Buster's Account Talk

I can't wait to move to the dry heat..it's been more humid here than I've ever seen it..Feels like Houston..heat indexs in the 105's with ambient temps around 95..worst summer for humidity ever in the 18 years I've been here.

Hi Buster, thought I'd drop by and comment on your coment from the Trivia thread.

It has been really miserable here the last week or so. Yesterday the temperature got to 115 and though the relative humidity was only about 20% it still feels real sticky. The heat index was about 121.

If you go to http://www.wunderground.com/weather...electedState=AZ&selectedCountry=United+States
you can view people's weather stations in various locations around the state and get an idea of local conditions. What's happening at the Phoenix Airport isn't anything like other parts of the state.

If I remember correctly, you are leaning toward New Mexico as a place to go when you finally really retire. If you look to Arizona, there are many much better places climate wise than the Phoenix area, aka LA East.

Thanks for the heads up PO'd..I know Phoenix is a firebox..

My goals is Las Cruces...a lot milder and temperate..even though it's in the deep SW..:)

Hey Buster,
How's it going with your freedom from tobacco challenge?
I believe there is more help via your Dr. to get you through the initial withdrawal phase, like Chantix or Zyban.
Hopefully you've a ritual substitution to do, like go for a short walk.
I'm interested to know, so keep me posted.

I'd be careful with that Chantix. Apparently some want it pulled from the market because it is giving some folks suicidal thoughts........

So far, so good and thanks for asking....Not wanting to make it a big deal or bring it to center of attention, so I haven't went on about it..:o

Keeping stress out of the picture right now is a big factor for success with me..however, I do find looking for my keys or fumbling around with silverware in the drawer and not grabbing a spoon or fork just right the first time, REALLY pisses me off.... (note to self: this weekend, remove two forks and a butter knife from kitchen ceiling and realign drawer)

I have bought one of those E-cigarettes and they do give off enough nicotine to help me through the big urges..So far no extra eating either to control weight during this time too..keeping lots of fruit and veggy munchies on hand..doing a lot of gum chewing too.:D

Way ta go man!
I hear ya on the frustration factor!

Just quitting smoking can give you those types of thoughts.... I suffered the homicidal thoughts when I quit!

22 months and counting!

Keep it up Buster..... Fight through the battles, the war will take care of itself!

May 10th, 2009 @ 4:45am was the last I smoked. It took three heart
attacks in one night to finally get over the "MENTAL" addiction. Previously,
I attempted to quit 5 different time while using; the patch, inhaler, gum,
hypnosis and cold turkey. I knew that I was destined for Lung Cancer or
(at minimum) an Oxygen Tank being carted around with me.

Well my friend, its what you don't expect, that should scare the crap out
of you ! Smoking shrinks the arteries and allows the smallest amount of
plaque to accumulate into a blockage. Strokes and Heart Attack's are
sneaky and won't (most of the time) give you advance notice of thier
arrival. I write this because your fight is hard. It's a worthy battle for a
worthy cause (your life). Keep on plugging away ! Use what ever resource
that will help you. But know this, even if we've never met, we do care ! :embarrest:

For whatever it's worth, I did the Chantix thing with no side effects other than food and beer tasted...tasteless. The beer didn't seem to have any kick to it either.

I got an e-mail today saying FEHB plans now pay for smoking cessation aids including varenicline.

hey buster

i too am quiting. started a "quit smoking study" through the local medical school college here. first two weeks i got to smoke normal. the third week they gave me the parch(21mg). was suppose to stop at that point but didnt. i did however go from smoking 30+ cigs aday to 30 cigs in a week. last friday 28 jan 2011 at 1000AM i smoked my last cig. so far its one week of no smoking and i can hear you loud and clear when you say that you dont want to bring attention to it. for me it just makes me think of smoking. the sooner i forget i smoked the sooner i dont smoke. also the frustration of the "little things" i can only say DEEP BREATHES.

i also can say that during this study it helps me remember that i am giving them a sample so they can test the effects of the patch and the effects of not smoking. kinda gives me someone to answer to besides my self and wife and kids good luck and we can do this.

i should tell you i have been smoking for 35 years and i havent even hit fifty yet.

Having quit at least 4 times and stayed off tobacco for 6-10 years each time, I'd like to throw in my $0.02 worth. I think it is important that just as you quit, that you take the attitude that "I am now a non-smoker! My struggle is not quiting, but rather not starting smoking again!"

I'm still holding on at 40C,30S,30I

When you step outside or walk pass a familiar break area and your hand touches the breast pocket, turn your palm down and do a salute, take a breath of fresh air and go back inside.Wearing shirts without pockets helps too.
Notice how you can smell a dirty ash tray or smoker from further and further away as time goes on. Don't tell current smokers how smoke bothers you more than before you had smoked. Just think that was you around your family and friends.
A lot of smokers do better at quiting when it's their idea.

21 Nov 2001 Bad tasting cigarett on a cold wet day helped.:D

Thank you all, for the support and encouragement..Again no relapses yet..having moments of weakness right now with stress from the job I'm at...Finding ways to cope with that, it is a challenge..but I haven't succumbed ..The E Cigarette helps some..but having a few stashed xanax helps too at night..

Big Red chewing gum will stimulate those new taste buds. Sugar free wintermint life savers or pepperment will help occupy you.:D

Nothing like a bout of PLEURISY to cure one from the smoking habit for good..

Been about 5 weeks now and I'm still feeling the pains...Cigarettes is the last thing I want...every breath was a pain ....Finally on the mend..
