. It basically means the person who made this statement is a LIAR.............unfortunately, this happens a lot with new websites and/or services.

My new favorite. Gonna paste it on my computer to remind me to not get into confrontations with all the shysters, just keep shining.............:)

We are told to let our light shine, and if it does, we won't need to tell anybody it does. Lighthouses don't fire cannons to call attention to their shining- they just shine.

If you are relatively new here and come across someone who claims to have the greatest system ever, or if you are just interested in seeing how someone has done in the past, check out their past returns in the yearly autotracker archives. You'll have to do a little digging, but probably worth the effort. If they aren't on it, well, then they themselves are too new to know better or they just aren't accountable.

I'm going to assume that most of the folks in the Month-to-Date top 10 are members of the IT-Brigade and will deprive me of yet another coffee cup...

Sorry. :o Hey, I'm not getting one either. Once again, some students have outperformed "the teacher"..............;)

I'm at 5.55% for the year...not bad. If I only marched in step with the brigade from the beginning I would be at 8.55% or more.

We still have 8 more months.
