Elgallo's Retirement story

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Glad to see you back on the board. I been trying to figure where Location
36/36 121/56 is. I don't figure too good.

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Actually I'm in Monterey Ca. I have to adjust those #'s a bit. A bit pricy indeed but we have been in the area since the 50's.

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

I used a different map (the first one I found it on was actually a map of offshore wrecks and that was the closest it came to those coordinates). The one I just used gave an exact house address. I doubt it pinpointed you that accurately but this is the address without the house number it listed: Shafter Avenue, Pacific Grove(which looks to be in Monterey). When I tried this with my address, it rounded off to minutes. When I plugged in the degrees and minutes, it missed me by several neighborhoods. I went back and kept fine tuning the seconds until it pointed directly at my kitchen. :)

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Close but no cigar. PG is another small town in the area. In fact I have a friend that lives on that street!

UPDATE: Received the statement from OPM of earnings/witholding for 2012 this past Monday. TSP 1099R should show up soon.

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Still waiting for the 1099r from TSP. I did search on the TSP website for "1099r" to see if there was any info, and wouldn'tya know it, "no results found"! WTF

Good catch, Joseffan ! It's there on mine, too !

In fact, I have 2...1 for the rollover I did, and 1 for the monthly payments I got...

Stoplight...

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

I'll attempt to access my old TSP account.

However I may have a problem because I transfered all my TSP assets to Fidelity over a year ago. As I recall I attempted to access my account after the transfer, but it had been closed. If that's not the case then for sure me remembering what my password was will pose the greater problem. Hopfully a hard copy will be sent. If not........

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Spoke to a real person at TSP and was informed that the 1099r's were mailed 2-3 days ago hopfully I'll recieve mine today/tomorrow.

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

Wonder if we could leave a couple of bucks in our TSP account to keep it open so we could get copies of former balances, etc.? Anyone tried this? May not be necessary. Let us know if you are able to access your old account ElGallo. Thanks!!

Re: ElGallo's Retirement Story

I can, as I understand, access my old acct., from what I was told yesterday. I just can't remember my PW. Once I get the 1099 I'm done with any future need to access TSP. I'll let ya all know when it comes in.

Belated congrats!

Tomorrow morning will be my first day NOT back to work!

Seen early back in the thread about a 10 10 percentage, the latter being tagged if not 59 and a half on TSP withdraws. Forget which IRS booklet I read, it states that if you are at your minimum retirement age, ie, FERS Federal MRA and 30 years, no early withdraw penalty is applied.

Anyone else read up on this?

Sorry for the longhand, typing in the dark, with a 8 inch wireless keyboard with oddly laid out key mapping.

Thanks ElGallo! For those who have rolled over their TSP or 401(k)s during 2012 don't forget to enter your 1099R(s) when you prepare your tax returns. Be very careful how you enter the information on the 1099R(s) as a slight error could cause a lot of grief. You want a 100% non-taxable rollover into another tax-deferred account i.e. IRA, 401k, 403b, etc. If you use TurboTax their input has a lot of opportunities for error. They ask a lot of questions about rolling the funds into Roths. Just be Careful! I just finished mine last night and I almost missed putting my wife's rollover 1099R in.
