Corn and Ethanol.

Let's see, how many gallons of ethanol was produced, 4 BILLION $$$ should buy a lot of Moonshine? Then they sell it to us and we pay again + tax (that's double TAX). Such a Business, Such a business instead of growing sweet corn for human consumption they all (well many farmers) switched to ethanol corn due to the high profit margins and now sweet corn prices have surged, supply and demand you know. The other day an ear of SC cost me $.69 each----------are you kidding me! Then we can talk about FEED CORN, (not ethanol residue mush) check the price of meat! Then there is food stuffs that have corn as part of it WOW that's a bunch of stuff. This is ridiculous, Oh Lord take me home!

Oops. Sorry. That rant belongs over on Beltway.

ANYWAY- the price of corn has dropped this week- almost a dollar a bushel.

Great news for ethanol- the price of ethanol will be lower ahead.

Fill'er up on renewable ethanol, thank you.

E85!

BigAg is just big corporations.

The top 1% of receiptients of subsidiens (mostly all Big Ag corporations) received an average of $721,626 per year in subsidies.

The top 10% of those who received subsidies, received 72% of the money given out.

Like I say- there is PLENTY OF MONEY IN THIS COUNTRY.

It's all going to the richest of the rich.

We need to TAX THE HELL OUT OF THE RICH and cut them off from the subsidies, and we'd be fine. The budgets would all balance.

Quit giving me that "America- We're broke" crap.

It's simply not true. There is PLENTY OF MONEY.

It's just that right now, it's all concentrated at the very top, and we need to SHARE THE WEALTH and redistribute it.

4 BILLION DOLLARS IS LOW?
The highest on your list by a long shot!:suspicious:

big subsidies for big companies !
I think Jim is more aligned with the farmer turned ethanol producer to achieve some sort of profitability.
If you haven't watched Food, Inc., you owe it to yourself to see why beef gets contaminated with ecoli, how they tested for it, and how BigAg has a stranglehold on the average Joe farmer.

for the year 2009:

So in 2009, just over 8,000 people got Corn subsidies. Lowest number in decades. About one-TENTH of the number of people who got tobacco farm subsidies.

And the reason the number of people receiving corn subsidies was that low? Because the price of corn was up, and very little crop failed in 2009. It was a RECORD YEAR OF THE HIGHEST PRODUCTION EVER.
Why would we have a tobacco subsidy if it is such a dangerous product? We must be paying people NOT to grow it.

Corn: 8,631 @ $3,975,606,299 = $460,619.43 average per recipient
Tobacco: 59,575 @ $202,918,426 = $3,406.10 average per recipient

1/10 the number of recipients, but 20x the $$$ (aka 135x per recipient)

Hmmm
Look at all the Corn $$ spent in 2005:

Good info, how much more can we afford and it's not just this it's the cost of inflation of commodities that's killing us at the Grocery Stores, higher taxes to support Corn GAS, ah hell I could go on forever, this is not a good deal for the USA. Hey don't try and change Jim's opinion about this, that is impossible.

Hmmm

Um no.

Most of that money was spent not TO GROW CORN, but rather---
it was spent to NOT grow corn, and money to BOLSTER THE PRICE OF CORN.

That was money paid out to farmers because of LOW farm prices.

You'll also notice that the amount went DOWN the last couple of years, because now the price of corn has gone up, and we don't NEED to pay farmers price supports any more. THE FREE MARKET is now paying instead of government policy.

And the biggest single program cited in there is CROP INSURANCE. The USDA runs a crop insurance program for ALL kinds of crops. Doesn't matter if it's corn, or wheat, or sugar beets, or anything else.

If you think we shouldn't run crop insurance, fine, that's one position in the debate. You are free to advocate for that. Perhaps we should stop running crop insurance for anyone over a certain size level- like the ADM's of the world. Let the corporate shareholders take the risk for them. I agree.

But the fact that the USDA runs a crop insurance program - well, that really isn't because of ethanol.

Finally, POOLMAN:

There are only EIGHT sttations in the State of Virginia that sell E85:

Unless you bought fuel at one of those stations, it can't be E85.

No, I can tell you right now it was not E85. I would have remembered that pump. Thanks for taking the time and doing the research.

:)

Poolman-

Here is a quick summary of STIHL leaf blower purchaser reviews and problems over the last several years:

http://www.backyardboss.com/mfg_Stihl/BG55.aspx

You will notice how many of them complain about the cheap carborator failures. Many of them talk about paint INSIDE the carb failing and clogging the carb.

To me, that's a DESIGN AND MANUFACTURER problem, not a problem with running E10 fuel in it. The manufacturer should design their products to operate on the fuel that is available in the area they are selling into. If they don't, that's a problem on the manufactuer.

Poolman, this is what an E-85 pump looks like:

how-e85-ethanol-flex-fuel-works-2.jpg

and This is the handle of a typical E-85 nozzle:

21ethanol.span.jpg

I'll take a crack at it, but I'd say that most likely-

What you put in your STIHL blower probably was NOT E85.

Instead, what you probably put in your STIHL Blower was REFORMULATED GASOLINE sold at service stations that do NOT sell Flex-Fuel E85.

The EPA required changes in gasoline blends two years ago, when the outlawed MTBE. http://abclocal.go.com/kgo/story?section=news/iteam&id=7286029 MTBE caused cancer, and was banned as a fuel additive. Now Oil Companies use Ethanol at E10 levels to meet EPA requirements for Oxygenatied fuels.

It has NOTHING to do with Flex-Fuel E85, and E85 should not be blamed for your FOREIGN MANUFACTURED LEAF BLOWER (STIHL) problem.

"knuckle dragging low IQ right-wing gasoline users"

Yep that's me for sure, thanks for the recognition Jim, you need some help Dude!

Poolman - E85 is pretty clearly marked at all stations. A lot of gasoline is 10% ethanol however, which is supposed to not be a problem.

Thank You Futurestrader !,

Honestly if it is marked that well I really don't remember seeing it at the pumps but with you advice I will look every time I get gas now.

Oh and I almost forgot to say. It took the local Stihl dealer 12 day's to call me with the diagnose, 34 day's to fix after the diagnose, 46 day's to get back fixed from the first day I took it in.

I asked them what the heck is the problem ? Are you short staffed ? She answered No the backup is due to the E85 gas. I apparently was not the first one to have problems.:sick:
