Budnipper1's Account Talk

Re:Dr Faustus's Account Talk said:
I've been reading a lot about Ebb over on TSPStrategy egroup on Yahoo. Anyone know what Sarah's beef is with Ebb? She really has her knives out for him. Did he leave her at the altar in a past life?

It's not just Ebb, it's anybody and everybody who attempts to gain more attention or recognition that she gets. I've checked out her site fairly often and lately, if it wasn't for Ebb, she wouldn't have had anything else to talk about. The majority of the discussions on TSP Strategy have been about Ebb or Tom for the last two weeks, or maybe, longer. She knocks Tom's website at every opportunity. She was a member here long before I ever heard of TSPTalk. Last weekend, I finally posted a comment on her message board just to get her reaction. She jumped on me like a pit bull...ha! Don't know if I've ever ran across a more vindictive and overbearing woman anywhere. The few times I've seen her mentioned on this message board, the comments echoed what I just said. I'm posting this here on my account talk so if there's any "heat" from it, I'll be the one to take it. I know she checks out this website regularly, because she comments on things she reads here all the time. From now on, I don't intend to visit her site again. It just pisses me off every time I read her crap, anyway...:D

Not to me...all I ever saw was sharp claws and hair standing straight up on her back... and spit flying..!!!

I used to read their posts but they don't say or teach much at all. Kind of lame duck. She is constantly in the I Fund and nothing else. Their are only a few who trade as we do here. She acts like a control freak. Maybe I should not say that but that is what it seems. I don't go to the sight anymore. Never gain any knowledge from them at all. It seems as if all they do is talk about what TSPTALK and others are doing.

Gee

The account balance information is current as of close of business, Friday, October 05, 2007.
The Thrift Savings Plan will be closed on Monday, October 8th, in observance of Columbus Day.
Transactions that would have been processed Monday night (October 8th) will be
processed Tuesday night (October 9th), at Tuesday's closing share prices.

To be in the I-fund for Monday, October 8th, the IFT had to be done before noon, last Friday. Since transactions that would have normally been processed Monday night will not be processed until "Tuesday night, at Tuesday's closing share price", then moving to the S-fund for Tuesday is an impossibility. Normally, an IFT made anytime after noon on any given Friday would be processed the same as an IFT made before noon on Monday. I've yet to find any information on what Tom referred to about an IFT implemented between noon and 4PM last Friday.

As a test to the TSP system, I am doing an IFT today, (Columbus Day) before noon, going 100% G-fund.
Last Friday, I moved to G-60, F-20, I-20, and received confirmation from TSP at 11:30 PM, CST.
I don't expect to receive a confirmation for this until Tuesday night.
To be, or not to be; THAT is the question.

Side note: Hang in there, Show-me...I'm really gettin' off on those "unmoderated" discussions. :D

The IFT allocation you posted to your account this morning (see quote) can not happen COB today (10/08) because its a federal holiday. This IFT will post to COB tomarrow, 10/09.

IFT on Monday, 10/08 before noon (10:25 A.M., eastern)

That is the reason I did not post my IFT as "COB" as I normally state in all my previous moves, as explained in the included quote. :)

Just making sure you understand its a federal holiday. Your post implies otherwise because you state "IFT on Monday, 10/08" which is vague because there are no IFTs made today.

If you had just stated "100% G" I would not have responded to your account post. This is all that is needed when making a IFT move.

I completely understand that the Interfund Transfer I made at 10:25 AM today will not be effective until COB Tuesday, as the TSP website clearly states. However, the IFT which I made today was accepted for processing on tsp.gov. The effective date you calculate this into your tracker is your call. With all due respect, my IFT post in my no talk account was not "vague".(maybe confusing for you) Thanks for your input and your work with tracking.
This is my IFT made today on tsp.gov, posted in budnipper1's account and posted in the Autotracker.

All I can say is we disagree on the clarity of your IFT post. I see all different ways that members post a IFT. Just by not including "COB" does not make a IFT post any clearer. When I said your post was vague regarding the date that is how I see it. I do not understand why you even want to debate the issue. I wanted to clarify to all members that entering a date and/or time to your IFT post can cause misinterpretation. And all I was doing was trying to help you if you were not aware.

Several people have expressed opinions of general discontent about how the quality of this site has diminished since new changes have been "imposed", so here is mine.

I also have noticed a substantial degradation in what was previously a free forum, where we all could publicly express our views on about any topic, whether it be market related or otherwise. Opposing opinions either validated or invalidated the other views, but we all could make our own conclusions. This was not considered "bashing" or unnecessary "whining". It was acceptable, general discussion. Unless things got out of hand, moderators did not intervene.

Now, we can see a few "self-appointed sergeants-in-arms" who jump from thread to thread with no other apparent reason except to verbally reprimand members for voicing their opinion, if the stated opinion is contrary to their own. I don't need to name these individuals.(if the shoe fits..?)

Let's see if I get the same treatment. I don't like the way the recent changes were implemented and I do believe we have lost some of the most valuable assets of TSPTalk. Before, we posted our IFTs and could freely discuss the reasons why. We could quote what another member had said, and agree or disagree. We have apparently lost this right. Before, we could post our moves in a no chat thread, be openly tracked without censorship, and view the other members' IFTs for comparative analysis. We were wined, dined and encouraged to help support TSPTalk by subscribing to the paid services. By subscribing, we should have gained valuable knowledge and improved success in building our retirement nesteggs. What we were not told in advance, is that if we do choose to subscribe, we would lose most of the privileges that our non-paying members still enjoy. In the real world, this is called "bait-and-switch". I am totally disappointed with the outcome of these recent changes. I'm still currently considering my limited options. This is my personal opinion and is posted in Budnipper1's account talk thread.

Hey, I can appreciate your thoughts but from my perspective I haven't seen the changes you express. I guess I'm in my own little microcosm.

I think it's a great site and continue to enjoy it. It seems like most of the fuss relates to Ebb's Site (for which I am a yearly member). Since Dr F and Tom joined in as well - it is very understandable why they would not post the ITFs. I don't hesitate to post my stuff because I don't feel compelled to follow Ebb if I think my plan is better and subsequently I've been in G (when he lost) and refuse to make a significant loss (by his plan) if holding on seems more appropriate.

Bob Dylan says "The times are a changin, and if you can't change with em you'll sink like a stone" Ebb has undoubtedly bought change to this site and if we follow him blindly, regardly of how ridiculous his suggestions may seem - then all of us would have a 30% gain (yearly) in our TSP. I would say this change has brought the highest quality imaginable and I can't imagine anyone doing better.

Hey Budnipper1, I agree with your insight. Several of the newbies, who are just interested in the gain, and not the whys, seem to be satisfied with the changes. That's good for them. But steadygain is right (or was it Bob Dylan..."go with the changes or sink like a rock". I guess the discussion about why to make IFTs a certain way is over. Now we just do what Ebb says without discussion or figure it out ourselves.
Enough said, I am already in the dog house with the TSPtalk team and this will just be considered more "whinning".

Take care and good trading.

What we were not told in advance, is that if we do choose to subscribe, we would lose most of the privileges that our non-paying members still enjoy. In the real world, this is called "bait-and-switch".

Other than discussing specifics of paid services, what priviledges did you lose?

"Several of the newbies, who are just interested in the gain, and not the whys, seem to be satisfied with the changes. That's good for them."

Chruss - I couldn't find your rank in the list of 145. The newest member has been getting 20% or better for the past 5 years. I would say all of us are interested in GAINING - that's the bottom line, but there is a lot of good information presently available and I certainly feel the newbies want to know the nuts and bolts as much as anyone else. If whinning like a baby makes you superior then you are far better than me.
