College Football 2009-2010

These are 2 good football teams. As shown in the Bowl games Texas run was not easy. I believe the SEC on any given day (this season) their 2 top teams can handle anyone in the country. I was not a huge fan of the rest of the SEC but that is just my opinion (Which everyone has). If it turns into a defensive stuggle I actually believe Texas wins. I know that sounds strange, just a feeling.

Yep it does sound strange but you probably would've cleaned my clock this year with bowl picks, so I couldn't argue with you on your theory.

I won't sell Texas short because I actually like Mack Brown and his coaching. If Alabama plays within itself and sticks with what got them to the championship game, they win. If not, they can adapt and still win but they open up the door for Texas and anything can happen.

That said, I'm taking Alabama by 10 -- and I'm hoping for a good game.

Till next fall. Oh wait, it's Basketball season:D

Hey, hey, hey... there's still a little national championship game to be played (plus the Central Michigan Chippawas vs. the Troy Trojans).

Who you taking in the Longhorn/Crimson Tide (two of the five best nicknames in all of major college football -- grudgingly like the Nittany Lions [not sucking up, promise], Gamecocks and Red Raiders too) game?

The ramblin' reck found out what PSU found out during the regular season. Iowa was not overated. Great football game

Very good football game (I only got to see the second half -- the boy had a basketball game) for those who like to see smart (If you don't count Dwyer's attempted Barry Sanders impersonation that almost resulted in a safety near the end of the game), clean football.

I know the BCS was tempted to put Iowa against TCU and GT against Boise State hoping for only one undefeated at the end of the season and to validate their system but I liked that Iowa/GT game much better even if my team lost.

Still think the Big11 is overrated despite their bowl performance this year and on that we can agree to disagree. I just wish they would get one more team and have a conference championship game -- it's really a no-brainer. It would help with recruiting, it would not hurt one aspect of their performance and would silence alot of critics (like me:D). Sadly, as you have pointed out, it's all about the $.

I stand corrected. The Big 10 reigns on.

Actually the Big 12 has looked the sharpest (really depending on the NC game) followed by the Big 10, SEC and the PAC 10.
You could argue the MWC and Big East but I'm not opening that can of worms.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1899_Sewanee_Tigers_football_team

"Sewanee’s 1899 season was very successful. From October 21 through December 2, under the leadership of Coach Billy Sutter and future Football Hall of Famer captain Henry “Diddy” Seibels, the Sewanee team, officially the Tigers but nicknamed the "Iron Men," played and won twelve games, was unscored upon except for one game, outscored their opponents 322 to 10, and were champions of the South. Most of their twelve opponents, including Tennessee, Louisiana State, and Texas, are among the all-time powers in US college football. The Auburn team they beat was coached by John Heisman, after whom the Heisman Trophy is named."

In 2009, Sewanee didn't win a single game.

My apologies for not quoting the entire thing however the PAC 10 supposed snub was at the forefront in my opinion.

I don't believe the Big ten has enjoyed any kind of superior success but they will fare better than last year so I'm proud of that fact.

My hats off to Texas Tech tonite, with all the turmoil down there they are handling it better than the Bearcats, of course they are not playing Fla. either:nuts:

By the way it is not confined to the Big Ten, all of the well traveling conferences get love. It's all about the $. I don't pick'em I just watch em. I've seen such rabid fans that would say Vandy should have gotten in because of their schedule:rolleyes:

I do know this, from watching the games the big time programs better step up their recruiting program because these smaller schools are bringing in some great talent.

Original quote: I'll bet a certain Pac-10 team or two plus a couple of SEC, Big East and ACC teams very close in the rankings feel more deserving of a BCS bowl appearance than Iowa.

As a Big ten fan you know the crap I've taken over this stuff for the past few years. Please permit me to continue a while longer

Easy how you quote there WorkFE... Iowa hasn't played the ramblin' reck ... yet... :D but enjoy the Big 10's success... they've had a very good bowl season. And it looks like Penn State will have a pretty good team next year as well. I actually like a good "big 10"-type game as much as the next guy playing in bad conditions and gutting it out for every inch. (Although I secretly wish Notre Dame and Penn State had conspired to join the Big East way back when). I just despise that the Big10 gets so much love from the polls and the media every single year only to see more deserving teams get shunned. That LSU-Penn State game was good and I agree with the other posts... Is it too much to ask you to FIX YOUR DAMN FIELD!?!

Side note: I watched the High School All America game... lots of talent there but I felt like I was watching an Under Armor commercial the whole time... I guess that's the point. I saw one kid bring his english teacher to the game to announce he's going to Texas. That was pretty neat. It almost distracted me away from the massive amounts of trash talk that are apparently required to be a high school all-american.

Recruiting is more than half done by now anyway.

True and it's not like the 4 and 5 Star prospects are waiting to see where Brian Kelly lands, no disrespect he's a fine coach. I'm am sure there are some that were considering ND pretty highly but after the Weiss firing unless his replacement is Dungy they've already decided to attend or look elsewhere. JMO

Brian Kelly takes ND head coach position and leaves his kids in the dust as they compete for the Sugar Bowl. What a jerk. This exemplifies America. Me, Me, Me- It's all about me. It's all about my promotion. What difference does 2 weeks make anyway in recruiting? Why can't he coach Cincy in the Sugar Bowl? What's he afraid of hurting his reputation? ND's recruiting base is so small because they can't sign gangsta's, hoodlum's or HS dropouts and the ones who go to ND pretty much plan on going there from the gate.

Everyone thinks Kelly is going to turn ND into the Texas Longhorns. Give me a break. Notre Dame is Notre Dame. They'll get favoritism in the polls to start the season, but without Tate and Claussen, there isn't much else. He's got a high reputation to hold on to and let's hope his welcome speech isn't over-promising like Weiss's was. Weiss sealed his own coffin as soon as he signed and said, ".500 is unacceptable."

Truth of it is, ND lost a lot of close games this year. The losses to Stanford and Navy were atrocious though. As negative as I sound in the matter, I do watch most Notre Dame games, but let's not blow this team's abilities out of proportion here.

WorkFE: I agree with you on the Cincy/ND deal. Opportunity knocks, but come on. Have some ethics and finish what you started. Recruiting is more than half done by now anyway.

The kid was also disgruntled about his playing time. When a new coaching staff came to my University after a redshirt freshman year, it was pretty clear they were looking to clean house and bring in their own players. I transferred mid year, the best sports move I ever made. Maybe this kid should have done the same when things weren't working out.

I always figured, let your actions on the field do the talking for you. The coach might have had a chip on his shoulder for him at TT, or maybe the kid just wasn't too good or wasn't playing up to his abilities. Whenever Craig James is on ESPN I think, 'here we go...'. He just seems arrogant to me and meanwhile ESPN made this thing a conflict of interest. As far as I see it, locking a kid in a dark room is Texas football. At least, that's what I hear and saw from watching the movie Friday Night Lights. :toung:

I think Mike Leach (TT) got a raw deal by the influence of a rich parent...What do you guys think?

Mike Leach Details Craig James' 'Meddling' on ESPN
I coach baseball and I know all about parents like this. It's a tough situation because you don't want to blame the kid, but you'd just as soon not have them on your team because they are big distractions.

One kid we had a few years ago was such a good kid, although just an average player, was so embarrassed by his dad's complaining that he doesn't play all the time, that I think he would have preferred to quit. Sad.

Unfortunately there a lot of parents like that out there. Now when we pick kids for our team each year, the parents attitudes are considered just as much as the kid's ability. This is not a school league so if they don't make our team they can go to another.

With less than a hand full of people coming forward I believe I will hold off my opinion. I want to hear from the trainers. He gave them the reason (argueably) they were looking for.

Florida played it's best football game of the season. Cincinatti played a good second half. I don't blame the head coach for going to ND, but I do blame ND (No Respect), the coach (Classless) and NCAA (No Leadership) alowing it before their bowl game.
Would not have made a difference in the game.

I just hope the Gators win over the Bearcats....I'd hate to see Tebow break down and cry again
crybaby2.gif
...20 point lead right now in the 3rd.....Good chance that he won't.:D
