Awhile ago I saw a show on the discovery channel or Science channel. Basically they have identified that we are not 'designed' to die. We age because our cells don't reproduce accurately, blah, blah, blah and a 'fix' is right around the corner at the current pace of research.

Anyway, the show basically said there are people alive today who will theoretically live forever. Due to accidental deaths the average lifespan will be about 2000 years but people won't die of old age/disease.

Think about the ramifications.....population explosion, overpopulation. Would we have to institute a lottery for people to have kids? Someone in your family has to die for you to get a child chit?

Finances....the problem with compounding is we spend the first 20 years trying to get to the point where we have enough cash making interests. You could now work for the first 100 years and have hundreds of millions. The entire finance model would have to be reworked.

Education/career....you could have many many professional careers in a lifespan. No more stopping education late in you career because the value isn't seen. Would we have to work forever?

Suicide.....I don't think anyone want's to live forever. What happens when people want to stop living. Do we expect them to stop taking the medicine and die in a world of 25-30 year olds of old age or do we accept suicide as the 'check out' method. See population explosion above...you check out so your great great great great great grandkid is authorized a child?

Religion....not touching that one.

Just posting for lively discussion. I don't think I'm deep enough to understand all of the ramifications and potential things we currently accept as 'norm' that would have to change.

Me, I don't want to live to 2000......300-400 years would be good sufficient :)

Just hang a sign on my door:

"Gone to meet my maker"

He'll take me when he wants me!:D

That means with the exception of a chosen few we all would have to be Spayed or Neutered!
Will they pay my CSRS retirement for another 400 years, or make me go back to work, Heaven Forbid?

Not if your boyz Boehner and Cantor get into office.

They'll make fixed pensions illegal, disband CSRS along with Sociail Security, and take all of your 30 yr contributions into CSRS and give you a one time check to invest into an IRA.

Then they'll make you go back work....in China for 30 cents/hr for your corporate masters back in America.:cheesy:
Where have they said that they want to make fixed pensions illegal? CSRS was replaced by FERS years ago. Social Security is a failing ponzi scheme and it would be better if I could take the money I put into SS and put it into a ROTH style retirement investment, IMHO.

I don't see how the government could make me go back to work, unless the Democrats succeed in changing our political system to Communism.:D

They already made the movie on that one back in 1976. It was called "Logan's Run".

In that world, everyone had anything they could ever want- except one thing--- a long life.

To make room- Everyone had to die... at age 30.

Starring Michael York, as Logan. It won one Academy Award, and was nominated for 2 more.

I would gladly give up my annuity for a lump sum to invest on my own. My wife has a defined contribution plan with the state of Florida - once she retires the FRS will no longer have any obligations to her for retirement. The money is hers to do what she wants with it. She is under no obligation until 70 to take any money out of the plan which will help keep taxes limited. Right now she is making close to $26K per point on a S&P index fund - how great is that as well as DCAing the state contributions. Yes, we prefer to do it ourselves.

That's a movie I'd like to see remade with modern special effects. Too bad it will probably never happen, because it doesn't support the Hollywood elite marxist agenda.

A classic. Add in the distopian vision of Soylent Green (ConAgra's future - I mean, do we really know how much of our food is genetically modified?) and you have future I will be happy to miss. Long life is only a blessing if you live in Eden and have room to grow. Anyone read Robert A. Heinlein's Methuselah's Children or Time Enough for Love following the exploits of Lazarus Long. I vividly remember the images produced over the description of the suicide button that Lazarus tried to use in the beginning of the book. He was tired of living.

The problem is that is income you can't control - which means taxes are due probably at higher and higher levels. With a defined contribution plan you take the money your way when you want it. That way you control your tax bracket to blend with other income.

I'll take my Anniuty myself and the Wifie gets 55% of mine when I exit stage RIGHT!:laugh::laugh::rolleyes:

I believe that any time you can control your AGI you are better off. As an investor, if the Bush program is extended, then the old rules still apply. That means the 10% AGI bracket has a 0% capital gains tax. Live on savings and don't take income to satisfy taxes - they are minimal. It just requires planning to beat the smucks like Obama.

But that's the problem....Those who can't take care of themselves think the government will do it for them..... That is why you get people saying it is "good thing" the government controls our money....

God, and with Medicaid and Social Security to use as examples...... :mad:Another well thought idea thoroughly screwed up by the government.

I believe that 49% of our society pay no taxes and some even collect free money with the earned income tax credit program. Those in the 15% AGI tax bracket will only pay 5% capital gains taxes - that's my target when my wife decides to retire. People think that they are lucky if they can replace their working income when retired - but they will continue to pay those taxes like they do now until they die. I don't want Sam in my pocket. Savings are not regarded as income - only the interest that is paid. If you can limit income you can save big.

Remember the scene of Washington DC covered in vines and jungle? Then Peter Ustinov living in the capitol building with all those cats! :)

I have to admit - Good Title

First - we are totally designed to LIVE and live life to the fullest possible potiential. The more you discover the intregicate details of how the wide variety of organs interact with one another on a molecular level - the more you see how true this is.

The body itself is nothing more than a container to something that was never meant to die and in fact it's impossible to kill.

*******************************************

But let's go to the ways of extending life for several hundred years.

1. Genetics: we have found numerous genes that offer a far longer lifespan.

2. Embryonic Stem Cells - Cloning (parts) - for periodic and regular replacements.

*************************************************

Easy short cuts:
Put a small to medium sized gold fish in a large glass of water. Place it under a tree until either a squirrel or bird - drop their waste in it. (What is waste to them is 'priceless' to us). Add 1 pinch of salt - have 5 people unrelated to each other spit in the glass. Stir and drink.

That will add at least 25 to 30 years of excellent health and life.

Hard Way:
Eat and live healthy lifestyles
Maintain a constant state of 'hunger' - and stay thin
Exercise regularly (cardiovascular)
Maintain active and productive lives
Develop and strengthen social bonds - be emphathetic and giving
Frequently stimulate the brain in a wide and varried manner
Lose the stress and find 'freedom'
Let LOVE dominate everything you do and all you think

Quality of life. Not quantity. What if we figure out how to live to 150 but we still feel like we've been run through a screen door at 70?

Clue To Cancer Cells' Eternal Life

Sept 2010
CANCER RESEARCH UK scientists have uncovered a new strategy that could be used by cancer cells to side step the body’s normal safety checks and become immortal – a key step for a cancer cell – according to a study published in Nature today. [more]

First the difference between guys and girls.

Cancer cells are 'immortal' because they become exactly like the parasites that suck the life out of society. If we use the USA as the example - we see the more that programs expand to strengthen and reinforce the parasites - the greater and stronger they become. Soon you would have say 46% of the population paying 'no taxes' - as they gain benefits that far outweigh their needs.

So - YES - Cancer cells are 'immortal' because the 'underlying system fails to recognize the threat they represent' to all the key structures and foundations vital to a healthy and vibrant LIFE (or society).

Cancer cells lose their 'immortality' when they underlying structures have nothing more to supply.

This my friend is what we need to modify and correct - and the underlying 'system' that keeps them in place and reinforces them are what need to be 'addressed' and 'corrected'. This will not happen by changing the hats - of someone we view as 'king'.

Now for the girls:

Quality of life - is everything - and the last thing they are looking for is some 'quick fix'.

But maybe we can learn from each other ;):) and find a path somewhere in the middle that makes it good for everyone.

That is the best and most sense you've made in a very LONG time...The analogy was spot on!!!

This however I beg to differ:

This will not happen by changing the hats - of someone we view as 'king'.

If not this way as the leading beginning, then WHAT do you perscribe?

..In order to identified the problem as you always seem to do, then you must of formulated a solution, which you always seem not to do..Otherwise always pointing out problems with NO soulutions usualy gets yourself ignored for lack of credibility..

Thanks man - and we're cool and we always have been

It's only in asking questions like this 'we can all come on the same page and realize deep down we all take the same stand'.

So this is my first time to really 'come clean'

This however I beg to differ:

I immensely 'respect' this kind of question.

First let's ignore the dirtball who filled the White House/Administration with rham. :worried:

Second - let's stop pretending that some Rep. Super Conservative - and VP Tea Party Speaker - or any kind of diprham Dem. is going to make any difference ---

WHEN: You've got a dumbass WAR taking place - and the next Clown has to make it 'his war'. It's just a bunch of crap that goes on and on.

WHEN: The rhameating LAWS and Policies solidly in place are so deeply entrenched with loopholes and reinforced rham that the 'Parasites' not only become more popular - but they get more and more.

WHEN: Corporate Interests - obviously dominate every aspect of how society functions and their profits have taken far greater priority than the 'people' of the Nation.

..In order to identified the problem as you always seem to do, then you must of formulated a solution, which you always seem not to do..Otherwise always pointing out problems with NO soulutions usualy gets yourself ignored for lack of credibility..

I would say - we NEED to change the Rules and Laws the underlying 'system' keeps in place.

1. They don't pay 'taxes' - they don't vote
2. Reduce the parasites to 'substaining life' - and not EXCESS.
3. Greatly restrict not only their 'income' but how they spend it. Do random drug tests, no tobacco, alcohol, junk food, and most certainly no satelite TV, and a million other perks they come to expect.

Make them WORK - for anything other than the bare 'neccesities' then they have something to feel proud about and they can spend money for things they enjoy.

I would start with the Parasites.

Equal to that we NEED to make the public aware of what is really happening - and the 'System' is (and has been) far more in place to keep things 'covered up'.

So I would go after the underlying 'Specifics' that are ruining our country and the more we bring these 'Specifics' to light - -is the only way we can KNOW these diprhams are going into office on 'our behalf'.

NOT - to keep the same rham going on and on and the gov't getting bigger and bigger.

Got a meeting bro -- need to run - 5 min late already
