ezmoney's Account Talk

Since friends don't let friends buy and hold ;) I was concerned with your statement...

I'm staying the course, I've rode the roller coaster to the top and and have rode it to the middle and rode it to the bottom. I'm staying on.
But then you said...

Have to take the profits when we can get them though.

So I'm confused. Are you more prone to buy and hold - or buy low sell high?

No biggie. I just thought it would re-stimulate the perpetual debate between the two. :)

Thanks!

Yes I guess it could be confusing. Answer is both in some way or another. I have for the most part this half of the year been a buy and holder. I started out In January 100 G Fund and gradually bought back into the market Then from about some time in March maybe April I started the DCA'ing 100% into the I Fund then did an IFT 100G to 100I somewhere in there I did another IFT from 100I to 100S and just the last month changed my DCA'ing to 90% I Fund and 10% F Fund. I have played it both ways in the past when we could buy and sell as we choose and I took on a lot more risk in those years pretty much was a buy and holder mostly the I Fund but money was to be made during those years.

I have mostly been a buy and holder this past year and will see where it takes me but that doesn't mean I will continue to be a buy and holder because I'm like everyone else if I have some serious losses then I will have to consider a more conservative approach or the buy low and sell high strategy. Of course we all know that no-one can predict the market regardless of how good a financial guru one may be. I try not to get to caught up in what TV financial people say; these people and speculators can change things on a suggestion and create a mass exodus or a buying frenzy in the market place. With all that being said yes I've been a buy and holder for the most part through the years.

Thanks for the clarity. Sounds like you are a buy and holder... until you sell. :)

Good luck! We'll all need it.

Well today was a down day and a loss but I was really surprised. I was really expecting to get hammered with all the debt ceiling crisis. Still early and I'm all in; at least till Thursday if it ain't settled I may have to bail to the G Fund till this storm passes. Well I guess that would be yesterday Monday as I'm posting this Tuesday am.

Got hammered today and probably Thursday as well but I rode it to the end of the month, IFT set for Friday G 100% contributions G 100%. Didn't quite get back to my target for the year but I'm satified. Once this Debt Party is over we will see which way the wind blows and try to adjust our sails who know we might be able to make it yet, still got till December.

100% G Fund, contributions 100% G Fund. I'll probably sit tight till about the 15th of the month to let all of this play out. Not exactly sure what my allocation may be when I decide to go back in, however I will start back with my DCA'ing and haven't decided on %'s for contributions although I'm pretty sure I will be doing the I Fund and the F Funds again. Good investing to everyone. I reserve the right to change my mind my allocations and contributions depending on the markets.

Thought I would step out a bit. I did an IFT of 5% into the F fund and 90% G fund same for contributions Doing the DCA but that won't start till next payday and I could change both between now and then.

Looks like the market is giving back some of those losses. Still doing the 5% F Fund and 90% G Fund. Looking to get back in at some point don't have to get the whole pie just some of the crumbs, hope it's a lot of crumbs heeeeee! heeeeee!

Very true scout, some people think it's cool but until you see the devastation that Hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes, fires, mudslides do to peoples lives not to mention the loss of life of a family member or friend then it's not cool anymore. Markets still tricky.

The economy is reeling, and now with this hurricane it could cost in the billions if it slams all of the area's they are predicting. This could be a major set back and could possibly start the recession that so many fear since we are already trillions of dollars in debt a whammy like this could cause some serious market issues. Hurricane please turn west and disperse.

However: though we will not be able to get money out of large corporations or the federal government to start hiring: there is one source of money not tapped. Insurance companies. The will be many construction jobs short turn due to the disaster cleanup and repair/placement.

Every cloud has a silver lining.

And that will just be the beginning of more waste, fraud and abuse. Some will be winners and others will be big losers. Of course everyone will absorb the cost on their insurance regardless of where you live because the insurance companies will have to dig into their pockets so they will pass it along to the rest of the country.

EAST!

I stand corrected, I didn't even give a thought to what I posted. Anyhow it's all over and it didn't turn toward the East and head back out to sea. Branches down but the house did ok. Got up around 8:00am and started cutting and piling up limbs as well as neighbors. Lot of trees down all over and some will be without power for a week or longer. We lost power about 11:00am Saturday but they had us back up Sunday at 12 noon so we were fortunate. There were two in Pitt County that lost their life. Even with all the destruction we are very fortunate.

EZ, Glad you made it through OK! Hurricanes can be brutal. Most don't think of power outages as being a big part of the danger of bad storms but can cause fires, deaths, etc. while lines are down and also when the power comes back on. Went through one in Mobile that power was out for 11 days.

Happy to hear that everything and everyone is OK at the house ezmoney, don't get any better than that. No Electricity, means BBQ time.
