I've used only PC's for over 30 years. I got a Mac Pro laptop about a month ago and am really impressed with it's performance.

The first computer that I purchased was in 1976 while going to an advanced electronics course for the United States Navy. The Navy instructor told me I couldn’t use it because the married guys couldn’t afford one, so I was stuck using a slide rule.

The first personal computer I came across was onboard the USS Enterprise in 1977. A sailor put it together and you had to load the program using a magnetic tape. It was pretty crude, but it actually worked pretty good.

My first IBM computer I purchased was back in 1984 by a friend from Georgia Tech. I think the hard drive was something like 10 or 30 Gigabytes and at the time that was really a lot… LOL :cool::cool:

The M. Star, a Japanese oil tanker, suffered ... something in the early-morning hours Wednesday as it passed through the Strait of Hormuz. Crew members heard a blast and saw a flash, windows were blasted out, ceiling panels in a dining room were shaken loose, and one crew member suffered minor injuries. And most significant, an enormous dent appeared on the tanker's starboard side, extending from the waterline more than halfway up the hull. But what caused it? the New York Times asks. Who knows?

The oldest computer I’ve ever seen was a Honeywell 316 computer and it was made back in 1970. I maintained it in a private sector job back in 1982-1985. It had a Drum storage device and I think it was only like 32 or 64 Kilobytes. To load the drum, you had to run thru Mylar Punch tapes that had holes in it… LOL… As you load it up, it would spill out on the floor, and then you had to roll it back up for the next time you needed to load the program… I went from working on F-14 Tomcats to working on an antique computer, but it was actually a reliable Honeywell Computer. :cool::cool:
 
Love these walks down memory lane.:) I took a Data Processing course in college in 1972 and we used the college's computers. One took up an entire end of the bldg. and used punch cards and a card reader. We programmed using the templates and then had to punch it all into cards. Then we waited our turn (usually 2-3 am) and dumped it all into the card readers. Then we had to figure out if it didn't work because of bad programming, bad typing, or if the computer just wasn't in the mood at that moment. 5 hour course which I made into 30-40 hours a week. I actually got a decent grade but Geez that was a lot of work. We have come a long way baby!

Opppps... I meant 10 or 30 Mega bytes, not Gigabytes!!! LOL

Sep 1st 2010... The S Fund was up 3.45 in one day!!! It might go back down tomorrow, but it was like watching this YouTube video of a F14 heading up in the sky... :cool: :cool:

TSP costs are close to a tipping point???? LOL.. Oh man that cracks me up please read this link for the truth about our TSP Board…

The TSP Board took our unlimited IFT’s because they said it would save the TSP operational expenses and benefit the participants by making it a lot cheaper to run… Yes, I’m indentified as one of the 500 evil fed frequent traders as per the TSP board… Yes, you can blame me for limited IFT’s!!! But, I’ve been with the TSP since it started back in the mid 1980’s… I really think the TSP board needs to be investigated for possible criminal activity!! LOL… The TSP board ruined many Federal TSP accounts when they took away our ability to move our money around using IFT’s… The Board claimed, trust us, we can lower our costs to the participants because those 500 frequent traders are costing the others major operational expenses… LOL… Their operational budget has sky rocketed out of control since that statement, so it was not true... So the IFT’s weren’t responsible, it was their incompetence… LOL

For FY 2010, they increased their operational budget by 14% !!!

For FY 2011, they will increase their operational budget by 4% !!!

The TSP board has increased their funding by 70% since FY 2007 !!!

Any Federal Employees have their budget increased by 70% since FY 2007??? Hmmmm LOL… I didn’t think so…

I spent many years working on those F-14’s for the United States Navy and it pretty much sums up how I feel with my TSP account as of Nov 4th 2010. I’m very thankful I’ve had a good 201O YTD. I also think it’s really great that we have >100 participants on this site that are beating the C fund YTD. That is no easy feat in itself!!!

The folks who put together this outstanding TSP site have been a lot of help to my account by allowing me to look at my account and keeping track of important data. I really appreciate the TSPTALK group as they provide us with a wealth of information. I get additional data from my Wall Street Journal account as I can download it to my Apple I-Pad. But the TSPTALK site allows me to get a really quick snapshot of Economic Calendar, Future Quotes and my personal Returns Analysis. The Returns Analysis section does the entire math for your account as to how well you’re doing MTD / YTD and per Quarter which is very useful. The TSP Board should take note of this website in that it provides more useful information than their expensive government site. Oh man, if they read that comment they might take away even more of our IFT’s as an excuse to fund another change to their tsp.gov website. At one time we could only do one per month and it was only on the first trading day of the month and that was it!!! LOL

I don’t agree with the Uncle Ben’s Fed QE2 plan as I think it will spark inflation down the road. It’s a quick fix and its good for the markets short-term, but it will come at a price long-term.
