Listening to Dave Ramsey right now.

I got his book in 2007 after listening to him for about a month. While I have avoided the 'Beans and Rice' and 'Rice and Beans' diet I have been living like a dog for some time.

I also took BirchTree's advice and dramatically increased my contributions to TSP in the face of the 'Falling Knife' and the 'Wall of Worry'. That went against the debt snowball. But, how many times in your lifetime can you buy 'C Fund' shares for $7 bucks? By the way, the answer to that question is exactly once!!!

Anyway, the plan works.

I am looking to be debt free (excepting a 15 year mortgage) in a year or so. Then watch out. I'll be investing toward da'Boyz (Wall Street Insiders) children's college funds. Someone has to bail them out. Oh, that's right. We already did!

David, do you have a premium account? On mine, my last two trades don't show unless I log in with my username and password. Then I can see them.

I think, might be wrong, Premiums last two trades are blocked from others seeing to prevent signal stealing without paying for a premium service?

Goodbye! (Well sorta)

Well, It's been great talking to all of you and I will drop in time from time and give you a shout. I've had an eventful 6 months.

I'm a "Technician", excepted civil service. I'm not competitive civil service like most of you are. My federal employee job requires that I remain a member of the Alabama National Guard and if I can't be in the Guard anymore, I automatically lose my federal employee job.

Due to my injuries from a rocket attack in Afghanistan in 2010, the National Guard medically discharged me but that's OK. I have 28 years military service and retired as an E-9 Sergeant Major. I will start drawing that retirement in 10 years since I'm only 49.

Since I lost my Guard membership, then I automatically lost my federal employee job of 27 years but that's OK too. I am 49 years old and just got my letter from OPM that they granted me a 60% / 40% FERS disability retirement. If I had reached age 50, there would have been a large penality of sorts. I'll draw 60% of my pay for the first year then 40% of my pay every year after that until age 62; then it's recalculated for my 27 years + THE 12 YEARS THAT HAVE PAST for a total of 39%. :D

Between the FERS disability retirement and my 90% VA disability (which is non-taxable), I'll be fine as a single person. I withdrew my TSP and will close on 13.5 acres just off of Lake Guntersville in Alabama where my pontoon boat is stored. It's out in the country and joins thousands of acres of Lake Guntersville State Park property and I can walk to the lake (about a 5 minute walk from my property to the lake through the woods). I've found a nice tree to tie off my pontoon boat on. :blink: It has 2 hunting fields and 2 hunting houses. :toung:

I havent' got my first check but I only received the approval letter last week. It took about 2 months from submission to approval. I'll let you know when I actually see my first direct deposit.

Keep in touch SGM. I hope that VA pay is coming to you now. Guard rules are a mystery to me sometimes. Let us know how this whole disability retirement goes down.

Hey Evinrude (SGM) at 49 you ain't got no reason to not continue to participate on this board. Take some of that retirement money and open an online discount brokerage account and get busy. Your investment fun is just starting now that you'll have more available free time to stay on top of the money. Start your research with the manufacturer of your poontoon boat - you've got a bright horizon ahead.

Thank you very much for your service SGM. On one hand, I hate that our government is making you leave due to your situation instead of helping to get you into a job you could do; on the other, it sounds like you have a terrific piece of America to retire to. Enjoy your retirement. It sounds like you know what you want to do to keep active. Please, keep in touch with us and if you have any information on your future retirement issues that could help people on this board, we would love to hear them.

<Salute> (Sgt Majors really should be considered officers... except you're usually wizer) :cool:
